But, it is Thursday my dudes and the show must go on... Instead, in this week’s blog, we will talk about how we approach game design here at TaleWorlds, giving you a brief insight into the general process of taking an idea and turning it into a game feature.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/82

So soldiers carry banners in their hands now. Neat.

Not sure why everyone is being excited about this.

This was old news and has been confirmed since the releast of the Sergeant mode videos release, which was in 2017

In the sergeant mode videos bannermen couldn't fight and hold banners at the same time. When engaged in combat, their banners were relegated to an unrealistic back carry position.

I wonder how the bannermen's combat skills will be affected when holding the banner. Hopefully they can still fight properly while holding one. And hopefully they'll actually keep holding the banner and not switch to two handed weapons sporadically.

Ok I would understand if the engine added a year or two on but with this many people it doesn't take that long to create a game and an engine.

No? How long did your game and engine take to make then?

I'm using common sense, something you don't have. If there are 50-100 people working on a game engine and a game, you should at least have a stable beta out by now.

So no personal experience then. "Common sense" can only extrapolate when given relevant data. Otherwise it's just "guessing." I've worked in the game industry and the development of this game has been far from slow. Did they announce the game too early? Absolutely. Has their communication at times been lacking? No doubt. But their rate of progression is actually quite commendable.

So they lack communication and somehow you know their rate of progression is commendable?

Lol why are you all even arguing [insults snipped], I'm sorry admins I'm being rude but these people should be wiped off the forum, they dont add a thing to the discussion, just cry off

i.e. before they starting doing devblogs and ever since then we've had a somewhat steady stream of information.

The person you are replyingg to has worked in the Gaming Industry and has seen, experience and knows firsthand what happens during game developement and why Bannerlord is working at a remarkable pace considering the time frame and amount of work they are putting on themselves for Bannerlord, which we can already see with videos, screenshots, and Developer Blogs.

What about you? What do you have other than your "common sense"? Why should we listen to you? If you cannot answer these questions then its safe to say that you are simply guessing and making up lies to piss us off.

" Has their communication at times been lacking?"
" Has their communication been lacking?"
A) These are not the same sentence.
B) Yes, based on what they have shown it's exceptionally commendable. They have an engine which can handle large numbers of NPCs at once, handling relatively in depth AI, an excellent physics model, all while looking pretty good and running smoothly. Go drop down 200 guys in ArmA and tell me how well it runs.
C) Doom (2016) Took 9 years to develop. Rage took 7 years to develop. Team Fortress 2 took 9 years. There are plenty of great games that had lengthy development cycles. But those are AAA examples, and mostly weren't also forced to create an extremely specialized engine. You can say it's unusual to take quite this long. But don't start talking in absolutes like it's just a fact.
D) By what accounts do they not have stable build? I never got that impression from the Gamescom videos. That simply means they're not adopting the "publish now, fix later" mindset that is a PLAGUE on the game industry.
E) A lot of games suffer from crunch time. I remember from way back when, when they had a photo from their company cookout. That tells me that Taleworlds is a company that values its employees. And if a company has slower development because it values its employees, that's a good thing. Period.

What's your point exactly? Fact is the game isn't ready yet but you're demanding they release it now. You really think TW is sitting on their asses just laughing at us not being able to play the game? And from what I'm getting, you seem to think TW is incompetent for not having the delivered the game already. So what's your point? What's your solution? I'm legitimately confused.

I don't think they were arguing against Bannerlord.

I don't think there is one person on this forum who does not wish they had the game in their hands already. The difference between them and me is I know that bleating about it on every blog is not constructive so I keep those comments to myself.

How about instead of doing Q&As and this **** no one cares about anymore release the damn game you started making in 2011. Like honestly if you don't have a stable game yet that is pathetic.

Do you feel better now?

The guy isn't wrong, I'm no expert but i know that it shouldn't take 8 years to make a game when you have a team of 50-100 people working on it every day.

It's a big disappointment to most fans that there isnt a playable version yet.
If they're building an engine from scratch for said game, yes it does.
I'm not disappointed. I definitely would be if they rushed the game out the gates. Thankfully TW seems to know what they're doing.

Ok I would understand if the engine added a year or two on but with this many people it doesn't take that long to create a game and an engine.

Hmm, perhaps they should have hired you then. I'm no expert in game development either, but I do know certain games that many still consider among the best games ever took 10 or more years to develop. And TW said at some point they had to start over a few things because they first tried with another engine and then noticed that engine didn't suit what they want from the game. I don't think it's that long, if there has been a mistake made, it's that TW announced the game to early in development. 7 years really isn't that long for an entire engine and game, and we don't know how close they are to release, and how much is left to be done. Play another game if you are that impatient, and forget about this game, put the game in your steam wish list and you'll get a message when it is going to get a release date. I'm not a fanboy or something and sorry to put it this way, but comments like these kind of sound like a whining kid that doesn't get what he/she wants before he/she even asked for it. I'm as eager to play the game as anyone on these fora, *****ing about releasdates and 'the game shouldn't take so long etc' is not going to change how soon it comes out. It only annoys people.

These sorts of complaints of no release date are useless and baseless on more accounts than one. A waste of everyone's time, negatively affecting the general mood, while never achieving their goal since they're asking for the impossible having convinced themselves it is indeed possible, and overall only achieving general bickering. There is perhaps a strong case to be made that there should be official consequences for such messages, a little spring cleaning as one might call it. Would make the whole place a lot more cheery and bright, without the malcontents ruining the mood.

It is regretful that this had to be my first message, but I've been lurking for a while now and these messages kept displeasing me.

But why?
Is it so outrageous to ask on a public forum about release date? Why so serious?
You miss the point. What is displeasing is how entitled, snide and malicious these messages seem to be worded. It's not saying so that is the matter, only that those who say so appear to it in a way that make them look like arses. They've been allowed to be arses for long enough and the gist of their message was understood ages ago. I get mentally weary of constantly having to ignore them, I'm getting stongly irked, and I'm sure there are many more who are also irked.

I'd use word childish, but yeah, I don't think I miss that point.

Seriously? You want to ban people because they irritate you? Oh man, I'd ban 90% of internet than.

Yea, I did not hit with free speach card at all. What I asked is for a reason to ban guys like that. And the reason given is "they irk me". This seems kinda harsh to me.
