These aren't all of the errors I get when I try to extract the game file, but I exited before I could get the others. It's either a bad download or Winrar ****ing up yet again, but I just thought I'd let it be known in case this is something that needs looking into.

If the archive is corrupt then I'll upload it again otherwise:
Tried it, the archive is OK.

you ran out of disk space?  If not try to download again, otherwise I'm not sure what the problem is, alternatively just use 7zip from 7zip.org or jzip from jzip.com.

Sorry I don't do computer technical support, tried it once and hated it

This was one of my faves for the original M&B...glad to see it ported over to Warband!  UP THE WALLACE!

Names ive found while reading the Konungs skuggsjá.
After the - I have added the english translated word or what i understand to be correct from reading the context.

Possible unit types in ascending rank.

Kotkarl                              - cotter/cottier
Bónda(one) Bændr(many) - freeman/peasant/farmer
Húskarlar (many)              - General title that all the above(in rank, below in list) have, but you can be Huskarl without being any of the above
Gestir                                - Spies, Assassins, Enforcers (Translated as Gester)
Two none hird unnamed huskarl varieties here perhaps have one as Konungsmenn.
kertilsveinr                        - Lowest grade of hird (is not mentioned but should be valid around this time, might be a squire-like rank)
Hirðmenn                          - Hirdmen, middle grade of hird (Might be translated to something like Men-At-Arms but is probably more)
skutilsveinr                        - Highest grade of Hird (is not mentioned but should be valid around this time, might be the same as riddarar)
Riddarar (many)                - Knight (might be the same as skutilsveinr)

Lendirmenn (many)          - Landedmen (Later barons, not sure if they should be unit or just npc title)
Jarl(One) Jarlar(many)      - Earl (not sure if they should be a unit or just npc title)

Others that might be of use.

Hirzlumadr(one) Hirzlumenn (many) - Keeper    (Not used in that context but could be used for prisonguard)
Gæzlu(one)      Gæzlumenn (many)  - Guardian  (not used in that context but could be used for door-guard)

Some other classes of people.

Leikmenn    (many)          - Laymen
Kaupmenn    (many)        - Merchants
Konungsmenn (many)      - King's Men (Probably everyone from huskarl to Riddarar and Jarl is this)
Konungr    (one)              - King

Other titles mentioned.

Landstjórnarmaðr          - Governor
Höfðingi                          - Chief

The king's trusted men.(not listed in rank but as found)

Ljóðbyskupar (many)        - Bishups (also found just Byskupar)
Erkibyskupar(many)          - Archbishups
Jarl(One) Jarlar(many)      - Earl
Lendirmenn (many)          - Landedmen
Hirðmenn (Many)              - Hirdmen
Riddarar (Many)              - Knights

Archery

Lásbogar(also bogi)    - crossbow
Handbogar(also bogi)  - translated to longbow but could mean bow in general

It doesnt mention þræll(thrall, slave) at all and the Norwegian law code from 1274 doesnt mention slaves at all so slavery might have been abolished around this time.

Keep in mind all of this is from reading the english translation then finding the interesting word in the Gammelnorsk source.

My troop trees are based on equipment rather than social rank (for the most part).

This is a great list but I'm having difficulty adopting it to my setup.

There are 6 tiers in ranged and foot trees, 5 tiers in the mounted troops tree.  Village recruits have less sophisticated weapons, spears, axes, bows, while town recruits have more technologically advanced weapons (swords, crossbows).

I could use names of the following:

for villages
- serf, man who is not free, and is tied to the land, lives in a village or equivalent thereof (tier 1 village)
- serf upgrades to peasant militiaman (tier 2 village), the tree splits off here.  He can become either an archer or a footman
- peasant archer (huntsman), hmm, someone that lives in a village and hunts animals? from this point on the peasant archer just gains profficiency and better equipment until he becomes a sergeant.  Sergeants are commoners who would be veteran fighters and would be given command over smaller units
- footman, trained soldier albeit poorly equipped (Sveinn would fit?) - the footman can promote to spearman or in the case of Scandinavians perhaps someone equipped with a great axe etc?
- and from this point on just like archers they gain profficiency and better equipment till they reach the sergeant status

for towns
- a lowest of the low town dweller, free man, but poor (tier 1 town)
- similarly to the village tree this becomes a militiaman who can then pursue either the ranged or infantry path.  Ranged for towns is crossbows, for infantry troops equipped with a short one handed weapon (axe, sword etc) and a shield, a defensive warrior so to say.  Eventually both of these become sergeants again.

for castles
this is where you recruit nobles, mounted troops.
- starts with a poor noble who can afford a horse and not much beyond that (tier1)
- horse and better armour (tier2)
- better horse, better armour and weapons (tier3)
- still better armour and weapons (tier4)
- knight, the F16 of medieval ages

So if you could help me work your names to my idea of a troop tree that'd be great

I have just downloaded patch 1.105 and mod version 0.8 and I still have the same problem: My banner is not displayed on "custom barded warhorse" and other similar horses - they are all black.

Please help me! This is the one of the greatest things in this mod - historical heraldy!!

Your banner won't show on the horse like that.  player_surcoat.dds and covered_warhorse_player.dds need to be customized by you.  There are plenty of textures you can use, rnd_surcoat_xx.dds and rnd_horse_xx.dds can be copied over them.  And if you have some graphics skills you can make your own.  The game has no mechanism to apply textures to a horse.

is it for 1.112 to or not??
"The mod is currently compatible with Warband 1.105 single player, and it is to be considered in alpha stage."

But there must be new version  for 1.113.othr do you have any ideas about it?

