The men of the Lumina autem Pendor savoured their dinner. Its recruits gorged themselves on plentyful helpings of bread, cheese and roasted beef. Inside the Captain's tent, his lieutenants' spirit were as full as their bellies. Hatakir nodded at Sir Jocelyn who walked out. His fellows watched as he exited the tent and dive into the darkness outside.

Sir Jocelyn walked around, order a few veteran soldiers. Suddenly, tents were pulled down by those from Ravenstern. Goods and equipment were handled by those of the Fiersdvain while those from Sarloen stirred and saddled the horses as those of D'Shar cleared the camp area and put out the fires. Each of them were culturally trained for this, making the army efficient. Jocelyn watched mildly humoured by how the recruits watched wide eyed the rapid blur with which the camp disappeared. Hatakir with his lieutenants stepped outside to find the army in ranks. The Lumina autem Pendoria pressed forth in the darkness.

"Khan! Khan!", a Jatu rider rushed to his leader. "The fires have been extinguished!" The aged Jatu nodded his head never minding the anguish of the young rider. His personally trained guards showed him out. "Our victory is now assured.", said Ilnash, a veteran Battle Rider. Zulkar steadily eyes him. He stands. Slowly he walks up to him. "How many years have you been here?" he asks. Ilnash is startled by this question, stammering out 2 years in a feeble voice. Zulkar nods and smiles as He turns his back to Ilnash shouting out two years. In one swift move, Zulkar draws his sword, turns to Ilnash and lops off his head.

"Such fools are reason the Jatu are mere desert bandits, no better than those Singalian rats." Zulkar bellowed. The council watched his scarred, rage twisted face, none saying anything. "I am a king and Pendor is to be mine." This words were full of bile and fury, that rose the council's fury and let out the Jatu war cry.

Crime and criminals

Hundreds of prisoners fills the large square in front of the Khan`s palace. Huge crowd of townsmen were around them, watching them with interest, fear, satisfaction, hatred or indifference. From time to time all Khans made various attempts to reduce the crime rate in Singal. All failed mizerably and the things remained as they were before. The Khan had his share, his judges too, their lesser servants closes their eyes and offered their palms to be grazed with silver and so on and so forth. Whoever had enough silver always was declared for innocent, no matter of the amount of blood over his hands. The rich and the powerful ones had their way over the poor and the powerless ones and such was the way of the world.
From the palace came a fat figure with long polearm, surrounded from several bodyguards and the warriors bowed lightly. The newcomer came down and sat over the last stepples of the stone staircase and then removes her Torbah helm. Gliding the long blade of her Manopener, Kaverra looks over the crowd.
One prisoner dressed in fine velvet tried to speak. The nearest Singalian warrior hit him over the temple with the hilt of his glaive. Kaverra smiles.

“By order of warlord Rambulhwa, noyon of the D`Shar nation, the town of Singal will be cleansed of the criminals. The law and order will be upheld and the criminals will face justice for their crimes. I, Kaverra, speaks with his voice and wear his judgement.”
“You have no right to judge me!”
Kaverra looks over the richly dressed male with the distinctive look of Sarleon people and tried the tip of her weapon with a tumb.
“Go ahead, ser, do try to clarify.”
“I am a Sarleon man from noble birth! I have the right to present my case in front of the Khan himself!”
“You may do that right now, noble Ser.” Kaverra raise a hand and showed the impaled head with a thumb. “He is over there.”
Dorvel Leisen stares at the severed head for a moment before to steel himself.

“So you are just an upstart bandit! A lesser peasant and nothing more! You have no legal authourity over me and I refuse to participate in such a farce of a trial! When a new Khan takes rule over the town, then and only then I will present my case in front of him!”
Kaverra busted in wild laughter until tears began to soak into her armor.
“I am a fisherman`s daughter but to be a “lesser” person? I don’t think so. As for the legal right, I have it right here. This is D`Shar land and only D`Shar laws are valid here. You are a drug dealer. The drug usage and dealings are illegal in D`Shar`s lands and it is well known. The punishment is death.”
“You are not a D`Shar! And you are only a woman! You will never have any legal right here!”
“Yet here am I and all the power of the law is at my disposal.”
He looks around but faces only the indiffenent Singalian guards and then he spit on the ground if fron of her.
“This is a farce, not justice! You look yourself as a judge, town watchman and executioner!”

Kaverra glides her large belly for she felt the child inside her started to move.
“It is amusing how a man like you, a man who lives his life breaking the law at every moment and devactating the lives of so many around you starts to look for legal protection the moment someone seeks retribution for your crimes. It is so very funny, isn`t it?”
“I`m not a criminal!” Dorvel Leisen proclaim loudly. “You have no proof of anything!”
“I have my own spies whom I tasked to investigate your affairs, my dear criminal. You reek of guilt as a rotten fish, as my father liked to say.”
“YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE ME!”
“I have 17 000 warriors who says that I have every right. Is there someone who may disagree?”
Another finely dressed captive tried to speak. The Singalian behind him stab him low in his back and push until the wide blade of his glaive impaled him. His screams were terrible, he woke like an impaled insect and his fingers rowed in the dirt in desperate attempt to crawl away from the pain. But the Singalian warrior holds his weapon in strong grip right until his victim died slowly in great pain.

In the stunned silence Kaverra spoke again.
“Anyone else?" She chuckles mockingly. "Nobody!" She spreads her hands wide and proclaims ironically. "Well, since nobody objects, it seems that I have all the rights here.”
An older female in rich brocade gown spoke slowly with lifeless voice.
“You have only might on your side, not justice, and no right.”
“The might makes the rules and nothing else. When it was in your hands you used it in your favour. Now, when it is in my hands and I`m using it not in your favour you suddenly began to care for the law and order. I haven`t had such fun since …”
Kaverra pushes the large warrior next to her. “When I had fun for the last time?”
The man bows and answer respectfully.
“This morning before breakfast. And twice after the breakfast.”
“I haven`t had such fun since after the breakfast!” Kaverra shine against her prisoners.” She laughs and continues with light smile. “I found you guilty for numerous crimes that I have no spare time to count. I judge you all to death. And for the rest of you, who just watch how I will dirty my hands – watch and learn to live by the law or I`ll kill you too. If you don`t get my message I`ll kill nine from every ten living people between these walls but the rest will obey the D`Shar LAWS!”

Kaverra glides her large belly again and command with iron voice.
“Tun`Shehu!”
She came forward and bow to her.
“I appoint you for the town`s chief judge. Narvein will took the position of chief of the town watch.”
She looks aside toward the group of men and women who waited patiently her decision. She considers over it one last time but she had not another twenty years to punish these criminals day for day for all their crimes. She turns toward them. The scarred faces met her eyes with calm confidance.
“They are all yours. Do whatever you want for the rest must learn to respect the law.”
Amongst the crowd Dorvel`s second son raises his short bow. From such a short distance he couldn`t possibly miss. The arrow hit Kaverra in the belly. Instead to scream and fell in agony however, she pointed in his direction and shout.
“Over there!”

The Singalian Horsemen released their arrows in the crowd into the appointed directions. Dozens men and women fell fenestrated with arrows. The crowd waivers, as if the people would like to run. The Singalian infantry closes their ranks. The first row fell on one knee and each man pierce the nearest townsman with his polearm. The second row slashes the next ones over the shoulders of their comrades from the first rank. Second volley of arrows fell over the townsmen from the Singallian Horsemen behind the infantry ranks. Thunderous roar stunned them all.
“DON`T FUC*ING MOVE!”
The huge man in ornamented green armor standing next to Kaverra steps forward from the tight ring of her guards and look over the fallen until he found the lad with the bow. He was still alive, although pierced with eight arrows. He quickly stab the wounded around him before to grab him for the hair and dragged him back to Kaverra. The arrow, stuck right in her belly worried him greatly but Ganikus allow not a hint to be sawn on his face.
“He is still alive, Revered!”
“I have no questions. Deal with him.”
Furdean spills some blood and looks at the cruel woman who judges his father to death so lightly.
“You will kill my father, but I killed your child, you murderess!”
Kaverra busted in laughter, hold the arrow and tore it from her armor along with one metal scale. Then she hit over her own belly with an armored fist. A loud sound of metal hitting metal came.

“It is a plate armour bellow, you stupid boy, even long bows are useless against it. All was a trap and nothing more.”
Furdean opens his mouth to curse her, but he had not enough time. One armored gauntlet hold his jaws in powerful grip until his jaws open at its limit and then Ganikus Medelius slowly put inside his shortened battle scythe. Santimeter after santimeter the blade enters into the boy`s mouth, slicing tongue, troath and muscles. The boy managed to issue only weak sounds full with agonizing pain. By the time the hilt reaches his torn and broken mouth, Furdean was most definitely dead. With powerful roar Ganikus lifted his weapon, still with the body over it, and smash it over the ground. Pieces of flesh and drops of blood spread over the nearest spectator who cowered in fear when the body was torn apart. Ganikus put the weapon over his shoulder and took his place at Kaverra`s side with relief. His wife was unharmed.
“Enough with the entertainment, we have work to do! Let`s start with the judges who took bribes and …”
Just after the last sunlight left the horizon Kaverra declares the day for success. The townsmen were permitted to leave the bloodied square and they dragged their feet toward their homes, leaving red marks behind and ofthen their own piss and sh**. It was a lesson that no one of them could forget easy. There was a new power in the town, a new law and order that clearly showed to all of them that the criminals were just people like any other. They could and would be found and punished.

In the forest north of Pointsbruk Rambulhwa climb down from his horse and took both children into his hands. Verkat led them toward the sacred place, dragging Lesle`s children on a rope. It was an ancient place, roughly oval by shape, surrounded from huge old trees. Somethng in the air itself made them to feel that they are in a place, foreign to all humankind.
Verkat spoke first.
“Vejovis, God of Mystmounain clans, The Hunter Who Stalks In The Night, I`m offering you a gift of fresh flesh and blood! The price will be paid! You will have your due!”
Duulu, clutching at Rambulhwa`s left shoulder issued a terrified scream and tried to free from his father`s hold. Rambulhwa did not move at all, nor he try to turn back. He just said:
“I greet you, Divine One. As we agreed, I bring you my children all by myself.”
Hot breath touches his neck when Vejovis spoke.
“I know.”

Without a sound the huge cat moved toward the center of the opening between the trees.
“Come here!”
Verkat steps forward, dragging the screaming children. One by one, Vejovis ate them slowly before to turn his gaze to the D`Shar.
“It is your turn.”
Rambulhwa bows and step forward until he could touch the god himself. He holds the screaming body on place until Vejovis bites off his head. When the whole body was swallowed Rambulhwa offers the crying baby to him with both hands. Slow and carefully the god opens his mouth and bites her on half, spilling him with blood. The D `Shar did not move nor he issued any sound.
When he licks his muzzle clean, Vejovis spoke again. The calmness of that tribesman started to annoy him.
“You sacrificed a lot for your friend, but he was a coward. He lied to you. He ran away from my people to save his life.”
“I know.”

The god looks at him.
“Hmh?”
“Your people like to takes trophies from their victims. Diev couldn`t possibly just pretend for dead.”
“You knew it, and yet you kept him close to you and step forward for him against me?”
“He was smart enough to run away when there was no chance to win the battle. It doesn`t make him a coward. He fought hard and well for me and he was a good friend and loyal companion. He will be missed.”
The god left the theme and asked for something else.
“What about his wife then? Why you were so ready to protect her?”
“She is brave and loyal too. Her talents are of great help to me and to those around me, even if she is a bit greedy. And she is a good friend. I can always rely on her support.”
“But you gave your own children for them. Why?”
Nothing move over the tribesman`s face when he responds.
“I can offer to you only what you require of me, Divine One. My children aren`t more worthy than Lesle`s. She would have done the same for me.”

Laughter came from the cat`s muzzle.
“You are so naive, mortal. She would have done anything to save them, but not to save you.”
“And you thought the same for me, yet I proved you wrong, Divine One. Even you can not predict what a human may, or may not do. I care for my children, but there are some people who are more worthy to me than my own children.”
“You are so annoying, mortal.” Vejovis hisses from irritation. “Perhaps I must kill you on the spot!”
“I speak only truth, Divine One. Like it or not it is what I do. Maybe it doesn`t pleases you sometimes but it is only a minor thing.”
“To annoy a god is only a “minor” thing to you!?” Vejovis came closer. From that distance his teeth seemed even bigger than from a distance. With a single movement the god could have bite off Rambulhwa`s head. Yet he just shrugged.
"Maybe you know, there are people who claims, that they live only once and they must try everything at least once."
The god snarls into his face, the divice eyes sparks with anger.
"I KNOW!"
The tribesman spokes evenly, as if he didn`t notices the mortal danger.
“Well, I don`t want to discover what you will do if I lie to you. I suppose that I am not into "once" time things.”
The huge mouth opens again … and Vejovis busted in laughter. Verkat trembles but spoke nothing. Finally Vejovis mirth vanishes.

“Good answer, little mortal. Tell me then, what will happen with my people when the demons came to the towns?”
“Your shamans may spread the word that for their help to me you required of me the Ravenstern`s villages. And so they could live in better conditions and even to exchange food and animals with their battle comrades from Jatu and Fierdsvain. As for the demons, they only requested the towns and the convicted to death criminals from all our nations. Their goddess, Erida Occisor, is a magnificient beauty and she just love to bargain. I think that you will like her.”
“I can see already that you like her a lot more than it is appropriate for a mortal. But I see no problem with her request for my people. I care not who will kill the criminals. Their laws doesn`t declare a man for criminal just like that, I suppose?”
“You will find their laws not that different. After all, they too would like to have some peace and quite at home, not to jump on every noise or to nail their slaves to the walls at the evening.”
“Are they really THAT much powerful as you claim, mortal?”
“Yes, Divine One. Perhaps even more than I could have had anticipated. They may put some taxes over us, to rule how many children we may have and where we could live, but they live by some laws and when someone breks it, the others kill him. “A bargain made is a bargain done. That is our way.” They say it, and they really live by it. Unlike us, the humans, who always tries to cheat, to lie and to break any rule.”

The feast of the demons

Reshmdrut-Ableddu came closer to the outer guards and spoke with stern voice.
“I`m here to see my daughter with the permission of your princess. Where is she?”
The outer guards, two Tenari warriors bowed to him.
“In the prison on the second floor, Your Excellency, first corridor on the left side. Just follow the screams and …”
His eyes burned in fury and he hit both guards in their stomachs. Their armor bent and they fell as rag dolls and began to vomit. He walks past them as if they were junk on his way. The others followed him. When they reach the second floor all of them heard the furious screams and Lorgdgaesh-Chetoor didn`t missed the bloody gazes they throwed at him. He swells and tried to keep his confidant pose leading them forward. What his spoiled girl did this time? Did she understood what was at stake and …
They turned at the next corner. A few steps away from them, sitting from the inner side of the open double door Qaggoth-Esal screamed in insave rage and throws the bones.

