Not completely true, either. Scottish warriors were quite the varied bunch. There were feudal retinues, much like English ones, just perhaps with less plate armours and visored bacinets as Scotland was a relatively poorer kingdom. There also were clansmen that, although looked nothing like those in the movie still had their own, unique appearance in the context of medieval Europe. I think they used quite a number of peculiarly shaped vogues and polearms as well. Some almost remind of eastern bardiches.
I think the famed schiltron was mostly a formation and was used regardless of what the soldiers in it wielded.. some on the outside probably had shields and targes, some inside had bows, some had pikes, other probably wielded other polearms. Massive blocks of pikes only returned on the battlefield later.