It works with 1.113, just keep in mind the module system used to compile it is still 1.105.  So any bugs related to the module system that were fixed by Taleworlds between 1.105 and 1.113 are still here for the most part.

Liverpool is a city? What about towns like Birmingham? In the 13th century, afaik Liverpool was rather unimportant. Nice idea, though!

English and Scandinavian cities need work.  I have the information I need for England, just not enough time to replace/rename what's there now, soon (tm).

People keep asking what is wrong with there game in this thread. If I am correct, the mod isn't even a beta yet so it's full of bugs and problems, so basically, it  won't work properly, yet. Just be patient.

the debug mode..... its kinda interesting
id like to try it out with native,i already conquered the map and
to try what would happen if...........
soooo,if you can tell me (if possible) how to put the debug mode and all of its functions in native warband
which files to move
pls i need i,share this secret,im not going to use it for a mod,im gonna cheat the hell out of calradia
sooooo othr can you teel me

oh and the mod is great, but there are a lot of bugs and historical issues but no big problem

Not sure if this is the right place (since I'm new and just in my first run through WB or M&B ever), but what has always buggered me about the 1257AD mod were these borderline-unhistorical metal shield frames which can IIRC only be seen in the Bayeux tapestry, while the lion's share of shields (Maciejowsky bible etc., existing shields of central Germany...) just has a rawhide cover.

I have a bit of an allergy to medieval comic clichés by now, that's why I wanted to throw it in here. Oh, and hi everyone.

In Norway, you must place Oslo adjacent to the water. As it was located in "Gamlebyen"(Old Town) on the Ekeberg Hills. Ref:

http://www.visitnorway.com/us/Product/?pid=45491

And Nidaros(current name; Trondheim) is located at the south shore of a fjord also, allthough the fjord isn't that visible if you zoom far out on the e.g google maps..
Nidaros also contains a very beautiful medieval church(The Nidaros dome) if you want to put it in. Ref:

http://www.google.com/images?hl=no&rls=com.microsoft:*&rlz=1I7ADSA_en&q=Nidaros+Domen&lr=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=PX_RS-v8DJ2iOKjuhOoN&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBcQsAQwAA

And if you check a map, you also see you that need to put Bergen more northern in comparison to Oslo.
If you want to know anything about Norway, I can do research for you when I'm bored and at work ;D

I installed this mod in new version. At the first glance I can see map is historically incorrect at least what about Bohemia Kingdom concerns. In the half of 13th century there was an  indipendent Bohemia Kingdom which consisted from Bohemia and Moravia. Bohemia Kingdom although quite closely bound with Holy Roman Empire was always independent. There were towns as Praha, Olomouc, castles Strakonice, Brno, Godonin, Kromeriz and several others.  About the year 1257 in Bohemia Kingdom ruled king Premysl Otakar II who was one of famous European kings of those times. You completely erase any Slovak towns although Slovakia were occupied by Hungarians at that time. They were town as Bratislava, Nitra, Trnava Trencin. You completely erase even Moravia too and replaced it with Hungarian Kingdom. I would highly recommend to have a look at map of mod Europe 1200 for M&B where everything is quite historically alright including spacing of Bohemian towns, castles, Slovakian towns as a part of Hungarian Kingdom and so on.

Should probably get a discussion on this with aule the creator and skandinav.

This type of progression might be good gamewise but i don't think it reflects the time.
I imagine most Bændr and above would be proficient in bows.
I don't think there would be such equipment splits that you couldn't go from a footman to a knight.
Indeed as ive understood it you could go far as a freeman if you had the skill for it.
I don't think there was much differences between town and village people of the same rank but as you say the equipment might be better in the towns.
Not sure how id distinguish between the village and town people of the same rank.
Maybe try to find the words for village and town and prop that infront like village kotkarl and town kotkarl.
Also for the castle units there's too much progression for the titles at hand.
Maybe find a word for advanced and prop that infront but i don't think that reflects the time aswell.

For Villages.
Kotkarlar      - (cottier) Probably better equipped than your regular serf. I Suggest Axes as main weapon.
Bændr          - (freeman) Better equipped than kotkarl and also more skilled. Still suggest mostly Axes. Though maybe spears aswell.
Huskarlar    - Footman, maybe introduce swords here. Perhaps promote to Konungsmenn then Gestir. For spear perhaps Spjót infront of the regular title. Longhandled scythes and long-shafted
broadaxes is mentioned as good shipfighting weapons as langorfsljár(ljár i think for just scythe) and langskeptar skeggexar(bearded axes). Though i think that the viking age Atgeir
could be used, which is usually translated to bill or glaive.

veiðamenn -  for huntsmen perhaps, though i don't know if that's grammatically correct(ask aule his thoughts perhaps) hunting and hunted and hunt always uses the word veiða.
archers could use the term bogimenn or handbogimenn and crossbowmen could use Lásbogimenn, though this is also just guesses from the uses of bogi in the text.

For towns.
Leikmenn      - realy just means laymen but i dont know what else to put here if you don't want to use kotkarl and bændr.
I think you should just couple that over to the village footman tree at huskarl but if you really need to have two separate ones i suggest using Kaupstað(literally tradetown) or just
Stað infront of the town ones.(ill try to find a good word for village though)

For Castles.
Kertilsveinr  - Lowest grade of hird
Hirðmenn      - Hirdmen, middle grade of hird
Skutilsveinr  - Highest grade of Hird
Riddarar        - Knight (might be the same as skutilsveinr though but if you need the titles i guess we can split them)
Lendirmenn  - Landedmen (would later become barons)

This is a pretty good map of norway in ca. 1265.
Ive suggested it as a source before, but if you want to choose which towns you think should be there, just go right ahead.