“A cow, a sheep and two horses.” The waist-naked Fierdsvain Huscarl spoke with obviously satisfaction. “You lost.”
Qaggoth-Esal hold his throat and shouted in frenzy.
“I`ll burn you on the spot if you don`t stop to cheat me! You just can`t win so much!”
“I won fair and squire. And you must lose another part of your dresses.” The warrior smiles broadly. “I haven`t seen a naked Baatetsu lady before. It will be a sight, don`t you think?”
The Valkyrie leaned back casually on the door frame but her eyes shines with interest.
“Sure, sure. You haven`t seen her naked. But I saw her in the baths yesterday and I saw her t..”
With her peripherial sight she notice something and turn aside. When she saw the group she whistle and stand still. Her companion took his post too, pretending that nothing happens.
Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad let the Blood Boil magic to disperse harmlessly and Lorgdgaesh-Chetoor starts to breath normally. He spokes with stern voice.

“What is going on here? Princess Esal, did those two creatures dare to bother you?”
“Who? Bjorl? I already won his helm, his armor and the leather undergarment! Give me half-candle time more and I`ll won his loincloth too and he will be forced to run around as Berserker, heheee!”
“But I … we heard screms! We thought that you may be harmed and …”
“I AM harmed!” Esal rose on her feets and pointed toward her only clothes – her loincloth. “I`m forced to stay in this stinking prison without any slaves! My bed is so uncomfortable that I can`t sleep at least half the time and there is barely and space to stretch my wings here! I`m tortured almost to death every day when they didn`t allow my personal masseur to take care for my sore muscles! Not to mention everything else!”
She presented to them her both hands.
“See? Look what I`m forced to endure!”
The four demon fathers stared at her clean palms. Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad murmurs.
“Uhh, your fingernail is a bit dirty but …”

“I knew that my father will understand me!” Qaggoth-Esal shouted enraged. “Without my slaves I`m forced to walk around with nails like these! A shame!”
Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad closes his eyes in pure heated shame. After all that time and efforts spent to rescue her she could complains just for that …
“Where are your clothes? Are you forced to live without …”
“Are you calling it “living”? I`m forced to EXIST in rags! But when they told me that you will come on a lunch today I refused to come in such dirty strips of clothes and tore them apart! Igae went to choose something more appropriate from Jeag`s wardrobes, but you knew how poor her taste is! I dread even to think what she may bring me!”
“Where is my daughter?” Engeddu-Gaatsekth asked with trembling hearts. “Is she …”
“Where do you think she is? In the bath, of course! I swear in Erida`s name that she would sleep there if they allow her!” Esal sighed. “Fortunately they left her to visit the bath only ones for two days. The only reasonable thing from their …”
The four fathers look at each other with shared understanding.
“Oh, you finally bother yourself to look for us in our miserable state, don`t you?”
Qaggoth-Semal appears with two guards behind her and they turned to her. “It is so kind of you! I was forced to ask these bodyguards of mine to rub my back for the stinking slaves here run away in terror when they see me! And to whom I can complain, what do you think?”

“Daughter! I …” Engeddu-Gaatsekth started but Semal interrupts him furiously.
“NOBODY cares if I have proper services around! Please, don`t confuse me with some princess from Qaggoth Family! It seems that nobody cares if I have ANY bath servants!”
“But …”
“And my dear father appears to check my miserable condition in this TORTURE CHAMBER after how long, I dare to ask you? Forgotten here for a whole eternity of misery without a single slave and living only with the sisters of mine to speak of!”
“You have not the slightest ide. …”
“Living amongst the illiterate, stinking, uneducated lesser creatures, unable to comprehends the very core of the most basic needs of a higher being! I can hardly find the proper words to describe the horrors we were forced to endure, the deprivations we suffered! Speaking for deprivation, just wait a little until Igae came back! She will tell you everything for the lack of proper dresses! For princesses we just had ENOUGH, and what she will tell you is only the slightest hint of what we alredy suffered! But of course none of you bothered to came here a bit earlier, for we aren`t so important and …”
This time the four father tried very hard not to look at each others eyes.
“…the lack of proper boots! The boots we are forced to wear aren`t even …”

An noon the outer palace door opens and the new guards came out to take their shift. The area was almost deserted, just a small caravan slowly moved trought the plaza toward its tavern. The wide carts, lead from four horses each moved slowly, for the carters had some problems with their horses, frightened from the presence of the demons nearby. The first cart suddenly stops and the covers of all carts fell down. The ballistae`s arrows hit the four Tenari and nailed them on the heavy gates. Figures in heavy black armors with painted fist over their chest plates rises and their crossbows fenestrated the Fierdsvain Axemen. Another assault groups came in haste from the nearest houses and stormed trought the opened gates. Someone inside screamed highly before his death but it was already too late. The first wave of Axemen, supported with barely a few Armored Axemen fell under the mixed bolts and two-handed hammers. The assaulters knew that their time is limited, and spared nothing in their advance, giving nothing in their own defense but throwing themselves entirely in offense, storming amongst the defenders without any thought for themselves. Small groups of them left behind the main force, building improvised barricades, pinning down every Axemen, trying to support their comrades from the outer courtyard`s barrack.

Of course, soon they would have build a solid shieldwall to reach them, but they were ready to sacrifice themselves for their ultimate goal and showed no hesitation in front of the superior enemy`s number.
But at the huge double gate of the former throne room the tight ranks of the Amored Axemen stood in their places, ready to give their life but not to step a single santimeters back. They locked their shields together, while the Huscarls throwed axes at the first attackers. Both groups collides with terrible sound and the battle began. The leading black-clad attacker swing his sword low, hitting the Armored Axeman in the knee. He fell with a painful roar but the man just press forward against the next one. He took the first strikes with his solid shield and then one stray bolt hit him right in the face. The man fell without a sound and the attackers pressed even harder. Sounds of metal hitting metal and mortal shouts came from bellow and the attackers knew that they have little time left. Step by step they pushes back the defenders until their backs reached the gates. One attacker in grey-silver armor carefully push the right half of the double door, leading toward the guard room. Inside, he saw the back of a lonely Valkyrie, holding clay jug amonst six Baatetsu laying around her with staring, unblinking eyes. Their chests and faces, covered with fresh blood and vomit showed to him how they met their doom.

While he was looking, the Valkyrie notices some slight movement, lowered toward one of them and hit the demon`s throat with her knife. Blood spills from the demon`s mouth and he stunned. Then she turned toward him.
“I`m done here. Press forward, there are more of them inside. And don`t touch any drink around.”
He nods and left in haste.
The gate shatters under the two-handed axes and hammers, and the heavily armored attackers stormed inside. The rest of them took position in the corridor and prepared themselves to defend it to death. Three men in grey-silver armors step forward amongst the black armors.
“Surrender yourself to Astraea`s mercy and I promise to you that your death will be swift and merciful.”
The demons against him looks at him with curiousity. One female amongst them, with a small human wearing demonskin armor spoke something that made the other demons to laugh.
“Oh, my! The poor helpless us!” Qaggoth-Jeag spoke with wide smile. “What could we do? They have us on their mercy! Shall we surrender to them?”
Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad, alredy starting to raises his hands, ready to incinerate the intruders look at her and sat more comfortable over the fat pillows.

“I`m still hungry. Are those creatures your kitchen slaves, Princess?”
“No, my lord, they are the main course.”
She slapped her hands and the twenty members of the Palace Guards stepped forward, shields raised and some of the first ranks of the intruders made an involuntary step back. The smallest Palace Guard was two meters tall and over a hundred kilograms, all hard muscles without her armor. One of them, bare-chasted brute hold his fists together in readiness. The Valkyrie next to him offered him her second axe, and he nods in gratitude. The leader of the attackers didn`t flinch.
“By Astraea`s will I declare you for blasphemers and I judge you to death!”
Suddenly, the Palace Guards turn toward their demon masters and joined the attackers.
“You should have accepted the Goddess`s Mercy.”
Qaggoth-Igae sip another goblet with shookt and snorts. Then she releases a firewall toward the advancing black knights. Most of them didn`t even had time to scream when the fire swallows them. Scorched and smoking, their remains fell on the floor. Smell of the roasted meat fills the hall and she left the flames to disperse.
“May I kill them already?”

“Why bother yourself? What good are our slaves otherwise?” Qaggoth-Jeag snaps two long taloned fingers. “Slave, take care for the meat.”
The slave bows.
“Yes, My Mistress!”
The voice was rough and full with unsatiable bloodlust but the leading grey-silver knight froze.
“Rambulhwa, my friend, don`t do it! Join us! We may free …”
The slave throws himself forward, swinging his rusty-red glaive with frenzied roar.
“MORE BLOOD!”
One black-clad man swing his Morning Star at him. In the next moment the glave slice his arm and it fell, still holding the weapon in dead grip. The long blade swing toward the next man`s foot, but when the knight lowers his shield to repel the strike the slave turn his slashing in piercing strike and hit the knight`s faceplate. It shatters and the man fell without a sound. The next one rush forward with war cry. The slave hold the edge of his painted with black gauntlet shield and turns the man around with force. In the next moment the black helm splits under the glaive.

The next knight, holding two-handed hammer swing at him. The warrior with the demonhide armor step back and rotate his weapon slicing the knight`s wrists. The Palace Guards tried to step back toward the door and their movement gave the opportunity for the slave to cut off another knight. The grey-silver knight step forward.
“May the Holy Power of Astraea protect me from the evil! I will fulfill her will myself!”
Covered in fresh blood the demonhide-clad slave roars again before to unleash another flurry of blows.
“MORE BLOOD!”
Shouts and sounds of clashing weapons came from the corridor and ser Ralad Baluent understood that his time was dwingling. Still if they could slay the demon lords against them it would be a considerable strike that could inspire the frightened population into open rebellion against their slavers. He took the hits with his reinforced shield and slowly began to circle his opponent. He seemed in complete battle frenzy and cared nothing for defense, yet the first attempt to reach his right arm almost led to his own decapitation. Only the sheer instinct saved him from the furious slash. Frenzied or not, his opponent was well trained and experienced warrior.

“Rambulhwa, came to yourself! I know that you are there somewhere! You don`t want to do this! Please, hear me!”
The answer was a skillful faint that sliced trought half of his sabaton and ser Ralad felt blood streaks down on his left leg. But he gladly accept the pain and uses the momentum to press forward.
“NOW!”
The two others Knights of Down rush forward and tried to subdued the slave. He bent himself low and his slash hit their legs. Blood covered the marble floor again and both fell with painful cries yet it gave ser Ralad one so needed opportunity. He rushes forward but faced another heavy swing and was forced to step back in full defense.
Powerful roar came from the corridor and six huge Baatetsu stormed from the guard room, tearing apart the black-clad knights with enormous strength. While the attackers inside turned toward the new threat the members of the Palace Guards amongst them striked at them, taking them with surprise. Axes met Morning Stars and hammers. Suffering attacks simultaneously from the outer part of the corridor, the guard room and from the inside the attackers fell one after the other. The last remained black knight lost his weapon to a bare-chested Fierdsvain male and tried to step back.

“I prefer my meat well roasted.” Gentle feminine voice came behind his back.
“What the …”
While he started to turn toward the voice behind him fires came out of his armor and he screams in agony while roasting alive in his armor. Qaggoth-Esal removes the helm, revealing the still smoking roasted flesh from inside the black armor.
“Delicious! Just as I like it!”
Victorious roar came from the corridor and more of the Baatetsu guards came inside. Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad easily recognize Hrabbask-Korbellkhet and Ankkelegt-Baltuukne, his own daughter personal guards.
“But you said …”
“I lied.” Qaggoth-Esal took a morcel from the smoking corpse and swallow it. “We just acted as spoiled children preparing this little feast, Daddy. We made so much efforts to inform them for the security details, the day and the place of our feast.” She smiles, tearing tasty-looking piece of meat from the corpse. "We did so much for them so it would be very rude from them NOT to join our feast. Don`t you thinks so?"
Qaggoth-Igae choose another knight and torn one fresh heart.
“We kept ourselves here waiting for another attempt for assassination. We thought, that more Families could be involved and we hoped that we may catch them while they still believe that we are dead or in prison.”

Lorgdgaesh-Chetoor tore apart one body and choose the kidneys.
“We knew that, and after I receive Jeag`s word that you are alive and well we gathered together and decided to rooted this entire matter with all sources at our disposal. We sent some of our slaves to gather information from Benazi`s, while Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad took over himself the task to spy on them with all his magical abilities. Reshmdrut-Ableddu ordered to his warriors to trace Benazi`s best and to kill them “incidently” or in some place without any witnesses. As for Engeddu-Gaatsekth, he suggested to invite some of Benazi`s supporters and to try to sway them to our side.”
The other fathers had no idea about it but put the proper grim expressions of their faces and pretended that they knew about their children`s actions all along. The feast continue.
Rambulhwa hold the disarmed and defeated Knight of the Dawn and throw him in his mistress`s feet. She looks at the captive with mild curiousity.
“Is it their leader?”

“Yes, mistress. He was my source of information amongst the rebels. They were not only Knights of the Dawn but also Knights of the Ebony Gauntlet. Their goal was to behead any high ranking Baatetsu they could.”
Ser Ralad turns toward his old comrade. Calm and expressionless as usually, Rambulhwa spoke without any sign of his blood thirst.
Qaggoth-Jeag bite a roasted human arm.
“How did he convinced them for such suicide idiocity?”
“He convinced them that I`m under a spell and if they manage to “free” me, I`d call all warriors of Pendor under my banner to banish your kind from our lands. Since our kind has no magic abilities, they didn`t knew that you don`t control me but I serve you by my own free will.”
Qaggoth-Jeag didn`t missed the envious glances of her sisters. No doubt their mother would have hear for her uprooting the rebels amongst her new subjects. She nods with imprerious gesture.

“My sister`s deceit was of critical importance. Complaining all day long for their “torture” she ensures that the lesser creatures learned all that we wanted them to know.”
Qaggoth-Semal gulps her morsel and chooses another heart.
“It is a pity that we killed most of them. We could have used more of them for sacrifices.”
Jeag`s slave bows to her.
“My mistress already foresees it. All of these men have families that will be captured shortly. Their Orders also possess well fortified citadels but I`m sure that with your help they will fell quickly. With your leadership and her local servants we may deal with them very soon. By her order fifty thousand human warriors are ready to march. If you and a handful of your Baatetsu are willing to help with opening their citadel`s gates we won`t be needed even siege equipment and the campaign may finish for merely two moons. We estimate the possible captives between seven and ten thousands.”
Qaggoth-Jeag pat the slave`s head as it was a favourite pet animal.
“Good, very good. You may go now. I`ll call for you later when we decide how to finish this bothersome matter.”
The slave bows deeply and dragged his prisoner outside.

Ser Ralad Baluent walks silently waiting for an opportunity to use his hidden dagger.
“You betrayed your own kind! How could you?”
“I betrayed no one.” The tribal warlord responds calm. “Everything I did, I did it in accordance with my own plans, my friend. And I strongly suggest you to restrain yourself from any rebel actions against our masters. The next time I may not be able to save you from their feast.”
“They enslaved our people and you can live in peace with THAT?”
“Of course that I can. For our people there is little difference if they bow to human king or to demon lord. At least they follow some strict rules, while I saw with my own eyes how long endure Koningur`s oath for “eternal friendship”. And the other kings weren`t any better and you know it very well from your own travels. So spare me the moral lessons about humanity. It is put forward only at someone`s convenience.”
“You betrayed your own race for theirs!”
“Do you believe that our race is any better than theirs? I don`t think so. Actually I do believe that their race is better than ours.”

