1347

During a siege at the Crimean peninsula, the besieging army is suddenly greatly decimated by an unknown disease. The deaths are countless and local merchants from Genova flee by sea to Sicily.

1348

Trough Sicily the new disease is quickly spreading to Genova, Venice and Marseille. The outbreak of the plague is so fast and devastating, that it gains the name „The Black Death“. Within a year, large areas of Southern Europe, but also France and England have fallen victim to the plague and in some places more than half of the inhabitants have died from it.

1349

The plague has reached Germany. Just like in the rest of Europe, nobody seems to be safe from it, lords and peasants alike have fallen victim to the „Black Death“. Many are convinced the end of times is near, and so huge morbid processions of flagellants have formed, going from town to town, flagellating themselves in hope for forgiveness for their sins. Many follow the flagellants, as they have given up hope for salvation through the holy mother church. Others yet blame witches, jews and other heretics for trying to eradicate Christianity.

It didn’t take long, though, that the processions of flagellants are blamed for the spreading of the plague as well, as it was discovered that the plague seemed to follow their trail. Many towns closed their gates and didn’t allow them entry. The town of Münster saw huge flagellant processions when the pope himself declared the flagellants to be heretics. After a short uprising, the flagellants were expelled and moved elsewhere looking to find souls in dire need of saving.

After a week, the procession reached Hamm in Westfalia. Nowadays Hamm is a city of 180000 inhabitants, but back then it was little more than a small village. The local lord Adam von Hamm, though, knew already about the flagellant processions and the plague accompanying them. Hamm had been spared so far, and he intended to keep it that way. The gates of the town were closed and entrance to the flagellants denied. But instead of moving on, the flagellants put up camp in front of Hamm and performed their gruesome rituals in the fields outside the city wall.

„They won’t stay for long, in a few days they’ll be sure to move on“, Adam von Hamm thought to himself. And so he went to sleep, assuming he had saved his fief from the „Black Death“.

14th of December 1349

Three days later, Adam von Hamm had a rude awakening when he suddenly heard screams outside his window. When he arrived outside, the whole village seemed to have assembled already. Somebody had found the dead body of Rathyr the miller and two gruesome observations sent a chill down the spine of the villagers. First, Rathyr clearly died from the plague, as was obvious from various buboes covering his body. But that alone wouldn’t have been so shocking in times like these. On top of that, his body was covered with hair, his teeth had turned to fangs and his hands and feet were massive claws. This could only mean, that Rathyr was a Lycanthrope…

…a Werewolf!

Adam von Hamm ordered everybody into the tavern (as that was his favorite place, besides a proper castle) and soon a discussion ensued on how to proceed…

DAY 5: ALL VILLAGERS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE TAVERN

IMPORTANT:

Besides the standard rules (see below, with thanks to Ejnomad), this game features some special additions:

Room vote: Every day, you decide to spend the night in a room (as marked on the map). Crossed out rooms are unavailable because they are infested by the plague. You all start out the day in one of the rooms and can vote for which room you want to stay in.

Example: Room: 5 or Room: mill

Lurker vote: The player with the most lurker votes gets attached to the pillory (L on the map) and spends the night there. The abilities of the player are deactivated for the night - the player is effectively blocked. Spending too many December nights outside, though, can seriously impair a players health.

Example: Lurker: Adaham

Watch vote: The player with the most watch votes will stand guard that night. All his abilities will be disabled, but he can target one person to track their activities. He will know who that person targeted, but not the exact nature of their targeting. Cannot become the watch two nights in a row. (EDIT: FORGOT TO PUT THIS IMPORTANT FACT IN THERE)

Example: Watch: Adaham

All these three ideas have been freely adapted from Whoopin’s games (mainly Twilight II), so credit goes to him for coming up with that.

IMPORTANT 2:

  • As your role PM's stated hopefully clearly (maybe I forgot in some instances), your abilities do only work within the room you're in.
  • All abilities are activated by PMing me. Don't send any other player a PM saying "I kill U" or anything like that.
  • No editing of posts!
  • No PMing each other outside this thread about this game (unless you're dead)
  • If you're unsure how something works, PM me before you do something stupid.
  • No game-breakers!!! If your allegiance changes in one way or another, don't go around and say "I've been converted, but I rather don't" (I'm looking at you Phoney) and don't become fed up and claim you're a villain out of frustration (I'm looking at you Llandy). If your allegiance changes, play along, it's not like you'd have a choice in reality.
  • Length of days: All days take as long as the amount of players alive. Meaning that the first day will take 20 days. Nights have a strict 3 day time-limit. Extensions might be granted on the first day/night cycle because of Christmas n'stuff. After that we'll handle strict deadlines.
  • Please use the lovely lime green color together with the bolding of your votes, to make it more visible. That was a good idea by Aust.

