Can any scientist forumites weigh in on 10,000 being a useful sample-size ?

I'm not a scientist, but 10,000 out of 2,000,000 (0.5%) is way more than enough. Even opinion polls for elections don't poll that many people.

Of course it depends which 10,000 you're sampling from. Just using the current number of players is probably going to yield an inaccurate result. If you just want a vague ballpark guess however, go ahead.
