So I've noticed something
Samurai infantry are good
Samurai Cavalry are good
Samurai archers are fantastic
Samurai gunners are good
Ashigaru Infantry are respectable, and most importantly cheap. Trained units are a real source of strength for an army.
Ashigaru Gunners are worthwhile.
Ashigaru archers are about as useful as nipples on a breast plate. Bad bows, laughable power draw, doesn't pierce common armour.
Monks are great.
I'd be interested in weighing the cost effectiveness of samurai gunners compared to Ashigaru gunners, but you don't know when a good, wholesome ashigaru gunner will be replaced with a vile deadweight with a toy bow.