Ser Ralad stops and shout at his companion.
“You are mind-controlled!”
Rambulhwa also stops and look at him with the same calm confidance as ever.
“It was only me all along, my friend. I am under no one`s influence but my own. Or you too are ready to claim that you can know what I think?”
When Rambulhwa starts to climb down first on the large staircase ser Ralad Baluent put a hand into his left sabaton.
“It is good to see you alive and well, commander Ralad.”
Sharab`s voice startled him. He didn`t heard her approach.
“I … well … I thank you! It is good to see you too.”
From his other side Sharal smiles charmingly.
“I lost 50 denari, for I bet that you won`t exit alive. But hey, I won`t hold it against you. It was very clever from your side.”
“Ugh… what do you mean?” Did she had in mind his attempt to hit their warlord in the back? Really?!?
She took her usual place at her warlord`s side.

“I mean that with only a single movement you`ll manage to dispose of all your competitors from your Order. After all they still want you dead. But now the demons will kill them and you will remain the only Dawn`s priest around. And the Gauntlet`s morons would have bring us only problems when they collect all their knights for offensive, but you overtake them and doing it you will fortify your own position. Not to mention that if any of their members manage to escapes he will be an eager recruit for you. Very clever!”
Her sister smiles.
“Well, he isn`t a commander into our warband for nothing!”
“I … ugh, yes, yes, exactly!” Ser Ralad tries to get a hold over himself. “But I was really worried that Rambulhwa is under some demonic magic!”
“Ah, you`ve never been a good lier, ser.” Sharal giggles. “You knew very well that we would have killed him otherwise.”

Later during the same night Qaggoth-Jeag called for her new slave. He came and bow to her.
“Why did you released the leader of the rebels, slave?” There was not a shadow of humor into her tone. “Did you thought for a moment that I could be deceived? I demand an explanation for your actions!”
“He is my old companion and a good friend. I don`t want him to die.”
She didn`t find his explanation for funny.
“I will order his death right now!”
“I suggest you to fake ignorance for his actions, my mistress.”
Her eyes burned in fire.
“So you knew that he is a traitor but still you let him escape!”
“Of course. He will never be your true servant. I have my people amongst his followers. As long as he lives, you will always know where your enemies and conspirators are. You may give him some significant, but yet not critically important post into the government and you will always be sure that he will not go into hiding. Staying in the open he won`t be able to act openly against you and you will keep him busy with actions in benefit of your domain.”

“Hmm, there is some sense in your blabbering, slave.”
Rambulhwa bows to her.
“It is all for you, my mistress. He is a great warrior, but quite average warlord and he is a fanatical follower of the goddess Astraea. For him something is right because he has fate. And he has fate for he knows that something is right. Or something like that. While he believes that he opposing you, all your enemies will flock toward him and you`ll be able to collect them at your leisure.”
“And you`ll ensure that he will remain alive. Don`t dare to hide it from me!”
“I won`t deny the true, mistress. For what he is, he still is a good man and a good friend of mine. I don`t want to see him dead. For his role he will be just the perfect candidate. If he dies, we must look for the new leader, and then for the next one.”
“Perhaps.” Qaggoth-Jeag decides to leave the matter for now. “For your service today I`ll pay you 10000 pieces of gold and another Demonic Charger.”
Instead to kiss the stones at her feet the slave incline his head and spoke.

“It is not what I desire from you, mistress.”
“Nevertheless it is what I decided to give you. Not that I care for your petty desires! Know your place, slave!”
“Keep your petty trinkets. Your gold will not warm you in your cold bedroll.”
“What does that mean, slave? You will take what I decide to give you and that is!”
The slave bows deeply.
“I understand. As you command, mistress.”
“Now begone!”

Engeddu-Gaatsekth drank deep and look at Chetoor with suspiciouness.
“Since when did you knew about our children`s plot?”
Lorgdgaesh-Chetoor swallows his goblet and then another one.
“I had not the slightest idea. I just used the opportunity to hint them that we knew more than they believed we knew. It was just in the heat of the moment and nothing more.”
“Still it wasn`t a bad idea, Chetoor.” Reshmdrut-Ableddu hit one palm with a powerful fist. He was one of the greatest warriors into the demonic realm after all. “I can definitely torn apart some Benazi weaklings! They tried to turn us against each other and it could costs us the life of our children!" He finishes with bestial gnarl. "I won`t neglect such challenge!”.
“Blood shall be spilled.” The archmage of Brotmhesh Family glowing with magical aura. All sigils over his robes shining and flames enfolds his clawed hands when he sips himself another goblet. “I do remember the rebellion from 32 000 years ago. I won`t lost another family!" The rest hold their breath when his goblet melted into his palm. "Dust and ashes will remain from all of those who dares to challenge Shaal`s rule!”

“You are right, Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad! I won`t sit idle while someone tries to destroy all that I keep dear to me! Even if I`m nor a mage and nor a warrior I will do anything to sway the Families of Haarbennkt and Lahtguggar on our side!” Engeddu-Gaatsekth`s teeth creaked from so atypical for him tension. “If these lesser creatures are remains of Mreedvaardu`s minions I will craft her another bench from their bones and new curtains from their skins!”
The others looks at their usually so calm and placid counterpart with approval. Their feast continue in total understanding and detailed plans for the near future.

Fall of a civilization (part 3 : As it must be)

