The cup need to come back to Canada ASAP.
It is shameful that a Canadian team had not won it for decades.

Staph stealing our players Amerika! Plz

Surely there a Canadian team has won the Cup recently......

Holy ****! Last time Canadian team won was 1993! What the **** Canada?

Well, there's 23 US and 7 Canadian team it's rather logical that most Canadian NHL-level players play in US teams.

At Least Canada gets a eight team when the Hurricanes relocate to Quebec as the Nordiques.

Thing is, that requires investment and unlike the Leafs who will sell out home games regardless of how terrible they are, the best move, both in terms of short- and long-term profit for the management, might be just that - a move. The amount required to rebuild the roster will far outstrip whatever returns they will get from remaining fans for a long while.

If you want to know why Canadian teams don't win the Stanley Cup, it's exactly this - that hockey is such an institution that fans will fill seats and buy merchandise consistently, at least for most Canadian teams, even when they're doing terribly. As such there is no financial motivation from the perspective of the ownership to bother spending too much on the roster when it doesn't really affect the bottom line significantly.

I believe you're onto something here, Hawk.  I've heard it said about teams in other sports as well.  Why bother trying to win when we make just as much money losing.  LA Clippers had that rap for years.  Hurricanes don't have that luxury, plus they have 5 high quality defensemen under the age of 24.  About 5 quality forwards and the canes will be competitive.

They have officially signed Sebastian Aho and another Finnish forward so good times may be on the way.

Aleksi Saarela is the other, Canes traded Eric Staal to Rangers for him and draft pick(s?). A great deal.

On the Canadian teams not being contenders, Edmonton especially seems to be on the hunt for the next Gretzky so they forget to build a working team. All that individual skill and nothing really to show for it. And Canadiens seem to do well when they have Price healthy standing on his head in the crease otherwise they collapse.

Not to mention "Les Habitants" have an American captain.  Must be a joke.  They fuss when they have a coach that can't speak French.

Edit:  Plus the Canes have a good chance at resigning Eric Staal at a reduced price once his current contract expires which should be next month.