Look here for the other, general rules:

General Gameplay and Etiquette:
  • You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind.  Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
  • There is no editing or removing of your posts. Please use the preview feature before you post.
  • There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings unless your role PM specifically allows it.
  • If you have a role with a Night action your choices are due to me by the posted deadline.  If I do not receive your choice via PM by the posted deadline you will forfeit your actions.
  • In order for all players to play at least one game day this game will start with a Day phase.  Communication outside the thread (if your role specifically allows it) is allowed until the game begins.
  • As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.

Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:
  • A simple majority of all living members must agree on one person for a Lynch to occur (simple majority = ½ # of living players +1, rounded down).
  • Votes should be bolded or they may not be counted (e.g. Vote:  Player).
  • Vote revocations should be bolded or they may not be counted (e.g. Unvote: Player or Unvote).  Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
  • You may Vote:  No Lynch - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the game to Night phase without a Lynch.
  • Votes/Unvotes that are bolded correctly and are unambiguous (with respect to player nicknames/abbreviations) will count.
  • If no one has reached a majority of votes at deadline, a No Lynch will occur.
  • Once you have reached a simple majority no further unvoting will change someone’s fate.
  • Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until I post a death scene; the lynched player may not post during twilight but all other living players may continue to post.
  • Once you are killed (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post except for a brief “Bah!”-type post.

Miscellaneous/Mechanics:
  • Votecounts will be posted once per page or once per day, whichever is less.
  • If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM the Mod privately.  Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
  • The Mod may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently. Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed.  These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
  • Please bold all requests to the Mod so that they don’t get missed.
  • Rules violations will be dealt with according to their severity, up to and including a Modkill.  Modkills may be accompanied by a change to day/night.
  • Any situation not explicitly covered above is subject to Mod discretion and will be handled as the Mod sees fit on a case-by-case basis.
  • If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.

The Golden Rule:

Please remember that this is a game and your main objective is to have fun!  Be considerate of each other, don’t get personal, and enjoy the game.

The roles:

Herbal woman/ Witch said:
You are the Herbal Woman (Witch). You can protect a target of your choice in the same house once a night from a Werewolf attack. The bane is strong, though, and can only be used every other night on the same target, otherwise it dies from an overdose. You start off with 2 banes, but you need to spend the night at your Grocery to harvest two more banes. You will not be able to do any protection when spending the night at the church, as this kind of witchcraft isn’t kindly looked upon by the holy mother church.

Inquisitor said:
You are the Inquisitor. Fighting against heresy, there's little that can stop you to get the info you need. You can figure out the role of somebody else by means of torture. You have a 50% chance of success., but if you are thorough, that increases to a 100 % chance of success at a 50 % risk of death.

Marx Augustin said:
You are Marx Augustin, the minstrel: Always jolly, always drunk. Since you woke up one morning - after another memorable night that left you memoryless - in a mass grave full of plague victims, nothing can scare you off anymore and you're resistent to the plague. You may secretly sleep in infected buildings (by PMing the host with your choice at nightfall), but only every other night. Wouldn't want to overdo it

You win when all evil is eradicated from the village.

Priest said:
You are the Priest. When spending the night in your church, you can get a one-time confession (role reveal) from another person spending the night in the church. Your piety is high enough to grant one of your sheep a one-time blessing (protection against supernatural attacks), even when you're not in your church.

Pure soul said:
You are the pure soul. You have a 50 % chance of evading an attack at night, 100 % when hiding in the church.

You win when all evil is eradicated from the village.

Jewish merchant said:
You are the jewish merchant. When checked at night, you will turn up red, even though you're innocent. When spending the night at your mansion, you can use your money reserves to buy the lynch vote of a person for the next day, thus effectively making your vote count twice the following day.

You win when all evil has been eradicated from the village.

The executioner said:
You are the executioner. You can fast-track a lynch once when a person has amassed at least 50 % of the votes necessary for a lynch. Other than that, you are an innocent winning when all bad guys have been eliminated.

Tavern keeper said:
You are the tavern keeper. When in your tavern, you can fill up one of your customers (people spending the night at the tavern) with booze to such an extend, that they will tell you everything you wantsto know, even their deepest secrets. Not only will you learn their affiliation, they’ll also be unable to move anywhere that night.

You win when all evil is eradicated from the village.

Romeo & Juliet said:
You are Romeo (Orj) & Juliet (Austupaio). Each night you can sleep at one of the others house when not anyway in the same house (decision made at nightfall). If the one hiding at the other is attacked, the attack fails. If the one hiding the other is attacked, both die. You can talk at night with each other when in the same house. When hiding in the stable, both of you will be able to hide in the hay from attack.