The strike was expeditious. King Tafketg instantly rallied all of his partisans and held a meeting, most of them was exhausted, the assault was much further from their furthest expectation, Gods were on their side that night, if they weren’t, Ufnetean’s forces’s fate could have been marked. The whole forum was quiet so such a long time before king Tafketg initiated:
“That’s just the beginning, mates, there will be many more nights to come, you need to wake up, my friends.”
“But brother, don’t you see it’s strange, how did they know that we were planning to attack them, it’s couldn’t be that polymeric, they must have been told by uhh, someone, maybe a……………spy!!!!!!??????” said Baron Jiqgit, he is close cousin of king Tafketg, a very old general and he is also the one who took the regency after the death of Tafketg’s father.
“I think so, my lord, I doubt we’re having a hidden spy in our court”
Count Endutx stated.
“Ah, look, a spy is detecting himself, how….how interesting is that” Archduke Enepe laughed out loud.
“I’m sorry sir, but……..” the Archduke interrupted him:
“If you’re a no spy so who? It’s you who suggested not to attack first and then we got attacked!”
Count Endutx couldn’t hold his calm, he stood up, directed his fury sapphire blue dragon eyes toward the old archduke, the Ufneteans’s eyes become dragon eyes when they are angry, overwhelming depress or when their bloodlust is high in battles, the color of their eyes based on their characters. However, he tried to keep his cool head as much as he can and said with sarcasm:
“Why is it couldn’t be you, almighty archduke, is it you who want to lead our men to death, is it you who sent a henchman to the enemy and reported entire our plan, IS THAT YOU!!!!!!!!???????”
No one knows since when, Archduke Enepe has lost control with a glowing red dragon eyes burning with thousands of angers, he leaped to the young count with a powerful punch, Count Endutx, as swift as a fox, dodged the punch, and two gentlemen fight each other with maximum strength. No one dared to stop the two ferocious men, except the king, he threw his giant body into the two generals with a bright orange dragon eyes and grabbed their neck. The fighting men feel the earth and the sky spinning when they realized they’ve lied on the floor, they managed to stand up, king Tafketg roared at them:
“IS THIS A PERFECT TIME TO FIGHT???!!! OUR ENEMY IS RIGHT OUT THERE! THIS IS ECXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT!
AS I SAID, WE CAN NOT BATTLE AGAINTS OUR ENEMY WHILTS FIGHTING EACH OTHER!” then he slowly calmed down and continued:
“It’s still too soon to say there is a spy, maybe it’s just a coincidence, let’s wait for tonight, and remember to reinforce our defense system, build more anti-cavalry spikes, improve night patrol and scout, make sure that we will know prior to their arrival.”
Archduke Enepe declared:
“I’m out right now, I’m so out now.”
“If it’s your desire, you’re free to go, but make sure not to let me see you again!”
Archduke Enepe quickly got out of the forum tent, Baron Jiqgit ran after him to persuade him to stay. Jiqgit asked:
“Why? Enepe, why? You can’t just leave, we need you to be here!”
“It’s useless Jiqgit, even the king is against me now, why should I stay, furthermore, I don’t want to stand with that bastard like him.” Archduke Enepe had never stop criticizing Endutx’s background, he was once a normal soldier of an infantry division, one time when they were fighting against the Heretics, Endutx bravely broke the surrounding enemy and successfully save king Tafketg from death, it’s said that his sapphire eyes glowed like a diamond, he fought like a tiger as well as commanding his mates to save the king. Then the king discovered his family’s story, his father and grandfather were honor soldiers under the rule of king Enob the great, the father of Tafketg and Lepiv, both of them were killed by the Heretics so he decided to take part in the army to revenge, king Tafketg also found his courage and talent so he promoted him to be a count as reward, along with responsibilities. Back to the problem, Baron Jiqgit convinced Enepe to stay but he decided to leave no matter what, he left at afternoon.
That night was an intense night, unlike the previous night, they’ve prepared everything to deal with their enemy, everyone anxiously waited for enemy, sweating and trembling, and what has to come has come, a scout rushed to the camp and exclaimed:
“They are coming! They are coming! In a number of thousands, mainly cavalry, with crossbow supporter.”
“Children of Ufnetea, the glory is right in front of you, do not loosen your hands, even a second!!!!!!”- shouted king Tafketg.
They altogether unleashed a fearsome war cry, then torches were lit up, it revealed the biggest enemy, fears, which were distinctly marked in every soldier’s face. And from dreary darkness, the Heretics stormed out from overcast darkness like a demon from hell, they charged straight on Ufnetean’s infantry rank like a rampant tiger, caused a terrible shock among the king’s division, king Tafketg rearranged his formation and shouted:
“HOOOOOOOOLD!!!!!!!!!!”
His troops managed to lift themselves up from the ground while Heretic’s cavalrymen preparing their second charge, the second charge was even much worse than the first one because many of Ufnetean infantrymen did not regain their consciousness. The chaos continued to disorder the once peaceful land. Yelling of two armies, cries for the fallen, sounds of clashing weapons, sounds of waiting vultures,… all of those sounds made up a mournful scenario for the battle. Heretic Magni were the worst nightmare for anyone who unluckily encounter them, their great helmets brought a significant psychological effect to those unexperienced levies. First charge, a Heretic Magnus impaled a footman like a meatball. Second charge, he used their sword to thrust another footman in his mouth, ripped it across his throat, crushed his windpipe, scarlet blood splashed out all over the ground and even on his mates’s face, that poor one took advantage of his very weak last strength to hold the Magnus’s sword and counter attack but that was useless, he fell down like many others. Third charge, he slashed through another footman’s head and ripped it to two, the poor man staggered and broke down, his brain fell out of his half-ripped head, as flaccid as tofu. King Tafketg’s tactic is easy to recognize, he tried to hold his infantry lines as long as possible for his archers can fire at will, his archers were well protected by three sides of thick oak forest so the enemy can’t approach from rear, an infantry division in front of them to make sure that enemy cavalries can’t reach them, and that tactic worked well enough to save his day. Although three lines of infantry were broken through, they successfully defended the attack. Once again, the Heretics retreated by dawn, but the it’s also when the Sun show the real havoc of the bloodshed, stinky smell of blood and corpses possessed the atmostphere, vultures squealed their creepy shrieks and dived into the dead bodys for their breakfast, here and there, reeling soldiers were searching for their survivor mates, a young man drooped over his friend’s body and sobbed, his friend was stomped by heavy stanllion, the head of this guy was smashed up and covered in crimson blood, it’s very hard to recognize him, king Tafketg took part in this as well, in the waves of corpses, he heard a bitter cry, he approach the source of that cry and saw a very young man lying under a black horse, he suffered a long deep cut right under his chest and he was dripped with blood, that damage can easily kill a man if he wasn’t an Ufnetean due to blood lost, his hand was holding a crossbow bolt with his left eyeball mounted on it, he was crying with only one eye, a brown eye, his tears were sanguine, king Tafketg removed the horse from his body and sit down, put the young soldier’s head to his thigh, as tender as a father, the poor soldier whispered:
“Wa…water…I’m thir…thirsty!”
King Tafketg asked prince Yannap to give him a canteen, then he lifted the soldier’s head and let him drink from his holding canteen, then asked:
“What is your name, son?”
“L….up, Lup, my lord”
“What is your age?”
“I…I’m 16”
“Pretty young, you are better than me boy, at your age, I was busy pursuing my brother.” King Tafketg smiled.
Lup kept on:
“I…. ca…..can’t see, it is…..it is becoming darker and darker. I…..I’m s….so cold, I can’t mo……move my body, I’m scare.” He started to shiver.
The king embraced him like a kind father:
“I’m here, young man, I’m being here with you, the king is here with you, don’t be scare my boy.” King Tafketg couldn’t repress his tears from falling, he remembered of his father Enob again, his brave father, he regreted that he didn’t dare to hug his father for the last time because he was too little that time, he didn’t dare to even look at his heroic father who was covered in blood, that was overwhelming for a child. Tafketg tried to hold his emotions and continued to ask:
“How about your family?”
“I have my mother back home, and……my sweetheart Rina.” He bursted into sobbing hiccoughs, blood from his eye once again poured out.
“I guess she is the most adorable girl in the world, isn’t she?”
“You…..are right, sir.” For the first time, a smiled appeared on that dry bloody lips again.
“That is Rina who is two years older than me, she got long blonde hairs and innocent green eyes, she is a brewer working on a tavern near my home.” His eye was alight with pride.
“Just before we left, she came to me and brought me good news, we are having a baby, we were going to get marry when I returned but now I’m…I’m…I’m… and who will take care of my mother?!” He bursted into tears again, king Tafketg eased him:
“Don’t worry my boy, we will take care of them for you, and I will tell your children about you. It was my pleasure to have a courageous soldier like you on my side, you sacrificed your life, youth, your personal happiness for this city, your name will be remember not a hundred years nor a thousand but forever, so….rest in peace!”
“Tha…thank you….” He took his last breath with a smile of satisfaction, then his soul soared into the air and flew away, after that, his set of armors and weapons melted down into dust. He’s only one of many who died for loftier values, they were once a father, a son, a husband, a sweet lover or just a playful teenager.
They buried the dead and provided medical aid to the injured, the corpses, of both Heretics and Ufneteans stacked up as high as huge bale of hays and straws, king Tafketg found a high place and urged his men:
“Be strong, brothers, that was just the second night, there might be a hundred nights to come, so do not falter, if we fall, Ufnetea will fall, and once Ufnetea has fallen, your kin will be massacred, your woman and children will be enslaved. But, that will not happen, I can’t do anything, that is obvious if I do alone. However, you’re all here with me, you are all my sons and my brothers. IF THEY WANT TO, ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE THEM A HUNDRED MORE NIGHTS, AND ARE YOU READY TO LET THEM TASTE THE FLAVOUR OF FAILURE LIKE OUR ANCESTORS HAVE DONE!!!!!!!!!!” He said sharply.
The army temporarily forgot their pains, tiredness, sufferings to bury their mates, reassemble their divisions, rebuild traps, clean their weapons for the night. That day’s night was a full-moon night, a dove flew over their camp, that made a stir among Ufnetean army, soldiers discussed that was a sign of peace. And what they expected was right, their enemy didn’t attack that night, at about 4:00 AM they shouted out with glee, blood didn’t shed. They spent the next day practicing anti-cavalry tactic. But one night, two nights, three nights, they didn’t suffer any assault. However, no one can image the darker conspiracy happening behind their back.
It’s happened that a large number of soldiers got a sickness that damaged their strength heavily, they couldn’t find the reason, if they got attacked that time, that would be a slaughter, and the worse actually came to them, they got attack at midnight again, it would have been a massacre, but their experience and bravery through two nights of terror and from veterans compensated their weakened strength, even though the casualties were still too big. Medics had to work at full capacity in field hospitals to cure injured and patients. King Tafketg called Jiqgit to find a solution, Jiqgit used to be an excellent student of Ufnetean National University in chemistry and herbalism before he became a military general, he told Tafketg:
“My lord, this sickness caused by an extremely poisonous toxic, a mixture of ebony tree sap, blood of bat, saliva of fox and piss of toad. Despite of its toxicant, it must be loaded into body in a decent period of time to trigger, this will not kill them, only weaken them, I reckon because the Heretics want our soldiers to live so they can do their evil sacrifice ceremony. There is no antidote for it yet, but I’m going to try my best to make it up.”
King Tafketg hung his head in his shoulders, cramped up his brows and mumbled:
“God! Isn’t it harsh enough?!” head to Jiqgit, he asked:
“Do you have any idea about the way that evil thing infected our men?”
“A continuous transmission, if it’s not from food, it’s from nowhere, water is also an easy way for the enemy to poison us.”
“But the enemy can not reach our supplies route.”
“I guess it from our own rank, that matter again, there must be a spy ruining us from inside.”
“I still think it’s too soon to say anything, but if it is, do you have any idea who he is?”
Jiqgit hesitated:
“This is just my point of view, do you remember the one who escorted the last soldier food caravan?”
“Do you….do you mean Enepe?”
“You got it. I believe that we were the primal target but we consume separated food and they were surveyed before we eat. I reckon he engaged with Endutx willingly and leave to create an innocent evidence”
“But he’s a veteran general, he has served and contributed a whole life, how can he betray us?!”
Jiqgit slightly smiled:
“Human nature, ha, is hard to change, but it’s not impossible, I was the one met him when our caravan arrived, I took a quick look at wheat crates, I saw they were opened before despite of their careful rewrap, after that he has tried to find a fair reason to leave so he intentionally picked a quarrel with Endutx. But, it’s just my thoughts nonetheless, don’t mind that.”
King Tafkegt really didn’t want to believe in that, although hot-tempered, arrogant and sometime impatient, Enepe is extremely loyal and chivalric, the reality of being betrayed by him like a great hammer hit his head, he didn’t want believe that but he couldn’t avoid controversial thoughts which kept coming to his mind. The next four days were pathetic for them, the Heretics came every night, faced them were exhausted and sick soldiers. Day five, the king’s army was put into a fatal circumstance, many soldiers were starved and drained by the sickness, many others were killed while fighting with the Heretics, if he got strike again, they will collapse for sure. By afternoon, Jiqgit came to Tafketg’s tent and reported to the king:
“My lord, the antidote is much harder to make and much more time-consuming than I expected, I need about three more days, I know what situation we’re currently on but I have a temporary solution, now you declare we have found the antidote and I will give them some steroid, this drug is simply painkiller and sensation deceiver, this is more like a psychological treatment but I believe it helps in this critical situation, I’m waiting for your permission.”
“We have no option, brother, just do what you want, make sure our men are ready for tonight.”
“As you wish, brother.”
As he commenced to dispense the medicine for the army, they cheered like a child, they quickly regain their energy and above all their spirit, it felt like they can move a mountain, no one can stop them, but the one who pleased the most was Tafketg. That night their enemy, again, let them wait in disappointment. The next day was terrible, since what they had were fake medicine, their sickness came back to persecute them, they moved toward the tent of Jiqgit to find an explanation for it, the situation was intense before the arrival of king Tafketg, when he came, he explain that Jiqgit just wanted to boost their morale, the soldiers, although extremely angry, they accepted to trust in their leader and returned to their positions, the sickness seemed to be worse than the earlier days. The Heretics came, and the king’s army have no strength resist that, their infantry formation was ripped apart, the moment when everything was almost come to an end for them, a person have saved their day, an old cavalryman mounted on a colorful steed lead his men, cavalry also, trucked heavily on the right flank of the Heretics, they were wearing the same equipment as king’s army. When he came closer, they recognized him, he is, no one else, Enepe, still that style, that bad-tempered, as he charged and butchered a Magnus’s head, his mouth swore at them:
“Die, dogs!!!!!!”
The Heretics army was totally surprised about that, they managed to fight back but Enepe’s cavalry successfully crushed their crossbowmen formation, after defeating them the rear, Enepe led his men to charge toward the cavalries in front multiple of times , along with it, Ufnetean infantries sallied out to help, Enepe’s cavalry played the role of a hammer and Tafketg’s infantry played the role of an anvil, the Heretics, who were the patient of that synergy, suffered heavy losses, in high morale, the Ufnetean was boosted their strength, despite of serious sickness, they released all of their anger, vengeance of their fallen mates, their eyes shined like stars, war cries were as fierce as they would shook the earth and the sky. For the first time of the war, the Heretics army was defeated and suffered heavy casualties, they routed in terror by late night. The day after was the happiest day since they left the city, soldiers hold hands and sang triumphant chants, Archduke Enepe rushed to king Tafketg’s tent, Tafketg embraced him and gave a strong clap on his shoulders:
“I know that, I’m sure about that, I’m sure that you will return no matter what, you will not leave your king and above all, you will not miss any “party”, won’t you!”
Enepe responded with a big laugh:
“Yeah, yeah, how can I miss a big “party” like that!!!!”
They both laughed, Enepe kept on:
“Ohhhhh, I’m also sorry my lord, I shouldn’t have been impatient and childish like that, I shouldn’t have left”
“Why should you care about that right now, the important thing is that you are back, don’t mind that anymore. Ah, where are all that awesome cavalrymen?”
“Ah, how did I forget that, I did a supplementary gathering and I got them”
“How did you know to take a roundabout route and surprisingly flank the enemy”
“It’s a genius thought by Lepiv the Wizard, after hearing I illustrate their tactic, he suggested me to come from the flank and he was right”
“That was him who saved the day again”
“I have heard of a strange sickness rampaging our camp, it is right?”
King Tafketg pointed his sight at the space, breathed a sigh and said with a low voice:
“Yes, Jiqgit is making antidote but it’s way too hard and he even doesn’t know when is it completed”
“How about…telling Lepiv so he can call his friends for help, he has a good relationship with some of the best medical scholars”
“Jiqgit is still working on it and I can’t disturb Lepiv because he has a lot of other matters to care about especially when I’m not there”
“So…I guess I should leave now, I will reorganize our rank and give our men some additional training”
“Ok, go for it”
Just after Enepe left a few moments, Jiqgit came to Tafketg’s camp, Taketg couldn’t hide his please and told Jiqgit:
“Did you see that, he returned for me, he is not a spy, I know that”
“Glad to hear that. I bring good news for you, the antidote is ready”
Tafketg lifted his face to the sun and pray:
“This is the best day of my life”
Turned his head toward Jiqgit:
“Hurry up, hurry up, give it to my soldiers, in the will of the sun goddess, our suffering ends here!!!”
“Consider it done, sir”
Jiqgit sent it out among the army, the triumph and the antidote made up a significant moral boost for them, feel like they would storm the earth. Because of high spirit, generals gathered to ask Tafketg to attack, the king answered them:
“It’s time to show them we no coward!”
They marched to Heretics’ camp at noon, there was a heavy rain so they decided to wait and wait for the rain to stop, by late noon the rain finally stopped, they launched a surprise attack on front camp of the Heretics, after the rain, due to poor protection because they never expected any attack from Ufnetean, their crossbow strings were wet and couldn’t be used, their cavalry couldn’t reach their mounts, a bloodbath was predicted. Like a hungry beast, Ufnetean troops butchered everything they encountered, with power of a dragon, they ripped their enemy apart with all of vengeance which being hoarded for too long, their eyes were as blazing as stars every time they nailed a blow on them. Despite of bloodlust spirit, Tafketg knew when to stop, he ordered his men to retreat at late dusk when the enemy is empowered by darkness. Wet path made it more difficult for them to go back, but it didn’t matter because they’ve just got a glorious victory, that night was the most peaceful night they got, the best sleep they had since the beginning of the war.
The effect of the glorious battle helped them to gain confidence, they’ve won many battles later on, the soldiers became seasoned as time went by, in a battle they even ambushed the enemy on their path and killed huge number of enemies. The joy of sequence of victories spread among the city of Ufnetea led to more and more soldiers join the king’s crusade, but they were still be outnumbered heavily. Cunning Heretics found out a new filthy way to destroy the king’s high morale forces, they’ve planned to burn down the outskirt forests and attack when their enemy is still in chaos, the tactic seemed perfect, at exact 0:00 their arsonists altogether lit up the forests and ran away, the Heretics army ferociously charged straight to the burning camp, not even a single resistance from Ufnetean, the Magni laid waste to everything on their sight, slashed remaining men like butter, while in blood rage, they realized something uncommon, the Ufnetean armors didn’t disappear as they’ve since before, the leader Magnus came down and took a look at the corpse he just killed, he shivered to see the corpse was nothing than a puppet made from leaves and tree branches, he frightened and hastily ordered his men to retreat. But that was too late, from afar, resounded war horns and drums was like a requiem for those Magni and minions, the legion of justice approach from the flanks in colorful armors and horses, every horse carried three men, an archer, an infantryman and a cavalryman. The Heretics cavalry tried their best to get out of the camp Ufneteans were faster. Infantrymen and archers of Ufnetea jumped down from their horse and formed a shield wall in front of enemy cavalry. Prince Yannap himself led the cavalry force successfully teared the enemy formation into two and massacre their crossbow user behind, who were poorly equipped with light armor and pathetic melee weapons and have no chance to fight back. Prince Eqgusviq-The Infantry Marshal-commanded his troops to move forward and locked their enemy up to the burning camp and woods, in the peak of feud, they slowly approached like a predator and a wounded prey. King Tafketg took control of archer lines and he, himself, rode line to line to lit up arrows then rose his torch
“AS MY SIGNAL, UNLEASH HELL!!!!”
They waited until their infantry wall move to a suitable place where they wouldn’t not get shot from archers and not enough space for the stuck cavalry can’t organize any charge toward them. At the moment infantry stopped, king Tafketg gave a cry:
“FIREEEEEEEEEEE!!!! GIVE IT ALL BACK TO THEM!!!!!!!”
Turn by turn, line by line, hails of flamed arrow rained down like mini meteors, quenchless flame rose up to tens of metres, swallowed everything inside, as bright as daytime, the smell of burning flesh took over the air, it’s good steroid for those who are lusting for blood. When the Heretics were mortally weakened, with last strength they tried to assemble and made up a turtle formation but it didn’t seem to work well, Tafketg decided to give them a coup d’grâce, prince Eqgusviq ordered to split infantry formation into two, they altogether turned side way and stepped back, behind them, thousands of horsemen in a wedge formation like a giant drill led by prince Yannap, when he roared:
“Charge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
They neighed their horse and began to charge straight on in, their sharp swords and lances shined garishly in flame, fragile Magni couldn’t stand even a single charge, their formation was brutally teared apart, they were smacked, stomped and one by one was stroke down, the last of them fell by early morning. The sound of triumph spread among Ufnetean, they spent the next day cleaning up the battlefield, sunlight unveiled coal black corpses which were totally cremated and curled. They had to find a new place to set camp since their camp was completely burnt down, they camped in a flater and clearer place near a lake, this put them into a more critical situation if they get charged, but they know that a build a multilayer defend system with pike fences and deep trenches

Even Eyegrim couldn’t imagine how his men fail, they planned everything perfectly before the battle. The fact was, three days ago when a group of Ufnetean went to the jungle to load water from a stream, they caught one of the arsonists who was navigating the landscape and knew their dirty trick, they end up killing the scout and one of them bravely disguised into a minion and stay in their camp for the whole time while the remaining men went back to camp and told king Tafketg. One the detail the Heretics didn’t notice that when they stepped into their own trap, that spy was the one who set fire in the entrance and totally block their way back, and when everything was in chaos, he also put out the fire for his mates to charge.

That was an unbearable shame for Eyegrim, he swore and oath to Erida Occisor to revenge. Two days later Ufnetean camp was frightened by a piercing howl from their foe, then a black cloud soared up to the sky and cover a large area. None of them knows what happened there, and also no one how horrible is the creature they are going to cope with.

Don`t make promises that you won`t keep

Qaggoth-Jeag landed over the citadel`s main gate and folds her wing over her back. Her personal minions bowed low and she turns toward R`Nooktesh-Haatul.
“Report!”
She bows again and her red face twisted in light smile.
“My warriors took the towers and drop the bridge just after midnight. The lesser creature`s archers are pathetic and acted as if they see nothing during night time. Two-thirds of the defenders slept and the alarm took them even without armors. Your minions still collects the captives. This citadel is yours, my Mistress!”
“Good. How many captives we have?”
R`Nooktesh-Haatul consults shortly with one of her minions before to speak again.
“2647 lesser creatures are properly secured and ready for transport. Your minions continue to bring more. When we collect them all, I`ll left my second, Tonakkchge-Llbetomh to …”

“You will personally oversee that the sacrifices may begin immediately after the final counting.” Qaggoth-Jeag looks down toward five screaming females, wearing several children, who try to hide in dark corner of the street far below. These lesser creatures acted as if they didn`t knew that all demons had excellent vision day or night. The nearest Tenari warriors just dragged them toward their Heretic Worshipers, already holding ropes in readiness.
After some time loud steps from metal boots came from the staircase and one of her personal slaves bows to her. A few more stands behind him still with bloodied weapons in their hands.
“May I note that your shining presence is an inspiration for all of us, your most humble minions, my Mistress of Beauty?”
Several demons amongst her court nod in approval. The lesser creature showed most proper behavior for personal slave, even from one such newly enslaved one. Qaggoth-Jeag tries to hide her nervous shudder but fortunately the creature didn`t rush into a whole tirade.
“I hope, for your sake, that you have good news, slave.”

