Last night I was looking at these images on my tablet but now that I've turned up the brightness I can see what you mean. But what makes me think it isn't is that there have been older screenshots with a sort of generic unshaded ambient light which looks a little bit like GI in the distance.

blog_post_65_taleworldswebsite_03.jpg

This doesn't look like GI at all. It's almost as flat as Quake 1. If not worse!

That's my point. The screenshots they showed us of GI are super underwhelming and it's hard to tell if there is actually any bounce lighting or just a uniform ambient light. Look:

It definitely doesn't help that there are dark unrelfective materials and narrow streets everywhere.

What puzzles me is the lack of consistency, some older footages and screenshots showed pretty interesting graphics, while newer ones look washed and straight from WB. There's even inconsistent 3D modelling through scenes.

DEVS LOOK AT THIS. YEAH?

I was just playing Warband today, On PS4. Yes Console player here. (MAKES ME SAD TO THINK THAT THE GAME PROBABLY WILL ONLY COME OUT FOR PC FORST THEN ANOTHER LONG TIME DOWN THE ROAD COME TO CONSOLE? HERE IS ME PRAYING FOR SOME MIRACLE AND THEY COME OUT RELATIVELY CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER) any ways off that topic. I was playing today and I was moving Troops between two castles I was lord over and I just thought... why can’t I just like send a messager to tell troops to move between castles towns etc. and there should be a screen where you can control that. Also close to those lines Ot would be hella incredible if you could like own a caravan or multiple to have them transfer goods you produce in one town to another for better profits. That seems realistic to me. Man I just have sooooo many ideas that I believe could be implemented in an awesome way in this game if they aren’t already.

I as well am super anxious and can’t wait for a release date and I’ve only had the game for like 2 weeks. But If they are working to make the game the best it can be hey I can wait a few more months! Let’s go make it GOTY. But hopefully it’s here soon. Thanks devs

As excited and curious as you may be, please don't resort to spamming. It won't get you anything other than some nice green text below your name.

Hi, please try using spoilers for that kind of stuff, it is no better then actually spamming.

______________

Thanks for the blog, I believe low quality textures are being replaced. Can't wait to see more of it. And a question, are we going to see some real presentation? I appreciate the weekly blogs, don't get me wrong. I am just, like everybody else hungry for some actual gameplay. Maybe it is time for another siege eh?
My question is, in which big event are you going to be presenting in the near future?

How nice would be if you could travel on map on your horse, just like in KCD, but alongside your soldiers?
I think, it's less likely for Bannerlord than it was for Warband.

See Ruthven's Explorer! Mod

If battlefields will be hand made, why TW would bother to include a terrain generation algoritm to fill the gaps in between those?

It's a combination of a lack of art direction and the fact that they keep changing the postprocessing and lighting arrangements as time goes on. Some screenshots are super dark and contrasted with almost black shadows, while others are awash with ambient light.

It is definitely something the fanboys are ignoring, even though it has been discussed a number of times. We can thank the mods for suppressing info on this type of stuff: the situation at TW is highly unorganized and even chaotic.

Why do people think we are getting blogs on topics such as "The Conversation Camera Angle Feature!"?

If things don't change, BL will be resigned to development hell or be delayed for a huge amount of time before being released as a bug-ridden mess.

But don't let the mods catch you talking like that...they'll silence you!

People say stuff like that all the time without getting warned/muted. More or less daily. The only thing that results in punishment is breaking the rules, such as spamming.

Imanis stop playing the martyr, we do not delete people's posts criticizing the game. This will be your only warning to stop spreading misinformation/false claims.

Back on topic folks.

TW so far very chill and very liberal forum for an official game forum. Forums do not need to defend free speech it is a community formed by ADMINS. It can have any rules under legal circumstances, and limiting free speech is not in any way unethical too; any person mature enough realizes it.

Is it possible for a dev to shed some light on the varying quality of screenshots? The lastest ones are very nice, but some older ones do look like a lower graphic setting. Is that the case?
Puzzles me too.
Although I doubt that they would answer that question.

This gif accurately represents me every time I read a blog without a release date in it.
I say this every god dam time. Warband was the buggiest game in the world and I still replay that **** every couple of months..

I don't care what bugs I come across or anything I just want to play this game.

hello my first question ever.

is it possible to set a trap for caravans and actual see them move the goods with guards allowing us to ambush them unnoticed.
if not.  will it be possible to go that far with mod tools?

Can you guys tell us or show how far we can go with the mod tools?

kind regards

I totally agree...it is not possible that there is such an abysmal difference if we start a quick comparison between the textures of the materials. Metal and marble is quite achieved ...on the other hand wood...

I leave you a gkx's hopeful commentary (Link); that on the other hand shows that it is true that they work on the go.

Hi all, I'm one of the engine programmers.

We did have "SSDO" (Screen Space Directional Occlusion) before but we weren't happy with quality/performance ratio so we have implemented a better method but it is not merged in to development environment yet, so screenshot has no AO. Also game will provide you a lots of anti-aliasing options like FXAA, SMAA variants and TAA variants. If you have a beefy machine you can also increase render resolution to %200 for example. Engine also supports "Tessellation" and/or "Parallax Occlusion Mapping" for details.

Also all screenshots are work in progress, we are constantly working on improving graphical quality and performance.

Edit: Also I should mention that we are open to criticism, even though we don't answer all the things here, we are reading on your comments and taking notes.

A practical tut, and he has more - saved for rainy days.  :fruity:
Looking at the last image, it's also a recommended read for the devs.
