SP Sci-Fi Starship Troopers MOD.+ .(OK. -Release+!)

Users who are viewing this thread

It's supposed to mean you never do honest work on your mods. Some of us code our own code and spend hours making models and textures, while people like you come in and say "This is easy.", bash together a bunch of kits, OSPs, and **** and pretend like they're a modder. You may do some, but for the most part, your mods are simply an archive of OSPs, free models from online, Fallout 3 mods, mod kits and the like. It's just. . . lazy and doesn't deserve respect. Just like Ryan.

Also, necro means to bring a dead thread back to life, not whatever you assumed it meant. And it was meant for Phalanx. He's necro'd this thread twice after it has been silent for a year both times.

No but seriously. If Im not wrong Specialist does create some of his codes, I dont see the problem in using OSP codes, and the usage of OSP weapons and such I have no problem with, especially if he has permission.

There is absolutely no problem with using OSPs. It's just when your work is a mere inconsequential fraction of what is building up your mod then the problem comes to existance.

I talked with Specialist about the models and they seem to be good quality and accurate to the source. So I see no problem with using them if the creator agrees.

Why are you talking about Necroing now? Many months after I posted that? Such a mod just has a lot of potential and I'd hate to let it go to waste.

IIRC he also has somebody doing animations and buildings for him, but I understand your point.

Honest work? Okay... so I suppose that OSP stuff isn't honest, is it? And it's not easy... I've spent a good 5-6 hours converting models and textures so they will work in MB, not to mention that I have made almost 150 lod's for WW3 (NOT using OpenBRF mind you) which took another long period of time...
Lazy? No. Someone who doesn't really know how to model, but needs models, yes. I'm trying to learn how to model, but I don't have the skills to make half of the OSP stuff I use as of yet....
Doesn't deserve respect...well... I can't really argue too much with that, but I want people to respect the work, not me. The fact that I have put a good 48-72 hours of work into just converting the "Cheap OSP stuff" proves that I am not lazy and take my mods seriously and don't just
bash together a bunch of kits, OSPs, and **** and pretend like they're a modder

I do create some of them. Like the fact that I'm working on making a shotgun, with only a little help from the genius modders here, attempting to create new, and non-laggy particle systems, and (whether this counts or not) modifying OSP codes to make them partially mine....

Well... only weapons (and not all of them) are making up the OSP stuff. Maybe a few armors (from Shredorz), but otherwise, everything is either the work of the team or of friends of mine that have contributed bits and pieces.

Yep, we have animation makers, and buildings from people. Plus some new modelers/texturers doing more work....

@Phalanx
Because you necro'd it today. . .
Almost a year after you were the last one to post in this thread. . .
Which happened because you necro'd it from the year before when I was the last one to post. . .

Anyway, the problems are that I view it as lazy and my personal feelings towards making a mod where the majority of the work belongs to other people, even with permission is a one of negativity.

Warning - while you were typing 2 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Ugh, and the long-ass response. . .

I know that sometimes conversions take time and effort, but that's not the point.
It takes time to do labor, I agree. But labor doesn't necessarily mean that you should deserve credit. Hell, American copyright law dictates there needs to be creativity, not just mere labor, for something to be protected under copyright. And if you would note, I merely said you are like those kids, not that you are one. A reptile is like a bird, but it isn't a bird, dig?

And yes, you're learning, that's good. Kudos, kid. I just have a personal issue with people of that sort I have stated earlier. Anyhow, if you would like to continue the conversation, it will be a lonely one, as I'm not going to remark about this again on this thread. You can PM me or something and I can explain what I mean, but it shouldn't bother you enough to warrant that as all the information is here, for you to sift through.

information on the copyright bit I said said:
Works that are not sufficiently original, or which constitute facts, a method or process cannot enjoy copy protection. U.S. Courts do not recognize the "sweat of the brow" doctrine, which originally allowed protection for those who labored to collect and organize facts. To combat this, business which assemble databases of information have relied on contract law where copyright law offers no protection. For a work to be original, it must possess a "modicum of creativity", which is a "low threshold" although some creativity must exist.
I'm going to assume you know how to bend this to your case, such as conversions are like collecting facts.

I fail to see your problem if the original creatures are fine with it and are credited.

About the necroing. You might want to check the date. I'm not the only one reading the Mods Suggestions.

This is on a different topic. . . .

Me, two years ago.

I'm starting to get confused... Hahahaha

Any way we could *not* argue anymore? I see your point SNM, and I'll attempt to change that (bigtime, since I'm sure other people feel the same way you do), but now we're going back to a necro that was 2-3 years ago? o_O