“By your will this citadel was captured, my mistress. Our loses are within the foresee borders, the captives are even more than the initial expectations. It seems that many peasants from the nearby villages sought refuge within these walls. Only from this citadel the total number of our captives is 7923.” The slave`s report was short and essential. “Your orders?”
“See that the wounded will receive proper care, slave. I`ll hold you responsible if some of them dies from neglected wound!”
“As you wish, my mistress.” The slave bows again. “Would you like to escort your share of them toward your town?”
She already started to spreads her wings to leave when his words reached her ears and she froze.
“MY SHARE?!?”
“A tenth of the loot is yours, mistress, as our ruler. Another tenth is mine. The rest of the loot will be shared amongst the warriors.”
She slowly turns toward the lesser creature and the fire in her eyes made the nearest Baatetsu to step aside.
“ALL captives will be sent for sacrifice. Other minions of mine will take care of that. You may have your share from the gold and the other loot from the citadel. You may go!”

The slave however stand his ground as of rooted on his place.
“The slaves are part of the loot and they will be shared properly by the law.”
“I couldn`t care less for your pathetic laws, miserable creature! Know your place!”
The slave holds his place as some statue.
“It is the will of Erida herself and her laws that binds all her minions.” The eyes of the lesser creatures thinned to mere slits on its small face. “Do you want to order something else?”
“She needs all the captives I`m able to provide to her!” Qaggoth-Jeag tried to hold herself in front of her court. “I want them all!”
The lesser creature responds with flawless bow and tone, yet she knew that it was nothing but a mock.
“You will do with your own share of the loot as you wish, mistress. Your servants will do the same with their property.”
Frenzied, she holds her fists tight not to tear off its little head on the very place.

“You will give me your share of the captives and your warriors will do the same! You will be compensated with the coins and with the other items you may loot from the citadel. It is my will!”
“You have no right to take a warrior`s share of the loot, mistress, and you know it very well. Even Erida herself will not demand such a thing. The law binds us all.”
She stare at the little face, frozen as carved mask.
“I want them all. And you will give them to me.”
“No.”
Almost blind in fury she put a long nail under its jaws.
“What did you just said?”
“You heard me very well, mistress. You possess my life as my mistress, not my property. By the law you can`t take neither my share of the loot nor the share of any other warrior.”

Murmur in agreement came from the older servants in her court. The lesser creature definitely took the new rules at heart. The ancient Baabakght-Yoktushergh nods in approval. Tens of thousands of years he served Erida faithfully as one of her priests and some even whispered that he served under some of the previous kings of the demonic realm.
“You have trained this creature well, my Mistress. No matter of your tests, it remained faithful to our Laws. You may be a child yet, but I can only bow your ability to choose the most loyal amongst us for your personal servants.”
Qaggoth-Jeag tried to hold herself and nods to her oldest supporter. Fortunately for her he knew nothing for her bargain with the creature.
“You have taught me well, Elder One. But I`ve reached adulthood six hundreds of years ago.”
He smiles at her with true affection.
“I called your own mother a “child” up to her 60 000th birthday, my little Princess. And she still seeks my council from time to time.”

“I … thank you, Elder One.”
She turns again toward the slave, who stood in respectful silence while the Elder One spoke with her.
“Tell your warriors that I`ll purchase their share of the slaves.”
“They will not sell their slaves to you, mistress.”
“I didn`t asked you for your opinion, slave! I gave you an order!”
Baabakght-Yoktushergh interferes with calm voice.
“Tell me, slave, why they will not sell their slaves?”
“They have already given them to me, Elder One.”
“It is settled them.” The old demon bows to his mistress. “With your permission, Mistress, I`ll return to my duties.”

The mirror brightened and Qaggoth-Jeag knelt and bow deeply to her goddess.
“You summoned me, Divine One and I obey.”
“I know that, there is no need to repeat it.” The goddess`s voice was stern and showed much of her irritation. “Please, tell me how many creatures you have for me?”
Qaggoth-Jeag gulps with tightened throat.
“792 from the first rebelled citadel and 904 from the second one, Divine One.”
Erida inclines her head while the flames over her skin began to glow even more.
“Perhaps my hearing isn`t what it was before. Are you sure that it is the same number you promised me not so long ago?”
“I … I … I …” Qaggoth-Jeag stutter from fear. “It was all because of the lesser creature, Divine One! It dares to refuse giving me all the slaves hiding behind the laws you alone gave us! I … “
“YOU PROMISED ME THESE CREATURES AND YET YOU ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE THEM TO ME!”
Erida`s voice was gentle and moderate and her face brightens in kind smile. Only the fire burning into her eyes remind to Jeag of the danger for her own life.

“It denied you your rightful harvest! I beg you, Divine One, give me permission to tear it apart for its arrogance!”
The goddess scratches her forehead with one nail, long and sharp as a dagger.
“You still don`t understand, don`t you? You gave me your promise and you MUST hold it or there will be … consequences for you, little Jeag. The law must be upheld and you will not harm the lesser creature. It was right. If you start to bend the laws at your leisure your entire society will return to the ancient times when you ate each other for supremacy. You can not take another creature`s share because you want it. I will punish you accordingly for that attempt.”
“The creature was behind it all the time!” Jeag bow to the cold stones. “It was its entire scheme!”
“Of course it was. Do you think me for blind?” Erida sigh with boredom. “But it broke no law and it gave no promises that it can not do. YOU did it, and YOU will pay for it if you are unable to provide me the sacrifices you promised me in two days. You won`t like what I have in mind for you, little one. I can promise that to you.”
She rose over Jeag. Her power presses her in such a way that Jeag face hit painfully the floor and blood spills from her lips.
“And I always hold my promises.”
She disappears and Qaggoth-Jeag screams fills her chamber.

Hazzlit-Ilaar tries to calm her.
“It can`t be that bad, Mistress! We will find some solution! The Tenari slave knows it well, he may force it to surrender to your will, are you not?”
Gaduilm swells and hold his hands in attempt to hide their trembling. Unlike the new slave he could very well imagine a lot of possible outcomes of his ridiculous action.”
“It is a stubborn and thick-headed creature, but it has a crutch for you, my Mistress. I have no doubt that you will be able to convince it to change its mind.”
“Can`t you force or bribe the cursed creature?”
Gaduilm bow to Hazzlit-Ilaar.
“It fought in duel with Benazi-Mreedvaardu while it was very clear that it has no chance to win. I very much doubt that it could be frightened. And since it broke no law, I can`t force it to do something that it doesn`t want to do.”
“There must be some way!” Jeag trembles in fear. “Find it!”

Rambulhwa enters and bow to his mistress in silence. When she saw that he is waiting for her to speak, she tried to sound calm and reasonable.
“I want all the captives from both citadels.”
“You lie.”
“Do not dare to interrupt me, slave! Wait! What did you just said?”
“You don`t only want them, you need them.”
Qaggoth-Jeag lost her speech for a moment before to ask with stunned surprise.
“What does that mean?”
Rambulhwa didn`t moves.
“The others speaks that you no longer possess magical aura, mistress. It could only mean that Erida took the magic from you. What could be the reason for that?”

“I … I don`t need to explain …”
“There is no need. You probably run to her and promised her all these captives, perhaps even BEFORE they were captivated. And now you can`t fulfill your promise. I have no doubt that Erida will be … displeased.”
“WHO TOLD YOU THAT?”
“A lot of warriors and servants in your palace and outside it speak about that. The mages are highly concerned and tried not to show it, but not all of them are good in hiding their feelings.” Rambulhwa look at her with perfect calmness. “I expected your summon earlier.”
She steps back.
“What are you talking about?”
“All slavers in a day ride around us sent me messages that you tried to force them to purchase their slaves. But the new Slaver`s Guild is bound from a rule not to sell slaves to the Demons or to the Snake Cult.”
“You … you …”

“You haven`t had many options, mistress. It wasn`t so hard for me to guess the goal behind your summon.”
Qaggoth-Jeag roars insanely.
“HOW DARE YOU! I`LL TEAR YOU APART FOR YOUR INSOLENCE!”
“Go ahead. It isn`t likely that I`ll try to hold you away from me.”
She grabs it by the throat and raises it in the air until its small face level to her own.
“Give me these creatures! NOW!”
It gasps for air until she let it breath.
“And what you will give me for that?”
“Is your pathetic life worth nothing for you?”She spoke with total confusion. Nothing in the behavior of the slave made any sense to her.
“My life is out of danger for the moment. Unlike yours. You want something, you must give something. What do you offer?”
“You dare to bargain with me!?!”

“Why not? “A bargain struck is a bargain kept”, is it not?”
“A bargain then.” She releases the creature and sat over the sofa in attempt not to tear it apart. “I`ll pay you 20% above the market price for your slaves.”
“I expected better from you. How disappointing!”
She gnarls.
“Thirty percents of …”
“I can have much more from the Snake Cult, it only coins were involved. You are wasting your breath, mistress. You do know very well what I desire most.”
“I`m sick from your perverted hints, slave! You have no idea how long I can make you suffer!
“If Erida is as half as revengeful as Vata, I very much doubt that my suffering is your concern. Did she take your magic? Like a … warning?”
Qaggoth-Jeag moves back as if from physical blow and turn pale.
“Are you trying to extort me, you miserable slave?”
“I don`t need such rude instruments to reach such a fine female as you, mistress. Don`t you think so?”

Just accept me for what I am

The mirror clears and Erida appears from the other side. She looks at the two persons against her.
“Why I`m not surprised to see you here, lesser one?”
No answer came back and she wrinkles.
“Can you hear me, little creature?”
Rambulhwa slowly bow to his waist and spoke with apologetic voice.
“I beg your forgiveness, Divine One. I didn`t knew to whom of the two lesser creatures against you your words were.”
Qaggoth-Jeag tries to say something but Erida waives a long talon and she froze with half-opened mouth. She giggles.
“I hope that you aren`t here to waste my time, little one.”
The slave bow again even deeper.
“I wouldn`t dare to, Divine One. I`m here to kiss your feet in attempt to beg from you a spark of your great mercy for my poor misguided mistress.”
“You really wish it, don`t you?” The goddess giggles again. “Funny little creature, are you trying to purchase another kiss from me?”

With another bow the little creature spoke with shocked disbelieve.
“I would kill anyone for attempt to purchase your favor, Divine One. You will grant your favor to whoever you decide and whenever you decide by your will alone.”
Erida Occisor nostrils felt the smell of blood and she looks more carefully at the small creature.
“You are in front of me and yet you still aren`t on your knees and hold weapon in hand. Release the weapon immediately!”
And it obeys. But when it releases its grip over the hilt its body fell heavily over the cold stones and blood appears at its thin lips.
“Kneel before me!”
“I can not do that, Divine One. D`Shar tribesmen doesn`t kneels. We don`t knelt to Vata and we wouldn`t do it for Jear or for you too.”
“Your god is far more lenient than me. Oh, well, you may stand.”
“I can`t do that, Divine One.”
“Another tribal custom of yours?”

“No, Divine One. Many of my bones are broken or cracked. I can`t stand alone.”
The goddess made a gesture and the small creature raises in the air and float forward until it touches the mirror`s surface. The tip of a sharp talon pierces its skin.
“You are near to your death, little creature. Jeag crushed you, did she not?”
With visible efforts, the small creature spoke again.
“I beg you, Divine One, show your mercy to her. She suffers much without her magic.”
“She fails to fulfill her promise to me. And for that she will suffer!”
“It was all because of me. I did the necessary to keep the captives away from her reach. Have mercy for her, I beg you!”
The talon moves deep inside and unimaginable pain forces him to scream his lungs for a whole eternity. When he was able to breathe again, Rambulhwa heard the goddess`s voice again.
“She is beating you almost to death and you are still begging me for her!”
“What can I say?” The little creature whispers in agony. “I really like her tits, almost as …”
White flash blinds him and he fell back on the floor, unable to move from great weakness, but he felt his wounds healed.

“And you aren`t afraid that if I kill her, her successor will not honor your contract with her?”
Erida spoke with indifference, yet all of her eyes concentrated over the small face in her feet. Soon the lesser creature found enough strength to speak slow and with visible efforts, gasping in pain.
“I wouldn`t have trust with such a contract to any of my own kind. Even some of the human Confessors amongst your minions use the power granted to them from you to serve not only your goals, but their own. But you taught your children well: “A bargain struck is a bargain kept”. Such is your way. Qaggoth-Jeag craves to tear me apart with her own talons, probably more than she ever desired anything in her whole life. Yet she dares not to oppose you directly, nor to touch the signed contract between us. In the whole history of the humankind there was not a single contract left unbroken, not a promise or given word, not a single agreement kept.”

Sharas moaned and the man over her redoubles his efforts. She looks at his narrow eyes and touches him short beard without moustashes, starting from the corners of his lips.
“More … more!”
She closes her eyes and concentrates over her own climax when suddenly the man shouts and fell over her, all sweated and breathing heavily. She grabbed him in her strong hands and tried to force him for a few more movement.
“Rambulhwa, just a little more!”
“But I …” He starts but when she open her eyes he froze in terror.
“I told you not to speak, you idiot!”
He tries to pushes himself from her.
“I`m done with you! I don`t care if you …”
Her hand moves very quickly and the knife, hidden under the horse hide she laid over sunk into his neck. His words turned into quite throbbing and she looks into his eyes with interest while she pushes the knife deeper. But just as before too soon the last breath left his lips and he fell over her again but this time with dead weight. She covers herself with another hide and decides to go to the next yurt.

Her sisters knew that the Noyon will not sleep there this night and there were no guards at the entrance. Still blinded from the large fires outside she tries to reach the hides which he used to sleep over by touch and then she suddenly holds a foot. Her hands quickly moved up. A male.
“Who are you?”
“Sharas?” Rambulhwa`s voice came low and noticeably tired. “Come, come, just be careful, my weapon must be somewhere close.”
She crawls back and found his flint and steel. Soon, the fire lightens the inside of his common yurt. She saw his glaive and put it aside of its place and then notice the unusual position of his body.
“Why are you laying aside in such a way?” She asks surprised. “And fully dressed on top of that. We didn`t expected you to …”
Then a glow of fire enlightened him and she saw the blood all over his kaftan. A lot of blood. With trembling hands she undressed him completely and began to search the wounds.
“There are no wounds any more. But I`m so tired and weakened that I can`t move at all.”

She recalled vividly the only moment in her life when she felt that way.
“Did she try to kill you?” She gnarls. “Stupid question! Who else?”
His voice came calm and patient as usually.
“If she wanted me dead, I`d be dead. She was just frightened and displeased because of the slaves. She only beats me a little, that is all. And I even received magical healing before Jeag throws me back in my yurt. I`ll be fine in a night`s rest or so.”
He didn`t moved at all when she slipped under the hides with him.
“You are such a pig! Can`t you see that she doesn`t love you!”
He giggles.
“As if I care! The demons doesn`t even have a word “love”, nor that feeling at all. A common lust is all they have besides their Family interests, connections and manipulations.”
“I can`t even imagine that she may felt a spark of lust for you! You and she are from different races and she is so much larger than you!” She put a hand under his waist. Everything seems to be on its place.
“You definitely know how to hurt me. I`m so deeply wounded, indeed I am!” Despite his words he actually sound amused.