You may talk at night here: http://www.quicktopic.com/51/H/XRFGWGaryHEW

Please remember, that first you need to decide who sleeps where and who hides with the other (unless you are already in the same room to start with). Only then can you use the night chat to discuss the game.

Town guard said:
You are the town guard. Every night you can either kill a person you suspect, or defend yourself which turns you invulnerable for that night.

You also have a one-use knife that can be used at any time, works as a defense, or as an offense and must be either used or passed on within 24h (in game). When spending the night at the Guardhouse, you can get a new knife, but only if you have passed on or used the previous knife.

You win when all evil has been eradicated from the village.

Doctor said:
You are the doctor. You can cure one person in the same house at night from the plague. When spending the night at the doctor’s office, you can produce a tonic to cleanse an infected house during the next day, but you can only do so every other night. The chance for curing is reduced by 50 % when the treatment of the patient happens at the Stable, because of the terrible sanitary conditions.

You win when all evil is eradicated from the village.

Pigeon breeder said:
You are the Pigeon breeder. You can give one of your prized pigeons to a person of your choice (during daytime / once every day) so that you can communicate at any time. Other than that, you are a standard innocent and win when all evil is eradicated.

The Mercenary said:
You are the Mercenary. A mercenary in your mind, rather than by your deeds, you’re willing to pledge allegiance to a person of your choice, copying their abilites. You must choose 3 people that might peek your interest and submit your choice to the host before the first night, as your indecisiveness will otherwise lead to a loss of any special abilities, thus turning you into a regular villager. The host will randomly select one of those three people to copy the role for the Mercenary.

Garrett said:
You are Garrett, the Thief (Snoopy-91). Instead of knicking items off people, you've specialized in stealing the keys to houses, thus making them unaccessible, at least for one day until the villagers manage to crack that lock again. Every day you may steal the keys of one room, essentially making it unavailable for that day/night cycle.

At night you may talk with the other members of Team Red here: http://www.quicktopic.com/51/H/s3XZmfMJEnEVJ

You win when Team Red has a majority.

Adaham said:
Hi guys,

you are Team Red (a.k.a. the bad guys). Your discussion thread can be found here: http://www.quicktopic.com/51/H/s3XZmfMJEnEVJ

Your roles are:

Hans said:
You are Hans (Moose!), Stump (Whoopin) and Thiess (Shatari) the Werewolves. Amongst the three of you, you can decide each night one person to kill (spending the night in one of the rooms with one of you wolves) and one person to block (dito). Thiess (Shatari) has additional protection from being scanned at night and will not turn up red when checked. The amount of activities of your group is NOT depending on how many of you are alive. If only one of you is left, you can still block and kill at night.

You win when Team Red has a majority.

Doctor Faustus & Mephistopheles said:
You are Doctor Faustus (Leprechaun) & Mephistopheles (Regendur). Doctor Faustus is immune to nightkills, investigations, protections, serums and what not. He can only be killed by a lynch.

Mephistopheles is acting as his assistant Wagner. The house in which he sleeps at night will be infested the following morning, rendering it useless. Also, Mephistopheles can infect a person of your choice with the plague (if untreated, will die at nightfall the day after tomorrow = infected night 1, will die at nightfall night 3). When Mephistopheles dies, Faustus loses his special abilities - after all it's Mephistopheles who grants Faustus his powers. He can continue to infect rooms, though. Mephistopheles and Faustus' powers do not work in the church!

You win when Team Red has a majority

If you have questions, complaints, wishes or whatever, feel free to ask. If you like it, you may also tell me

While I split you up into two groups, you are essentially still the same team and communicate together in the same night discussion thread.

Konrad Schmidt said:
You are Konrad Schmidt, head of the Crypto-flagellants. After the movement of the flagellants had gained a huge following in a short time, the church became suspicious of it and banned it completely. So the flagellants went into the underground and became even more radical in opposing the official teachings of the holy mother church. Your message is strong, and so you recruit every night a new member of your movement (amongst those that spend the night with you). Whoever is recruited by you, will give up everything they've been before and become a loyal follower of you. They can only be released by your death, which hopefully won't happen any time soon.

On top of that, the flagellant processions during the plague have been rumored to advance the spread of this terrible illness. You are very well aware of this, but you also know that the epidemic has increased the interest in your following. Therefore the house in which you sleep at night will be infested the following morning, rendering it useless. Also, you can infect a person of your choice with the plague (if untreated, will die at nightfall the day after tomorrow = infected night 1, will die at nightfall night 3).

