BATTLE OF BRŪNANBURH
A.D. 927
A.D. 937
A decade after the kings and princes of Britain had to recognize Æthelstan as their overlord
Twelve years have passed since Æthelstan was crowned as king of the West-Saxons, but that was not enough, for his ambition was to rule over the whole of Britain. Early in his reign he gave his own sister in marriage to Sihtric One-Eye, King of York, as a token of friendship and alliance, but when Sihtric died the following year and his kinsman King Gofraid of Dublin succeeded to the throne, Æthelstan seized the whole of Northumbria, putting an end to decades of Norse rule. At Earmont, Æthelstan forced Constantine, King of the Scots, and Owen, King of the Cumbrians, to swear fealty to him, and exacted tribute from the Welsh princes. No longer merely the King of Wessex, he now styles himself King of the Anglo-Saxons and Brytenwealda, High Ruler of the whole island.
Gofraid is dead. His son Amlaíb rules over Dublin and the Norse-Gaels now, but he aspires to reclaim York and Northumbria, which are not content under Saxon rule. However, great is the might of Æthelstan: just three years ago, the old Constantine dared defy him and his lands were ravaged by the English. Only a great alliance may succeed in turning the tide of English expansion, and the kings of the Norse-Gaels, the Scots and the Cumbrians stand united against their common foe, forgetting their past enmity. Now is the time.
But Æthelstan will no doubt rise to the challenge. He will not let his enemies undo his work and that of his father Eadweard, who protected the land by uniting the English and subduing the Norse invaders, keeping their predations in check.
The invaders, commanded by Amlaíb Ua hÍmair rí Gall (Olaf the descendant of Ivar, King of the Norse-Gaels), Constantín mac Áeda rí Alban (Constantine son of Aedh, King of Alba) and Uen vap Damngual vrenhin Strat Clut (Owen son of Dyfnwal, King of Strathclyde), have gathered many Norse supporters in Northumbria, the land that Amlaíb hopes to rule, and are raiding Mercia. Æþelstān Angelseaxna cyning (Æthelstan, King of the Anglo-Saxons) and his brother Ēadmund æþeling (Prince Eadmund) lead the English fyrd to the north. The armies meet near Brūnanburh, in the Wirral, a peninsula divided between Mercian and Norse settlers.

TIME AND PLACE
The event will be held on the 28th of April, at 20:00 CEST (click to see the day and hour for your own region). Please note that this day and hour may change if another time suits most players better.
All participants will be required to be present in the TeamSpeak channel to hear and follow the instructions of their captains. A microphone is not needed.
TeamSpeak server details:
Both sides are split onto two teamspeak servers, with the following details:
Engla Fyrd: 212.227.249.185:9988
Airṡlúag: 176.9.103.48
Server: HRAFNABJÓÐR
Server password: will be announced in TeamSpeak shortly before the event starts
BATTLE MODE
It will be several rounds of battle on the new Brūnanburh map, including resets at the discretion of the organizers. The losing side will be pushed back to the new Dingesmere map, where they may be able to make a stand and turn the tables, in which case there would be one last, decisive engagement (consisting of several rounds) on the Brūnanburh map. However, having just rallied from the brink of defeat, the side that lost the first encounter on this map now can't afford to lose a single round, or they'll be routed again, with overall victory in the event going to their enemies. Both sides will be led by several leaders of similar standing; this includes three kings in the Airṡlúag. It is up to the leaders of each side to decide the exact hierarchy of their army and how autonomous their hosts will be.
SIGN-UP
Signing up is not necessary but is certainly encouraged for smoother organisation. Regular Víkingr clans are invited to sign up as clans, but asked to name and number those of their members who will come. Non-Víkingr clans must sign up individually. Non-affiliated players signing up must state which name they'll be using during the event and, if they have a preference, which side they wish to fight for, but they must join one of the public hosts: the Myrcena Fyrd for the English and the Llu Cumri or the Ceithern Cellaig for the invading alliance. Furthermore, members of those public hosts must use the default faction banner, with the exception of the members of the Ceithern Cellaig, who must use the banner depicted above their roster (third one on the third page of the banner selection screen). If any of these non-affiliated players would like to join a particular clan in battle, they are advised to contact the leader of that clan. They are also expected to play as Gārberend (Engle) or Ceithernach (Goídil). The organisers of the event will retain the privilege to allocate clans and non-affiliated players to either host for balancing purposes.
The class slots will be assigned by the leaders of each side. For the purposes of this event, the Wīsa (Engle) and Toísech (Goídil) class limit will be increased.
