Need More Info Intel processors are underpreforming

Users who are viewing this thread

I take that back. I tried cav archers 500v500, thinking they would be more spaced out, which they were. No ice rink mosh pits. But performance was even worse, 20fps.
Interesting, thanks for testing and replying, any input is most welcome.

cant run siege's past 200 army count
my specs:
Geforce RTX 2060
intel Core(tm) i7-9750H cpu @2.60ghz
16gb Ram
Thank you for reporting. However can you give me more details? What fps are you getting what settings are you playing on? I prefer you'd launch a quick 500v500 cavalry custom battle, that we all the data is normalized.

Any updates on this? Dont want this thread to die lol
So far no developer response, but I'm pretty sure they're working hard on improving preformance.

Not sure about you guys, my game runs noticeably better with the Beta. Only my units now look for for whatever reason lol

Hi, sorry for your inconvenience. Bannerlord is more of a CPU hungry game because of its big battles and our estimates shows us that it will continue to demand more CPU than GPU. Currently, parallel with all other stuff, we are optimizing the performance of those battles. Beta branch specially had some fixes for the Audio performance. Also, currently we are working on the performance impact of ranged units, alongside with better parallelism and spike fixes. Siege is also being worked on. Hoping to send these improvements batch by batch in the near future. Hope you have fun!

Thanks for the response! As I figured (especially since it's a EA title) ofc you're working on this. I just wanted to bring it to your attention that I find intel CPU's to be preforming worse than AMD, even tho for example my own intel CPU specs aren't that bad. In any case, thanks for the heads up.

I'm super happy to hear there's still room for optimization. I'm fine if I can run battle size 200 battles smoothly. It already is quite smooth considering my less-than-minimum-req i7-7500U.

500vs500 cavalry. 45-55FPS. With 2 random FPS drops. After only 300 were on battlefield FPS went to 70, and after only 100 were left, FPS went to 100+.
Ryzen 3700X, Radeon 5700XT, 32GB RAM(3600MHz), M2 1TB. 2560x1080 (WideScreen) "Bordlerless Fullscreen" with everything on max. I mean even audio channels.
CPU usage 85%, GPU usage 75% (Nice optimization patches. Earlier it was 30% CPU and 100% GPU)
Ryzen good +1

Try to set your Frames Limiter setting as low as possible. With no limits your CPUs are working in stressed turboboost mode and this causes trottling to prevent their damage.
My i5 3570k works pretty well even with 800 units on battlefield even with cavalry and sieges. Game engine is fantastic, it just needs some tuning.

Hey Murat. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Awesome to hear that you are looking into it.

Very nice results, congrats bro. Guess I should have gone with Ryzen instead  is that on the latest beta 1.1.0?

Yes. I previous patches i had less CPU usage and more GPU usage, but it would be maybe scene binded. I did those custom battle few times and on time ive got the deadcam in the middle of battlefield and yes, my FPS dropped to 15, but other times only to 35(a lot for GPU, it's not as strong as best NVIDIA'S, but it is quite decent GPU - i hope there is room for improvment in game optimalisation, if not, its not bad either, could turn down some settings. But that 8 cores 3700X Ryzen is more than enough even for that). I mean i was surrounded by 500 mens or so, so a lot to render in good details 'cous of distance.... its never the case in game for me as i mainly play horse archer and yea, 500v500 for me only on sieges, but there its hard to make guesses, 'cous of bugs I always had(like AI bugs ? when FPS dropped suddenly to 1 or broken AI siege, when AI try to go up on ladders on HORSES  I just stopped playing kingdome stuff for a moment)

Hey there, have you tried running the game on a ssd? My thread is more in the specific range for large battles (500v500) which performs horribly for alot of people with good specs. And to me it seems like you have a different problem.

.

I have tried running it on an ssd, overall it seems smoother but still do sometimes get lag spikes.

Also, if I try running a battle with 170 vs. 170 I get lag down to 20-30 FPS with my listed specs, so I think in that sense I do experience the same problem as you (though this is different than what I outlined above)

Just to pitch in; i have a RTX 2080, 32GB ram and a i7-9700k; even on the latest beta still on larger battles my FPS drops dramatically to 40ish.

Very frustrating as I believe my setup should be able to run it smoothly - even at the best settings.

I am noticing my CPU usage is through the roof though! All 8 cores at 100%!!

I ran some more tests. Overall - higher end Intel CPU still are underperforming, though I'd love to see similar test run on some powerful Ryzen.

Rig:
CPU - i7- 9700k - stock (3600 - 4600Mhz)
GPU - Palit Jetstream RTX 2070 Super
RAM - 16gb 3600 Mhz G.Skill TridentZ now upgraded to 32gb 3600 Mhz CL 18 TridentZ
MoBo - Gigabyte z390 Gaming
Cooler - Silentium NAVIS 360 watercooling
SSD/HDD - SSD ADATA 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro
Playing at ultrawide 1080p - 2560x1080p on a 144 Mhz IPS LG34gl750B

Test scenario - 500vs500, Vlandia vs Vlandia, all melee cavalry, battlefield plains 6. I chose that one as this is most resource hungry setup I feel and also quite repetitive in terms of tactics used by the AI.

Ultra high settings, dynamic & static shadows, unlimited ragdolls and corpses. Since BETA 1.1.0. - sound setting also to very high.
Temps are normal, maximum was 72 C on CPU and 85 on GPU.The average fps shown
RAM upgrade helped with the stuttering in custom battles and added a couple FPS. MSI Afterburner shows 100% CPU usage, 60-65 GPU. Ram usage goes as high as 9.9 GB RAM. Average fps is a bit higher then actual. Game is of course very much playable, but there is definitely some room for improvement. I am reading happy users with lower end CPUs that the performance is indeed improved for them, which is great.
I still have my old setup (i5 4690k @4400 Mhz, 16gb 2133 CL 16 RAM, MSI 1070) and the game runs quite a bit better with beta 1.1.0.
Need to run some tests on that as well, hopefull during the weekend.

@Murat Türe is there any way we could help? Run any specific tests? Let us know.

I recommend anyone struggling with performance in large battles and a fairly decent cpu to try capping their frame rate at 60 and changing to a 60hz resolution.
Improved avg fps in big battles and reduced cpu usage a lot for me.

None of these setting really seem to effect anything for me.

It's not just intel. I get crap performance on ryzen 3800x OC'd to 4.5 GHz Octa Core. Settled on 200 vs 200 battles to be able to run things at 60 fps consistently. My GPU Usage is below 70% (RTX 2060).