“She didn`t cut anything. But I thank you for your concern.” He issued a mocking sigh. “So many people mistake the usual lust with love. It is so funny!”
She carefully choose her next words and tries to sound causal and indifferent.
“So you don`t love her?”
He giggles in her neck and she felt his warm breath over her throat when he gasped in quite laughter.
“You are so funny! When a male lusts after a female he doesn`t care if she lusts after him, no matter what he says to convince her otherwise. Or at least for 99 of every 100 males, if you ask me.” He giggles again. “I want to jump her bones, if you understand me, and that is.”
Sharas felt such a relief that her whole body starts to tremble.
“Then why you continue to insist, when you know that she only despises you?”
The amusement suddenly fade from his voice.

“She doesn`t know what to expect from me. New slave from a new race and she tries with me most of what she did to Gaduilm when he was given to her. He told me much for her. Over a thousand years he serves her, first as captive chieftain of his tribe, then as a common slave, later as house slave until he finally collected enough merits to become a personal slave around 700 years ago. For their kind Jeag is very young, just a bit more than a child, only a young lass and she is over 4000 years old. All she knew in her entire life is that she is a Princess and everybody around her grovels before her and fulfill her every wish. I used the contract and taught their laws to oppose her wishes in a few occasions and she just don`t know yet how to react. Even more so after her goddess shows public benevolence toward me with her kiss. She is confused and uncertain”
“It may seem much, but I very much doubt that Erida means anything with that. It was just a kiss.” Sharas tries to cover her doubts.
“Me too. She may even find it entertainment, but all Baatetsu seemed so afraid of her that it was worth the risk. I think that we must send her the new slaves anyway.”

“To Jeag?!” Sharas trembles again, this time from pure anger. “I`d give them to the Snakes to teach her some manners!”
“No, to Erida directly.” Rambulhwa explained to her patiently. “I`d give not a single slave to the Snakes. I offered a deal to Azi Dahaka and she refuses. Erida accepted it. And the best part of it is that I will sacrifice all Ravenstern population to her altar in exchange of our immortality.”
“You haven`t forgotten Sharay, don`t you?” Sharas tries to get hold of herself. “You killed dozens of Racon`s villagers that day and you impaled her killer and his family. Isn`t that enough for you?”
His voice lost all his mirth and he hisses with such spite that sounds almost non-human.
“If they don`t accept “no” from some female I`ll teach them that “no” means “no”! I don`t give a dead dog if they believes the females for human or not! I …”
He felt something wet over his face and smell the blood.
“You are bleeding? Are you hurt?”
Sharas quickly tries to figure something on the run.

“Naarbatur wanted me to do some things with my mouth. I told him that I`m not Singal`s whore and then …”
Rambulhwa interrupts her with such furious roar that Sharas thought that could awaken at least half of the camp.
“Sharak! Sharaa!”
“Wait! I didn`t told you …”
Both Scorpion Assassins came running dressed only with their loincloth but with weapons in hand. When they saw no enemy inside the yurt they lowered their weapons.
“Sharak, take a few men, beat Naarbatur to death and drag him to me for his hair! Sharaa, ask Khamchugu to come immediately!”
Both women knew him only too well and only nod once before to leave the yurt. Sharas tries to explain a few things to him.
“There is no point, I already killed him.”
“I did no doubt you.” He said completely calm. “You had no choice but to defend your honor. I need to do it, for the rest will never ever thought to attack my bodyguards so lightly. All our actions have consequences, like it or not. The warriors will see Naarbatur`s head impaled next to your yurt and Khamchugu will kill his family in such a way, that all his tribesmen will wet themselves from the thought to raise a hand against you.”

Accidents

Lord Haryyght-Brahthytr bows to his lover. She touches his horns in rare gesture of affection.
“Come back tonight.”
“Even the death itself will not be able to stop me to do that, my Lady!”
His bold and deeply passionate delaration invoke a brief smile at Qaggoth-Jeag`s face and she nod.
“You are a dear. Go now and have some rest. I`ll meet you later.”
He went outside and after twenty paces he recalls to look for his bodyguards. He turn back toward Jeag`s palace just in time to see that the Palace Guards close the heavy double gates. He scratches his right chin in confusion and then walks back.
“Hey, you slaves! Open the doo…!”
Forty meters away from him hidden in the narrow place between the nearest houses Ehtugu-Urbataar throws the spear with sure hand. The long sharp tip pierce the demon`s thick nech and jump out from his weasand. He spills blood and slowly collapsed on the stones. His limbs and wings tremble a few times while he snorts in pre-death agony spilling blood all around himself.
Standing over the walls another male wearing horned helm spoke impassively looking at the fresh corpse beneath him.
“The death stops every one of us.”
His two masked bodyguards laugh and accompanied him further.

“I`m telling you, she was awesome!” Lord Naggthtm-Llobgtemu drank another goblet of shookt and continues. “What she could do with the tip of her tail, you can`t even imagine! And her tits! They are divine!”
Alkmeerkt-Ulkberrgu sighs and supports himself on the nearest tree. The river quietly rustles a few steps away from them. The food was delicious and the shootk was strong enough to turn his head.
“Lie as much as you like the others, but why me? We are friends for twelve ages already and you always lie about your so called “trophies”. Don`t force me to remind you about Darmthool-Welltike. She still refuses to speak to you after you create your “perfect plan for her conquest”.
“I don`t like … lie to you!” Naggthtm-Llobgtemu`s face darkened in anger and he speads his wings and stretched his shoulders to look even bigger. “I tell you the truth and nothing more! I swear!”
“Yeah, yeah, I`ve heard you claims how many times already?” His friends drank another goblet and laugh in his face. “Fourteen times?”

“This time it is the truth!” Naggthtm-Llobgtemu straightened and pumped his muscles. “I mated with princess Qaggoth-Jeag the last night! If you still continue to insult me with your … hic … distrust, I`ll flight you!”
Alkmeerkt-Ulkberrgu burst in hysterical laughter and fell on the ground.
“Oh, good! I was aftraid that you will fight me to defend her honor!”
“I`ll smash your face and I`ll tear your horns if you insult her!
Naggthtm-Llobgtemu made an attempt to strike at his friend head. Or at least to hit one of his four heads. All of them twists and laugh in front of him. After the seventh unsuccessful attempt he decides to cool his head in the river. The water was clear and pleasantly cools his burning skin. Enraged from Alkmeerkt-Ulkberrgu`s laughter that still ringed in his ears he dipped his head into the water. The thunderous laughter deafened and he felt himself better. He felt so good right now, just a bit weak from all the shookt he drank. Perhaps a shot nap would have helped him to avoid Alkmeerkt-Ulkberrgu`s stupid mistrust and envy. His vision darkened.

Alkmeerkt-Ulkberrgu saw his friend diving in the water and laugh even stronger. The poor lad swagger left and right since he became a Lord. Unfortunately his popularity amongst the Ladies doesn`t increase with his new rank so he was trying to make up for it with various stories of his imaginable “trophyes”, each one more ridiculous from the previous one. Still he was a decent person and their families were on friendly terms from a few millennias so he didn`t mind. He felt his head too heavy and decide to take a short nap. A few moments later he already snores soundly.

Haarbennkt-Turguuhtak exit the palace and his four bodyguards immediately surround him, their eyes moved over every passerby and building, looking for any sign of danger. His family`s residence in this little town wasn`t far from the palace. All the lesser creatures around avoided eye contact and moved aside from their path. The Town Watchmen were on their regular patrols and the townsmen looked obedient enough, accommodating themselves toward their new masters. They turned right on the next crossroad and the iron gates of his residents came to their sight. Right in front of them a trade wagon unloaded its various clay pots toward a local caravanserai. The horses sensed the demos and started to twist in their yokes, barring their way forward.
“We should have just flied above them.”
Haarbennkt-Turguuhtak stops and bare his teeth toward his first bodyguard.
“Why don`t you declare to anyone that I - Turguuhtak, Lord from Haarbennkt Family am afraid to walk amongst the subdued lesser creatures! I will lose my face! Everybody will consider me for coward or weakling! Just listen to yourself! Are you afraid from these pathetic little creatures, eh?”
“No, my Lord, I wouldn`t dare to …”
The nearest building, a three-floor house suddenly leaned and the walls collapsed. Haarbennkt-Turguuhtak just started to spread his wings when a large stone fell right over his head. His face shatters, his vertebrae followed and in the next moment the whole building fell over them, burying humans and Baatetsu alike under the debris.
From the other side of the street on the roof of the next house several shadowly figures climbed down and disappeared amongst the crowd.

Lord Merakklith-Vardeeknemg`s eight bodyguards stopped at the gate of his personal chamber. He releases six of them and left only two to guard his chamber. Inside he allows himself to calm down and rest. His last conquest, a princess from Qaggoth Family, was so passionate and energetic person, that she drained all his energy. He went toward his personal writing table and he releases the sealing magic that hold the the heavily engraved box locked. The great red gemstone was truly worthy for such young and eager female like her. Of course, he was much older than her, but recently he preferred younger females. He smiles to himself. Her training was going on very well and this gem was a suitable gift for her to celebrate their first year together. He raises his magic defenses around his chamber, redress into his night robe and blissfully drop into his wide bed. Vague smell of parfume reaches his senses and he smiles again. Her parfume probably would have washed away from him soon, but for now he could have dream again for her. Exhausted from his night activities he fell asleep almost immediately.
Shortly after his breathing become even and constant, one masked figure crawl from under his bed. It reaches somewhere under its leather garment and chooses long and durable but thin spike with length no more than a span. The figure cames closer to the sleeping Baatetsu and without delay it stuck the spike into his right ear with all its strength.

The sharp tip enters easily inside and Ilmerakkth-Vardeeknemg died instantly when the spike pierced his brain. The figure used a piece of soft fabric to imbibe the blood. It wasn`t much, but still the figure waited patiently two candles time to ensure that there will be no more and then closes to one of the windows and rises its right hand in fist. The magic around the chamber disappears and the figure came outside carefully close the window behind it and climbed down to the street. Two wagons loaded with caskets effectively blocked the two ends of the street and there were no passerbys around them. Large hooded figure came out from the shadow. The first one gave it the bloodied fabric. The other one nods and began to mutter something while gesturing toward the chamber. The magic defense re-appears. The larger figure snaps two fingers and the fabric burned to ash in its hand. Both disappear into the shadows and the wagons moved further on.

Hazzlit-Ilaar unlocks her chamber and enters inside. It was late, but her work seems endless. So much deals, conspiration, duels, blood feuds, enmities and rivalries … Jeag dismissed most of them with light hand but Ilaar had seen much more, despite that she wasn’t an Elder herself. With a sigh of relief she removed her garment and reaches for her night robe.
“A moment of your time, if I may?”
In an instant Ilaar draw the knife tied under her left arm and she almost throw it when she recognizes the voice coming from a chair near the fireplace. She put the knife back in its sheet.
“How you dare to enter in my chamber uninvited, you slave? I`ll skin you alive with the whip for that!”
“You will do nothing of the sort. Stop with the empty threads and have a sit. I want to ask you something.”
The even, bored voice of the slave almost turns her to frenzy, but she hold herself and sat against him.
“Say what you have to say, lesser creature, and pray to your gods that it is important enough to save your wretched skin!”

“Why one of Shaal`s personal assassins is the oldest servant of Jeag?”
“You are deluded, little slave. I`m merely a servant. Is that all you have to …”
The slave interrupts her, still sitting as stone statue inside the too large for him chair.
“I heard your blade and your legs moved into a stance that allow to you to attack or to defend yourself, whichever you need in only a heartbeet. Untrained person isn`t capable to do such a thing.” The lesser creature makes a gesture toward the humble furniture and the simple, ordinary personal belongies around him. “You conceal yourself in the vicinity well. What is your goal here?”
“Believe what you want, creature. I`m what I am – a humble servant. Nothing more and nothing less. Tell your friends to show themselves.”
“There is nobody here but us. I came alone. You aren`t here to kill her, that much is clear enough. Until you try, you and I may help each other. Tell me what is your goal, and I will tell you what I can do to help you.”

She stretches herself voluptuously and smiles a little.
“What do you think you can do for me, little creature?” Hazzlit-Ilaar tries her best fleshly face. “Or what I can do for you?”
The slave`s face remained flat as stone mask.
“Do not flatter yourself. My interest lies to another female.”
“I doubt that you have had an opportunity to share Baatetsu`s lust. It isn`t something that your kind can experience every century.”
The small creature didn`t moved at all.
“If I wanted only that, I can use Benazi-Tyutuerke any time I want.”
Before he was able to blink one of her nails touch his left eye.
“Did she send you?”
“Nobody is sending me but myself. Cut the crap, straight your horns and answer a few simple questions. Like: Why a lesser offspring of Benazi Family spreads openly rumors that Princess Jeag from Qaggoth Family mates with a lesser slave?”

Amidst her the blood-black fury she manages to gnarls.
“Who told you that, slave? Speak!”
“I`m not YOUR slave, Hazzlit-Ilaar. I do not obey your orders. But if you ask me politely, I may tell you.”
“YOU DARE?!?”
“What?” Rambulhwa look her right in the front eyes. “Are you implying that I must obey you too and not only Qaggoth-Jeag?”
Which was true, by the way. A personal slave was bound by oath to obey only his or her master. A slave couldn`t have possibly had two masters.
“Hrhgh! Tell me! Now!”
“Ask me. Politely.”
“YOU!” Hazzlit-Ilaar`s muscles tightened on visible knots over her jaws. “You are not my equal! You are a slave!”
“I didn`t said that I`m your equal. The chances are that you are better warrior than me. But I do value the common courtesy. I found that a way too often it is the only difference between us and the other wild animals in the wood.”
“Fine. I can kill you a bit later.” She clears her throat and spoke with angry and tensed voice. “Tell me how you`ve learned about Benazi-Tyutuerke`s lies for our mistress!” Her face twisted in insane rage for a moment but she hold herlself and add trough clenched teeth. “Please?”

“Since you are asking me so kind, I`ll tell you.” The lesser creature spoke so light and casually that she could only stare at him. “A few lads from our Tenari guards heard her into the main caravanserai. They said that she has been quite vocal about that matter. I came to ask you what her sudden boldness may mean and what could be the best course to deal with her. What would you say?”
“She could`t possibly act on her own. She is too minor member of their family to put herself against Jeag so openly. Someone had her back and is pulling her strings. It is a provocation from Benazi, to see if it will pass. If we don`t act, they will become bolder and we will lose face against the other Families. The shame will be too little to attack Benazi family openly, but the next attack will not be so small. I`d kill her for her impertinence, but they will probably wait just for such an act.”
The small creature considers her words briefly.
“Well, I suppose that you can clear some time into your schedule for tomorrow to ask her.”
“Huh?” For a moment Hazzlit-Ilaar thought that the lesser creature suddenly went mad. “Benazi-Tyutuerke Is a noble, she will refuse to meet me, and even if she accepts me, she will never admit her true motives.”