You win when you and your followers outnumber the innocents and are the strongest villain faction.

Checking in, and kicking off the voting with...

vote SootShade

His name has 2 capital S's in it, as did the SS, and the SS were an evil Nazi organisation, so clearly Soot is scum. There you go, Godwin's law and your first wolf all on page 1.

When do we need to have room votes in by? Can it be done nearer, a little closer to deadline? And can room/lurker/watch votes be changed?

You can get those votes in whenever you want and can also change them later again. Which reminds me, I forgot to make clear that all players start off this day in the tavern (room 2). If you don't choose another room, you'll stay there until nightfall.

EDIT:

I ALSO ADDED THE IMPORTANT FACT, THAT YOU CANNOT BE THE WATCH TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW!

Adaham said:

Can I do this?

Watch: Llandy
Yes, you can. But when you're the watch, you'll be spending the night in no room at all, but in the icy cold being the watch.

Does she get a big ol' bell and the authority to yell "All's well!" every hour of the night?

Vote: Llandy because I trusted you last time.

inpost edit; ah damn, ninja.

Logical deduction train:

1) What you don't know, you fear.
2) What you fear, has a higher-than-average chance of wanting to hurt you.
3) In Werewolf, if it wants to hurt you it's wolf.
4) I don't know Velpulus.
5) Therefore, Velpulus has a higher-than-average chance of being a wolf.

Vote: Velpulus

Un-lime-greened votes are so two games ago

Also, people who fear what they don't know suck. The unknown is to be rushed into headlong and embraced like a friendly ogre who's offering you booze. Therefore, Eternal is my #2 lynch target right now.

Checking in.

Explaining why I'm busy: I still have to finish a sentiment analysis project and the associated paper, an anthropology paper, and my capstone project, which probably has close to a month's worth of work left to do that I need to cram into six days. I'll probably read along, but won't have time to post with much substance.

Vote: AWdeV

Goddammit, stop bandwagoning Llandy so I can vote her. I died at her adorable paws! I deserve the chance for revenge!

Or like a Were-Llandy? I guess that's less of an unknown by now, though. Speaking of which, I think we can deduce from you jokiness that you are again a wolf.

How long did it take for you to come up with that? Seems like way too much work for a joke.

I think we can deduce from your claim that you believe I, as scum, would be foolish enough to perpetuate the same innate behaviour which I have displayed as scum in previous games instead of altering my playstyle to draw less attention to myself and thus appear more innocent. And, in knowing that I am innocent, you attempt to use meta as a reason to sway others into agreeing with your observation and thus make me appear to be a threat, making me an ideal lynch target because I am more unlunchable since people will be automatically suspicious of me after two wolf performances.

Yep, you're definitely scum alright.

Vote: Xardob for my updated reasons on why he is a wolf:

Phonemelter said:
You know what? You are completely correct. I hereby give you my "Top 10 Excuses for Lynching Xardob*:"

1. He has no an avatar. No avatar = no trust = wolf. In the one game he has played with an avatar, he was a wolf.
2. He is the 10th 20th name on Ej's Adaham's list. It is a well-documented fact that hosts end up subconsciously making the 10th player x 2 a wolf.
3. He is not dead. Werewolves kill people. Therefore he has not yet died because he is a killer wolf.
4. He is a spy hunter. He hunts people who spy on wolves. He is wolf.
5. His faction is neutral. Only bad guys would say they are neutral instead of good. Wolf.
6. He was the third person to respond has not responded to the thread. He is the third not a wheel. Third wheels Having no wheels are is bad. Bad is wolf.
7. He wants revenge on Adaham, probably. Violent people take revenge on others. Violence = death = wolf.
8. He used the "razz" smiley face. Razz = red mouth. Red mouth = blood. Blood of the innocent = wolf.
9. He has an "x" in his name. A player's name is "x'd out" when they die. He is going to "x" us out. X-out = wolf.
10. He's actually a wolf. Wolf = wolf. Wolf.

Do not expect much from me today because I am hungover. Also have a music project due tomorrow and a final on Tuesday, so I might be a little inactive until after that point. Same goes for over the holidays because it requires spending time with family (ugh) and not on forum games, and I might end up at a place with no internet for a few days, so I'll let Adaham know when that time comes.

Well, I guess that's like two lines less in response than the last time I threw a one line accusation at you, but still noticing a pattern there. I guess you did at least bother to question my reasoning instead of being overtly amicable this time, if I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you really did up the meta from the off-hand poke quite impressively.

He clearly didn't read the rules concerning how to vote, leading me to believe that he's just killing time so that he can kill us all.
