My dad discovered this German band called Thornbridge recently. Power metal with inspiration drawn from various places, some even Blind Guardian-esque. I ended up listening to their album as well, and, well, I'm currently listening to it for the tenth time or so? Turns out it's pretty good. The full album is also on youtube:
There's also a new half-album by Stratovarius coming out in September that I didn't know about, and that makes my day. The new song sounds interesting.
New Seventh Wonder album has been released after 8 years. Rejoice!
First spin - feels a bit better than A Great Escape to me. It doesn't have any awful voice acting like Mercy Falls, which is a positive, but I'm not sure yet how I rank the songs themselves. More spins required. 2nd half of the album is much better, starting from track 6.
Honestly, if you know Seventh Wonder you know what to expect.
Holy Grove came out with their second album and it's the most killer bit of doom I've heard in a very long time. Their first album impressed me but this one went far beyond what I expected. It starts off pretty much where their first album leaves off, but takes it to a pretty sweet place by the end of the album. Simply great, hope I get to see them live at some point.
When I first heard of Lovebites, an all female Japanese power metal band getting a lot of praise, I was sure this was just some J-pop band akin to Babymetal. But they're actually pretty good. Color me surprised.
It's been a few months, but for those interested, the final of the three Blind Guardian songs that didn't make it into Nightfall in Middle-Earth in time has been published in the re-release.