“Well, why don`t you go for a short walk toward the dungeon? You may find something of interest to you. I`ll wait you right here.”
Hazzlit-Ilaar dresses herself in haste and went toward the dungeon. She immediately notices the eight Tenari next to one of the special cells. Enhanced with magic such cells holds secure even Baatetsu. Seven of them, she saw clearly, hiding hastly binded wounds under their armors and cloaks. She closes toward the small window and look inside. Beaten and bloodied Benazi-Tyutuerke lying on the cold stones unconscious.
She turns toward the nearest Tenari female, who wear long, fresh and still bleeding cut through her whole face.
“What happened? Why a Benazi noble Lady is laying bloodied in our cell?”
Ukmanyyulk bow to her.
“Lady, we just went for a drink to a local caravanserai when we heard her lies about our most esteemed Mistress. On our way back we found her by … accident … alone and stunned on the stones in one of the side alleys. We couldn`t possibly left her there all alone so we brought her here.”

“How fortunately for her!” Hazzlit-Ilaar`s smile was all teeth. “The Mistress would have been devactated if something … ill … happened to her! Good work! Did anyone saw you?”
“No, my Lady!”
Both females looks at each other with understanding for some time.
“Marvelous! Hazzlit-Ilaar smiles again. “Stand guard here until I come back tomorrow. Oh, and by the way, the priestess Therbeddt-Centtbasia may … accidently … visit you soon. She is quite skilled with healing magic.”
The eight Tenari bowed to her with gratitude.
She found the lesser creature on the same place she left him and in exactly the same pose, if it wasn`t moved at all in her absence. She undress herself and tried to provoke him once more, sitting right in front of it.
“I understand you better now. You aim for our mistress favor and you hope that I would help you.”
“Or just not to interfere with me.” Rambulhwa add with calm voice. “In the end it will only delay me a bit, but I see no reason to quarrel with you. While I serve her, I`ll be in good position to help my people too. If Jeag dies, I`ll be in a more vulnerable position and I don`t like unnecessary risks. So what is your goal?”

“To advise her as best I can.”
“Fine then.” The small creature stands from its chair. “Lets go to Jeag.”
“To ensure she will not become overly ambitious.”
Rambulhwa glide her short beard in consideration.
“But Shaal is her own mother! Is it possible she …”
Hazzlit-Ilaar shook her head with some sorrow to the ignorant slave.
“Unlike your kind we do not die from old age, lesser creature. There is no other way for Jeag to become Queen of Baatetsu … unless she kills her own mother.”
She was watching him closely.
“She wouldn`t be the first children who`s ambitions led her toward that way.”
Rambulhwa bow to her.
“Then we both must work together such thing not to happen. You may count on me.”
“And what shall I say to Jeag about the new captive?”
“You will tell her, that you found her in the dungeon by pure accident. It is the truth, is it not?”
Hazzlit-Ilaar laughed. It WAS the very truth indeed.

Qaggoth-Jeag throws the engraved table toward the wall where it shatters on small flinders.
“HOW? How this wretched little muuk found such bravery to lie openly for ME?” She roars toward her court and they cower before her ire. “And while Lagrachack-Tulmackshe at least brough this … indecent lies to me, what did you do, eh? ALL OF YOU! GOOD FOR NOTHING LAZY gaturks! I should feed the Edali spiders with you! GET OUT!”
They quickly went outside her meeting chamber, all except Hazzlit-Ilaar, who stood as if rooted on her place.
“And you, the first amongst my advisors, what YOU will do to defend my honor against these lies?”
Hazzlit-Ilaar didn`t even blink agaist her mistress, while saliva from her roars wet her own face.
“Nothing, of course, my Mistress. Or you will ask of me to attack a noble member of the large and powerful Benazi Family? Me – a humble servant of yours?”
Qaggoth-Jeag hit a heavy metal candlestick, smashing it beyond repair.
“None of you have a drop of courage! No, even the slaves are braver than you! You have not even backbone!”

“I am not a great warrior but advisor. And as an advisor I am ready to offer you my advice, Mistress, if you are willing to hear it.”
She sat on her bench and gnarls with the last drops of her self-restrain.
“Oh, that must be good indeed. Say it.”
“I advise you to visit your dungeon.”
“Why in Erida`s name I should go there?”
“You may … accidently … find something of interest, my Mistress.”
Qaggoth-Jeag raises an eyebrow at the tone of her advisor. There was something she wanted to say to her. She stands and walks toward the dungeon.

Benazi-Tyutuerke tries to reach her captor and roars in fury.
“This time you will not go unpunished, Jeag! An open attack against a noble member of Benazi Family?! Sending your minions to attack a noble?! You will be stripped of your position! Release me immediately before you`ve been summoned to the High Court! You went too far this time!”
Qaggoth-Jeag listening her roars with delight before to speak to Hazzlit-Ilaar.
“So you arranged our Tenari to collect her? Well done, well done indeed!”
“Who? Me?” Hazzlit-Ilaar`s face was clear innocence. “My Mistress, that would be a crime! I would never do such a thing! Never!”
She pointed one Tenari.
“Say, Hruhgbugh, did anyone order you to bring a Benazi noble here?”
“WHAT?!” He looks right into his mistress’s eyes and spoke with hard voice. “We found this female drunk and lying on the ground on our way back from the caravanserai! We haven`t attacked anyone, I swear to you, Mistress!”
“Miserable gaturk! You dare to lie a noble Baatetsu?”
“Don`t be ridiculous, Benazi-Tyutuerke!” Qaggoth-Jeag pats the Tenari a few times. “A slave to lie his own Mistress?! Ridiculous, is it not?”

Hruhgbugh quickly nods a few times.
“Completely impossible, my Mistress! Nobody will dare to do such a thing!”
“You FOOL! You can`t trust him! He lies right into his eyes!”
Qaggoth-Jeag smiles cheerfully.
“If I can`t trust my own slaves whom I should trust then? To my enemies?”
Benazi-Tyutuerke roars and pulls her chains with all her strength.
“When I exit, I`ll went right to the QUEEN!”
“When your head comes out of this cell it will go straight to my skull collection, not to the Queen, my dear.”
“You will dare?”
Qaggoth-Jeag turns toward her minions.
“This prisoner acted on behalf of someone else. I want to know who is he or she and everything else she knows about the plot against me. You know what to do. When you are ready report to me immediately.
They all bow to her.
“As you command, Mistress!”

“More! MORE!”
Lord Rullaghtresh-Barhggyurtd redouble his efforts and his wings spreads while his body cover Qaggoth-Jeag`s on her own bed. Sweat covers his entire torso and his face and drops down from his horns. His hearts thundered into his powerful chest while his lips touched her breasts. His movements become frantic, he gave everything from himself to satisfy her lust. Suddenly he felt tightening into his hearts. He wasn`t able to breath any more. He tried to stand but Jeag`s embrace was far too powerful and she press him to herself in her climax. His body began to tremble rampantly, his hearts began to beat as hammers toward his ribs. His eyes glared and he fell dead over her.
Qaggoth-Jeag rested for a time. Her mate wasn`t particulary big, but was durable and knew how to entertain her. She smiles and glides his horns but he didn`t moved.
“Are your ready for round two?”
He didn`t spoke and she sighed. The males were so pathetic. Just once and he fell asleep already.
“Come on! Just once more! Am I asking THAT MUCH from you?”
He didn`t moved and she pushes him from her with force. He fell from the bed like bag with stones and drop in formless pile of limbs and wings on the floor. She rises.
“What happening with you, Barhggyurtd? If you can`t endures that little I`ll find myself another mate!”
For the third time he didn`t responds to her and she turn his face toward her.
“HEALER!”

The priestess Therbeddt-Centtbasia checks carefully the fresh corpse and bow to the princess.
“It seems that his hearts didn`t endured the … tension of his physical stowage. Unfortunate, but it happens with some males. I hope that it won`t bring you any inconveniences, Princess.”
“He is in great physical form! It is highly unlikely his hearts to be so weak!”
The priestess shrugged and her wings shifted on her back.
“If you found him unfit for your … expectations it isn`t my place to say anything. It is your affair.”
Qaggoth-Jeag stares at her completely stunned.
“I didn`t do anything to hurt him!”
Therbeddt-Centtbasia met her fiery gaze with total indifference.
“Whatever you say. Have a good rest, Princess.”

“Wait! Will you not resurrect him?”
“If you really wanted him resurrected, you wouldn`t sent me to heal all those wounded Tenari into your dungeon. I`m exhausted and I need time to recover. He don`t have that much time.”
“I had no idea that he may need your help! How could I?”
“Yes, how could you.” The priestess look at her as a child, claiming that it didn`t ate the candies, while its face was still covered with crumbs. “Of course you knew nothing. And the impeccable timing is just … a coincidence. Like the last one. And like the one before him. And like the one before the previous one. Suit yourself, princess, I don`t care not even a little bit. Good night.”
She bows and went outside, leaving the stunned princess to mumble something to herself over the corpse of her late mate. Obviously she didn`t expected someone to say the truth into her face, but Therbeddt-Centtbasia served only to Erida Occissor and only Qaggoth-Shaal had the right to question her.

Eyes shut wide

Yullkogheem-Ralksmankle considers it in silence, only the tip of her long tail moves around her body as if involuntary action.
“Perhaps you speak true, perhaps not. What is in for me?”
A knock on the door interrupts them and the lesser creature opens it. Someone from the other side gave it long and wide bag and then closes the door. The creature then offered the bag to her. It contained a lot of whips. She asks with confusion.
“What does that mean, lesser one?”
“The Mistress`s order was to give you fifty whips.” The creature`s long hair fall over his face. “I do believe that there is just fifty inside, is it not?”
Mocking smile curves her lips but she slams her tails on the floor with enough strength to crack the stones.
“Are you disobeying our Mistress? I don`t believe that she had such thing in mind.”

“She gave order, I fulfill it. But if you prefer some other way I`ll strip you nacked, I`ll drag you into the courtyard and I`ll hit your back fifty times with some whip. It will be all the same for me.”
Her tail wraps around the lesser creature`s thin neck. With a slight movement she was able to torn its small head from its thin shoulder.
“I`ll never be able to understand why our Mistress chose you from all to share her bed. But one day she will grow bored from your impudance and your little head will took a place into her skull collection. I`ll take the bag.”
“Then I must ensure that I`ll always be her favourite.” The lesser creature took a whip from its belt and hit the wall with loud sound. “Please, do try to scream in terrible pain. It will make our Mistress happy.”

Something wasn`t right. Hazzlit-Ilaar could stick her tail right into it. Qaggoth-Jeag was entirely concentrated and showed much interest toward the new laws for her domain. It was so atypical for her usual behavior that Hazzlit-Ilaar felt growing concern. Agonizing screms came to her ears and she almost jumped although the sound came deafened from the thick walls.
“What was that?”
“Nothing.” Qaggoth-Jeag took another parchment. “I do believe that these lesser creatures could breed faster than I initially thought. I`ll permit them to keep two children, the others will be given to the Temple of Erida.”
“Someone is screaming! And it is a Baatetsu!”
“I ordered some punishment of the night shift of my bodyguards, nothing that you may be concerned about it. What do you think for Pendor?”
Hazzlit-Ilaar gulps and tried to shift her entire attention toward the matter on hand.
“I don`t believe that Qaggoth-Shaal will let you to rule Pendor.”
“Oh? And for what reason?” Her mistress wrinkles against her. “I did evertything that she ordered me to do. The land is conquered, the inhabitants are subdued. The other who thinks themselves for “free” will come to my call to fight for me when I say.”

Hazzlit-Ilaar chooses her next words very carefully.
“But your sisters did tried to kill you and you didn`t feed the Edali spiders with their screaming remains. It may look like a conspiration for her. I do believe that she will divide Pendor amongst several rulers. To see how you and your sisters will react.”
Wild fury twisted Jeag`s fine features and she roars.
“I will not give what is MINE!”
“You won`t, and this exactly will looks like a conspiracy. The Benazi will not miss the opportunity to slip a drop of poison into her court – and your reaction will be everything they need to seed discord. Some Families may even offer their support in secret to bolster your ambitions. And if you really declare yourself a Queen of this “Pendor”, they could run to your mother claiming that they knew nothing for your ambitions or even that they have been threatened or forced from you.”
It shut Jeag`s mouth for some time.
“What the honorable Hazzlit-Ilaar says is true.” Gaduilm unroll a map of Pendor over the nearest table. “But perhaps there is a way to decrease your mother`s distrust and to strengthen the bond between you and your sisters.”

He pointed the borders of the previos kingdoms.
“Here, here, here and here were the defeated kingdoms of Pendor. The only ones intact are actually your allies – D`Shar, Jatu and Noldor. Since it looks highly unlikely your mother to let all the power into your talons, the most cunning and unexpected way to ensure that this power will remain into the hands of your allies is to petition the Queen to give the defeated kingdoms to your sisters.”
“What!?”  Hazzlit-Ilaar shouts at him. “Are you mad? The whole war was to strengthen the positions of our Mistress!”
Jeag`s eyes moved from one to the other.
“But since it won`t happen, we may use the opportunity to bound her sisters to a common cause. Nobody will expect from them to work together, so it is exactly what they must do!”
“But in the moment they have no domain of their own! It is the perfect opportunity to strike at them, while they believe themselves safe!”

“Hazzlit-Ilaar! They are her sisters! The biggest threat for herself is no longer from her own family! The Benazi are plotting against Qaggoth! Once could be accidental, but twice? In such a short time?”
“They can`t be trusted! They will try to strike at her back the moment …”
“Benazi forced them to fight each other! Their pride will not let them to fell for the same trap twice. If only you can lure them to join you to fight against them …”
“Enough!”
The command startled them and both strengthened before her.
“Hazzlit-Ilaar, take a parchment and write a petition to Queen Qaggoth-Shaal, that I`m asking her to give suitable parts of Pendor to my sisters as reward for their participation in the ruination of Benazi plot against the whole Qaggoth Family! Take some of my personal bodyguards and see the petition to be delivered in her talons only. Go!”
Hazzlit-Ilaar bow and left in haste. Qaggoth-Jeag turns her attention toward the black slave.

“Now, now, what exactly do you have in mind, you slave? Not so long ago you were all for gutting them the moment I put a talon on them, but right now you are all for rewarding them for their attempt to murder me!”
“They failed and most importantly, they saw that you are cunning enough to see through your enemy`s plot. Killing your sisters would have weakened your Family, while Benazi would have gain fame for their plot.” The smaller black slave bows to her. “But killing members of your Family while another family want to kill you all isn`t a smart move. Binding them to you in the time of such crysis however IS. You may hate each other, but if Benazi overwhelm the Queen, you all are dead meat. It is as simple as that.”
Gaduilm went further into the spacious hall until he touches the nearest skull from her personal collection.
“And Hazzlit-Ilaar, me and all your loyal slaves and servants will die with you. They will not let us live. I beg you, my Mistress, step very carefully and measure your every word, for now is the time to consolidate all your power against the true enemy of your entire Family. It is no longer a common struggle who is the most favourite daughter. It is matter of life or death!”

