Well, I have spent an hour or so adjusting the bicorne model to fit on the head and not to clip where the hat, hair and head meet. It's done to my satisfaction npw, although I may make it slightly smaller on the overall, However I still am getting this with the alpha channels:

Can anyone offer any help with what to do there? It's somewhat Irritating.
 
The chimney is a white plume...
The white dot is the cockade, you can't make it out that well from that angle.

The problem is evident if you look at the sideburns.
 
Have you copied one of native materials that uses alpha channels?

If not, try that. A direct copy of one of the native materials (that uses alpha), and just rename the stuff except the shader.
