Let's say we set out for a campaing in winter, will it be any different or harder than a spring or summer campaing?

The map is changed, not just by the activity of the player and NPCs but also by the passage of time. Changing seasons affect the weather and transform the landscape sending snow creeping south during winter. Significant gameplay effects, of the changing conditions, are felt in the effectiveness of different troop types. Cavalry and ranged units in particular will have a harder time in rain or snow. One major change from Warband is how time progresses; the yearly cycle has been shortened to twelve weeks, which adds more importance to the changing seasons and ageing of characters.

OK, I hope there is really a game in development, and not just Terco_Viejo tricks us with Photoshop magic week by week.

Have you noticed that looters have a double quiver? I hope they never throw stones at us anymore... :iamamoron:

Yup, looters don't look so feeble anymore. Which is great because it looks like hunting them down will produce some good loot to sell, unlike in warband where it was just stones and maybe a couple falchions if you were lucky.

All I want is for there to be a system of titles and a bunch of stuff related to royal houses such as sucession and inheritance, plotting assassinations, coups and such with your council and vassals...Guess I've been playing Crusader Kings too much  Also about encounters, wouldn't it be more interesting that if you stopped or were stopped by robbers, for them to be close to you when the battle starts? It makes sense for a lord or big party to send someone to speak to you but looters should meet you with their whole group, think an ambush situation? After all they're robbing you.Was anything like this ever discussed?

This is a raid! Now walk back half mile, and prepare for the surprise attack!

Yes, it is strange.

Question for the programmers!

What kind of battle sizes are we going to be looking at within the game? I know that natively Warband only supported 150, and that while its able to mod the game to above 500, the engine really, really doesn't like it, and seems to be prone to slow done or straight up crashing beyond a certain point, regardless of the system running it.

A question for Bahar Şevket - will Bannerlord include campaign map ambushes and how will these ambushes change the battle setup and advantage?

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord relies even more on CPU usage than Warband. Hundreds of characters, more advanced animations, an Inverse Kinematics system, individual AI, formation AI, combat calculations, (which do not change in respect to distance or visibility,) and many other requirements really increase the burden on the CPU. In order to accommodate this, our optimisation efforts are more heavily focused on the CPU. We generally try to use Data Oriented Design, which enables us to achieve high amounts of parallelism and core usage. Currently, 60-70% of the frame is fully parallel, which means it can, and will, use all of the cores of current and next gen CPUs for the foreseeable future, (the old engine generally used to use 1, or at most 2 cores.) This means that as new, higher core count CPUs begin to emerge, Bannerlord will scale well with the new hardware and players will be able to test bigger and denser battles. Currently our aim for battle sizes on current generation high end gaming CPUs is at 800 characters, at 60FPS.

+1

Another question for Bahar Şevket:
Top 5 in the ranking of your favorite playable mechanics for the SP Campaign?

In my opinion ambushes could work well if done like in total war.
We've seen in Bannerlord's siege videos that there is a pre-battle deployment phase. The same could be done for ambushes were the ambusher can set up troops anywhere along the marching path of the enemy. The defender cannot move their troops and must start the battle from a marching column:

Hello I am new at that blog.

As I saw in the last blog it must be somewhere a COMMENTS section where we can ask questions to developpers,
where is that section ?
Or is already here ???

That kind of deployment for ambush operations would be amazing. If true, I imagine something like this:

Your photoshops are pleasing and much appreciated as I do not have the time to do anything myself.

Edit- that is exactly what I would think ambushes would look like. I just wonder how the mechanic would work for the campaign map ie. how does one set it up and trigger it (In total war, parties tend to follow predetermined paths therefore it's easy to walk into an ambush).

I have to admit I am just a little bit disappointed with the blog and I don't accept the excuse that it is just after the holidays.  I would expect that the subject for each blog would be worked out well in advance and not just something they decide the day before the blog is due.

As excited and curious as you may be, please don't resort to spamming. It won't get you anything other than some nice green text below your name.

I see that others are interested aswell so here is a question for the next blog:

What kind of different field battle types are in the game, and what are the differences?

I think we have already seen these:
large battle (army vs army)
small quarrel (small groups fighting - like player vs looters)
caravan attack (carts in the scene)
ambushes are also confirmed (?)

Thanks

Better yet, have mercenaries use a mix of unmarked/uncolored faction gear and generic gear so they look like the irregulars (and possibly deserters) that they are.

Yes! And give bandits and looters/other brigand types worn or tattered equipment. Perhaps not "professionals" like sea raiders or steppe bandits, although I'm down for whatever. I just don't want to see bandit types running around in equipment that sees regular (knowledgeable/resource availability) care. As others have said before, maybe a few variants in groups with the top dogs having the best gear available to them through looting.
