Wild honey can be found, and bog iron, but the real prize has always been fur. For centuries, brave traders ventured there to buy the pelts of fox, rabbit and ermine from the tribes of the woods. As the empire expanded eastward, that trickle of traders became a flood. Great towns sprung up on the rivers. Fortune-seekers came from the coast, from the steppes, and most of all from the Nordlands. Tribal elders made alliances with the newcomers, sealed by wedding vows, and with their share of the trading profits hired mercenaries to subdue other tribes. Sturgia became a collection of principalities, then a kingdom, the great powerhouse of the north.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/39

Disciplined infantry will be more likely to stay in formation, and will leave a space for a player in their ranks so you don't get crowded too closely by your allies.

Hey, this sounds new. Formation strength will now change based on the unit's level? So a block of basic spearmen will break faster than a block of veteran spearmen, making them useful for initial cavalry charges but useless in drawn-own melees?

I'd love to hear more about this.

Raganvad, the current Sturgian prince

Current? Please tell me that AI lords can win kingships.

Well in the Novgorod Republic people had a right to appoint city figures and even a prince if necassary.

The Finnic tribes meanwhile are represented by the Sons of the Forest, a semi- nomadic clan that practices swidden slash-and-burn agriculture in the depths of the woods.

Ah **** now I'm torn between Sons of the Forest and Wolfskins.

I honestly hope we can help minor factions rise to the status of major factions. I suspect it's more in the lines of getting special troops from them if you've got good relations, but we'll see.

Oh, it's hard to read with a translator. I spent about two hours reading 6 pages ... And it's not a fact that I understood everything correctly

Guys, the developers of TW, thanks for Ancient Russia!

the Nordlands are off of the map (for the present, anyway)

This blog totally ruined my anticipation for bannerlord, but it is what it is. I'll wait for that nordland DLC then.  I'll officially play Battanians. Thanks to Callum for the blog and finally getting to know Sturgians, I know ALOT of people including me been waiting for this for ages. I'll go roll a cigarette and cry in the corner now.
578, accept my sincere condolences

Yaga is another russian person who comments alot and uses machine translation to speak english to us. Language barrier is not a problem if Yaga can do it.

@Yaga is missing. Because of that we suddently got a weird discussion on MP on a thread about a faction blog.

We need to go back to discuss about important stuff like trees!

Without the presence of Yaga, reading through this forum feels wrong. I am very curious to see Yaga's takeaway from this.
Guys, thanks!!!

Quite right! In the Novgorod Republic, the people's assembly (Veche) could choose and appoint a ruler (Prince). Veche tried to lead the rich city-merchants. But in Veliky Novgorod for very long remained real, people's democracy (not as it is now in the world).
Here is a little Vika about the veche in Russia:

Dear developers! I have some questions for you.

Tell me, please, when you worked on costumes for this faction, then where did you get the information? I learned from you that there will be subfractions, because it's hard for me to comment on the screenshots - because I do not know exactly who is on them.
Russian costume of that time (9-11 century) is very difficult to find, but there are detailed scientific descriptions and reconstructions. I can try to show you something from a Russian costume (if you need it and it's interesting), but it will take some time.

Another question on the screenshot with the soldiers. I see snow fog or dust ... What is it really? Look, the first warrior is seen clearly, and the rest are in a snow haze.

And yet, answer, when the soldiers are walking on the grass, their legs are hidden in the grass - so it was on the video and on other screenshots.
So why do not your feet sink in the snow at all? About the footprints in the snow do not ask ...

with the town veche or council ensuring that merchants had a major role in state policy.

Ohh city council, nice! Hope to see more depth in city management other than talking with one lord

What if you could become a member of city council.

I would lovw if you could become a.member of thw city council or somth BECAUSE M&B has always been about war and nothing wrong about that but it doesnt give you any other way to playplay..I guess yes you can become a merchant but it wouldnt be as interesting as being the aadminister of a faction and if you're doing a good job getting promoted and decide more serious decisions like peace and war or accepting and removing a lord from your faction? Can you guyst imagine (after some hard work and dedication to your faction..) being the right hand of the king? And that doesnt mean that you can participate in battles of course every administer can have some kind of an army and some armor but not really as great stats as the lords..plus you can try to kick a member of the council that doesnt like your ideology with deception or bride or anything..I got a ton of ideas andan I hope I get support on this but I will stop for now do youyou guys think that this should be added in the game?

And why do we need a similar Bannerlord? We have Warband.

Multiplayer is doomed with the old combat system.

You cant be more wrong im sorrynot bit as 578 said go play overwatch bannerlord will bebe 100 times better if it sticked to the good ol combat and not some sh**** @** moves that disarm you that would suck and it will end up just being frustrating its good that you stated your opinion just like yaga but yours is a bit worse

Nice! I thought that they'd be something along those lines and I hoped for Nords appearing as minor faction as well (I still hope that, as per Warband's 'lore', Nords will also appear as minor faction/mercenaries for Imperials).

For next week's questions; I would personally like to hear about the mercenary system for both soldiers the player can recruit and for mercenary work the player can perform.

I also have an interest in how the AI companions interact with the player character. How can you influence them and how can they influence you?

Thanks for an interesting blog! Keep up the good work!

If you do not mind, I'll tell you a little about the trees
There is such a beautiful tree - Alder.
The trees in the screenshot (in the village) are a bit like Alder ... But the point is that Alder grows on the swampy banks of rivers!

It is necessary. You're just afraid of two things: a long development and the fact that you can not adapt and begin to lose to more capable players.
Im afraid you're missing our points.. anyways tell me how long have you been waiting for this game?

My feedback: i did not like blur effect on soldiers, maybe a blizzard was intended but just remove it if it is too much time consuming to do a blizzard.

I like to hear about minor factions, adding a cool depth!

So norse cavalry = vlandian
Norse infantry = sturgian
Norse pirates (vikings) = sturgian subfaction

Sturgian cavalry will be light or even horse archer (would be interesting a faction without heavy cavalry but still horse archers)
Which weapons will use thosr finns? Firearrows?

Also if sturgia has two subfactions with HUGE difference with msin faction, ehat about Empire? Empire will have 3 factions with their subfactions but would be boring if all the same!

Is it possible that a subfaction becomes a major faction in Bannerlord?
Can the player give a Lord from a minor faction a fief or adopt the culture of a minor faction at game start or when starting a kingdom?