Qaggoth-Jeag enters into her chamber and looks carefully around. There was no one but her. She issues a sigh of relief and disrobes herself. Wearing only a thin night gown she spent some time in front of the mirror. The evening went rather well and the new lord of Bharythh Family seemed quite attractive. She fell into her bed and sunk into pleasant dreams. In her dream Ikarrgyhtg`s muscular arms moved over her chest with lustful greed and slowly moved toward her flat stomach … She awoke suddenly and the dream disappear.
“Oh, if only you could be here with me now!”
She whispers the words toward the slight light coming from the window but suddenly came an answer.
“Don`t worry, my Mistress. I`ll always be here for you.”
She swiftly turns toward the sound only to see her human slave.
“YOU!” Her roar waver the walls. “How the fuc. did you enter here?”
The door slams open and the night guard rush inside, weapons in hands.

“Mistress?”
She jumps from her bed, grabs their throats and push then with strength toward the wall.
“HOW THIS STINKING SLAVE MOVED PAST YOU? TELL ME?”
The frightened eyes of Kahtuularkth-Vallibkkul met hers.
“I swear in Erida`s Holy Name that I didn`t saw him to enter into your chamber, Mistress!”
“I swear for that too.” Yullkogheem-Ralksmankle adds her voice toward his.
Qaggoth-Jeag however wasn`t in forgiving mood.
“If you aren`t able to stop one lowly slave from entering my chamber at its leisure what good you are? I should kill you for your incompetence!”
Kahtuularkth-Vallibkkul closes his eye.
“As you wish, my Mistress. My life is yours.”

But Yullkogheem-Ralksmankle wasn`t ready to surrender her life so easily.
“Night after night all your bodyguards took the watch one after another and this slave always manages to move past all of us. It isn`t our fault. It is something else.”
“Like what?”
The slave spoke from her bed.
“There is no fault from their side, my most esteemed Mistress of Lust. Tell them to guard your chamber the next night, and I will find the way into your bed as usually, and they can do nothing.”
“We shall see about it!” Qaggoth-Jeag roars in fury. “You`ll guard my chamber the next night too, and if you fail, I`ll give you to the Edali spiders myself! Get out of here!”

When they left Rambulhwa put a finger over his lips and waive to his Mistress to come. She wrinkles furiously but came closer.
“What is it?”
“How do you feel without magic, my Mistress?”
Her face darkens in fury.
“I hate you so much! I want you dead, very very dead!”
“What the death of your loyal slaves and bodyguards can possibly bring to you, eh? How can you possibly become a great ruler in Shaal`s domain if you think only for the moment?” The slave sighed. “You become somewhat oblivious lately. I`m worried for you.”
Her wings nutates and she sat heavily on the edge of the large bed.
“You have not the slightest idea what costs me to walk day after day after day without my magic. You have not the slightest idea what is the sense to feel the burning touch of Erida`s power so close and yet impossible away from my grasp!” She slowly turns and put a long and sharp talon under the lesser creature`s jaws. “And all of it because of you!”

Instead to cower in terror the lesser creature took her large hand into its two and presses itself to her.
“You delude yourself. It was you who promised to Erida something that it wasn`t yours to give her. And yet you still are trying to put the blame for that over someone else.”
Her grasp hardened almost to the breaking point.
“You dare to contradict me?!”
“This and many other things too.”
Frenzied, she lowers her face to his.
“Mighty Baatetsu cower before me when I wrinkles, yet you aren`t aftraid from me! I can do terrible things to your flesh, to your mind, to your entire tribe! How could you possibly be so calm and unafraid?”
He gently touches her left chin.
“They all want something FROM you. Unlike them, I want only YOU.”
She was way beyond any surprises about the theme.
“For the thought of that I can kill you by terrible means!”
“But you won`t do it. If that magic of yours mean so much to you, I`ll beg Erida to give it back to you.”

Her eyes opens wide.
“You`ll give me the slaves?”
“I didn`t said that. I said, that I`ll beg the goddess for your behalf.”
“It will humiliate me in front of her! It won`t help!”
“You already humiliated yourself in front of her. Admit your mistake, learn from it and go further with your life.” The lesser creature kisses her fingers. “Erida can force me to give her all the slaves she wants yet she won`t do it. She probably had done it in the past and saw that it will hurt her in the long run. So she could try to persuade or bargain with the other side. She knows that I`m not an enemy and she need not to use any force to take what she wants from me. She merely tests us.”
Qaggoth-Jeag almost cried.
“She sentenced me to 100 years without my magic!”
“Do you think that she is unable to see who is to blame and who is not? She punishes you just because you tried to lie to her.”
She jumps from the bed and knelt in front of the small altar in the corner.

“Erida Occissor, goddess of all Baatetsu, I summon you with my prayer. Hear my plea, I beg you!”
Notihing happened and Qaggoth-Jeag screams in despair.
“Without my magic I can`t even summon her!”
Rambulhwa slips from the bed, took a knife and cut his left arm over the altar. When it turn red from his blood he spoke to his mistress.
“Try again, mistress.”
This time a fainth glow surrounds the altar and transparent image of Erida appears.
“What is it, Jeag? What took you for so long?”
“Divine One, it is I the one who will beg for your mercy.”
“You again! I see you more often than my own Baatetsu!”
“Leaving me to gaze upon your beauty is what makes me one of your favourites. I still dream for your touch and treasure every moment when I can lay my eyes upon you!”
The goddess laughs and slaps the floor with her huge tail a few times.
“Flattery will lead you everywhere, lesser creature! Where a tribal savage like you learned such words?”
Rambulhwa bow to her with a smile.

“A Noldor taught me not long ago. It was worth a try, Divine One. She said that it is called “poetry”.”
Sly, mocking smile appears over the goddesses face.
“And you will try it to beg mercy from me for the lying piece of dung before me? You really think it’s worth a try?”
“It was worth it, Divine One.”
“Uh?” Erida`s eyebrows came together over the burning fire she has for eyes. “How so?”
“I saw you to smile upon me. The great Khushal Khan Khatak said: “If a female starts to smile upon you when she sees you, you are halfway between her legs.”
Her laughter echoes in the chamber.
“Oh, hohohoho! And what is required for the other half?”
“Why, to raise her other leg too, of course!”
The image of the goddess fell back, her lower pair of hands holds her stomach, while the upper pair starts to hit over something invisible for them while Erida gasps in laughter. After a short time she spoke again.

“Savages!” Erida giggles. “Even your poetry is savage. But let me hear you how do you intent to convince me.”
Rambulhwa smiles and the goddess add quickly.
“To forgive Jeag, not my other leg, you fool!”
“Who?! Ah yes, yes that one!” Rambulhwa bow again. “I`m ready to humbly offer 200 slaves.”
“Ridiculous!” The goddess wrinkles. “Are you trying to anger me? 10000!”
“I`m not trying to purchase the demonic lands, just a few words! 300.”
“Only five years of her punishment and you are ready to kiss my tail because of her? 9500!”
“I`ll kiss your tail and anything else of yours for free, I swear in Erida`s ti.. throusers! I`d even offer you feast cooked from Baidar himself and then nice bath with exotic oils in the water followed from massage from your lesser slave. 400!”
Erida wrinkles her eyebrows but her lips curves upward.
“Tempting. The feast, I mean. Well, maybe the rest too. I haven`t had such fun in ages. 8500.”
Rambulhwa bow again.

“I`m just trying to be helpful, Divine One. 450.”
“True. At least to someone here. Like to yourself.” Erida`s smile become a mocking grin. “8000.”
He bows again.
“Helping you will benefit me too. 500.”
“Don`t you value her gratitude more than one kiss of mine? 7500.”
He bows again and his usually stern face twists with light humored laughter.
“Even a god will not live long enough to see gratitude from her. 550.”
She nods in admittance of his evaluation.
“Perhaps you are not as stupid as you look. Then why bother with her? Shaal has other daughters? 7000.”
“I saw them. But Jeag`s tits are better than theirs. Almost as good as … 600!”
“… mine.” Erida add his unspoken word. “Some day I may tire of your impudence. 6500.”
“It isn`t my fault that yours are divine.” Rambulhwa coughs. “Uh, I mean …”

“Yes, yes.” Erida look at him carefully. “I know exactly what do you mean. But do tell me, why you risking life and limbs, begging for her, while it is so very clear that she only despise and hate you?”
“I wouldn`t take her otherwise.” Rambulhwa looks right into the flaming eyes of the goddess of the demons. “She is willing to take her sabre and to solve her own problems herself, instead to wait her husband or anyone else to do it for her. 750.”
“Done.” Erida sat onto something invisible and the long talons began to slide over her large, spiked tail. “What will you do with your other captives, slave?”
“Pleasure before work? I like your style, Divine One!” Rambulhwa bow to her. “Some of your Confessors started to misuse their power not only to serve you, but to serve themselves. To take coins and women from others under the threat that they will be taken for sacrifice otherwise. I humbly suggest to appear publicly and to punish them accordingly before more harm to be done to your cause. I`ll pay the price for your visit to this part of your domain.”

Qaggoth-Jeag blinked and looks around. The first light already touches her window. Her slave layed cluttered on the stones, uncousciouness or dead she couldn`t tell on first sigth. Praying to be the latter, she touches its thin neck. It has pulse.
“Pity. I had such hopes this time.”
“I could stare upon your beaty, oh Mistress of Lust, but I must take my leave.”
“Hold on!” Qaggoth-Jeag grabs its hand when it tries to leave. “What did she says? Will she gave me back my magic?”
“I`ll tell you everything tonight, Mistress. But right now I need to be in the courtyard for my regular training. I suggest you to do the same. You don`t wants to grow up fat, don`t you?”
“YOU!” She gasped in fury, unable to speak.
“I know, Mistress. Practice, practice and practice again.” Rambulhwa went to the door but right before to exit, he spoke without turning back.
“Now is a good time to ask Lord Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad if he have a place for a new apprentice.”
He went outside and Qaggoth-Jeag jumps from joy.
“GUARDS!”
They came in a heartbeat and she ordered them to invite Lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg into her chamber for dinner.

They barely exit the palace when on their way toward Bharythh residence a lone figure covered in hooded cloak moved to stop them.
“Get out of our way, slave!”
“You are in a hurry, I see. But I`d like to know where are you going you two.”
Kahtuularkth-Vallibkkul grabs the little human.
“I know this voice, you little scum! How you dare to stand on my way?”
“I see that fifty whips weren`t enough for you, you fool.” The lesser creature spoke with iron voice. “Do you want more? Or you desire to be expelled from Jeag`s service already? I can arrange that tonight.”
“You won`t live long enough to try!”
Yullkogheem-Ralksmankle holds his hands.
“Unfortunately only our Mistress has the right to do it, Vallibkkul. And we all knew it. Release him.”
Muttering curses he did it.
“It isn`t your bloody affair to know our orders, slave! Begone!”
“But you have no desire to feed the monsters, I suppose. You are unable to stop me to come and go into Jeag`s bed until she alone decide it, so I suggest to help each other. You will tell me what I want to know and I will arrange that you will not be thrown to feed the spiders.”
She pull Vallibkkul back just in time before he throws himself over the little slave.
“I`m listening.”

The family members came together. There was no great ceremony, rites or hymns when some of them were killed on service for their Baatetsu master. Just a few words, spoken from their partners or mates before the remains were sent for incineration. Two from the tenth sent on the last night`s mission were killed. It could be worse and they knew it. At least now they could have expected some small reward, and maybe some of their children could be spared from sacrifice in admittance for their service.
A knock on the door forced Ukmanyyulk to rise and she went to open it. There was no peace for the slaves, even in death. The door opens and she look at the lesser creature, covered in hooded cloak. It removes its hood and she recognizes it instantly as Qaggoth-Jeag`s newest personal slave. Two of its personal bodyguards stood behind it. It bows to her.
“May I come in?”
She bows back. Perhaps it came to offer its respect for those killed on service.
“Come in.”

They went into the next room and the other Tenari rises on their feet. No one wanted to look as if they kneel to a lesser creature.
“Why do you disturb our mourning, lesser creature?”
“Were they your friends?”
“Alkughtyttlek was my bond-mate, the father of my first three children. He was on my side for more than 16700 years.” Ukmanyyulk tried to hold her feelings yet the spite was noticeable into her voice. “Kha-Chirackkca was too young to have her own children, but she has parents and relatives who will mourn her.”
She manages to hold herself. It was a lesser creature, yes, but it was Jeag`s personal slave. She bows to him again.
“What are our orders?”
“Let`s speak in private.”
Ukmanyyulk led it toward small cuddy. Its bodyguards hold positions outside.
“I`m sorry, but all other rooms are full with our relatives and friends. Little honor coud be offered to those of us killed on duty, but we do what we are permitted. I`m listening.”

“Do you want to have your husband back?”
She stares at it, but its small face reveal nothing and stood expressionless as bronze mask.
“He is dead. Nothing can be done about him. Baatetsu doesn`t offer the resurrection magic to their slaves. Have some honor and show a bit of respect to our fallen. You are a slave too!”
Despite her sharp tone it just nods briefly.
“Perhaps. Perhaps not. What if I can bring him back? There is still a little time while it is possible yet. If you want it.”
She stares at him with tiny spark of hope. Was that possible? For true?
“Do not play with me in such a way, lesser creatre. It is too cruel!”
“I do not lie. I can do that. Right here, right now. Do you want me to do it?”
“If you can do that, I will do whatever you wish!”
“Good. I want you to kill Lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg.”
The ridiculous request, spoken with absolute calmness stunned her.
“Impossible! He is a master of the two blades! His skills are way beyond mine! At least fifteen of our best must die to overwhelm him and only if we catch him alone, which isn`t likely! You want the impossible!”
“I can bring him in a secluded place with only a few guards on his side. Master of the two blades you say?”
The lesser creature dissolves its cloak and at the sight of the two magnificent sabres covered under it, Ukmanyyulk almost fainted.
“Very well. You will give him two blades. Right in the throat.”

Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg looks at the sky. It was just at sunset. He knocks the door and it opens immediately. The black Tenari, covered in armor with the sign of Qaggoth-Jeag bow to him.
“My lord, please come in. You are expected.”
He followed the lesser creature but when it led him into a larger room with another five armed Tenari stood with weapons in hands, his own hands reaches for his two ebony sabers.
“What does that mean, slave?”
Hytthoreh knelt in front of the heavy curtains, separating the large room from another dwelling.
“My mistress, lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg is here at your command.”
A richly ornamented scabbard separates the curtain right in front of him and he took it with respect. The smell of fine perfume gently glides Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg`s nostrils and he recognizes Qaggoth-Jeag`s own weapon as well as her perfume.
Hytthoreh rises and turns toward the Baatetsu lord.
“Kneel.”
“WHAT? In front of a slave? NEVER!”
Another slave separates the curtains and for a moment he saw a large bed covered with wide baldachin covering unclear for him silholuette.
Ukmanyyulk step forward to lord Ikarrgyhtg and raises another exquisite sabre.

“Disarm yourself and accept the gift of Qaggoth-Jeag!”
He slaps his palms twice and his bodyguards removed his own sabres from his back and moved two steps backside. Unarmed, Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg knelt. He knew the other sabre too. It was an old and famous blade, owned from Kahtuularkth-Vallibkkul, one of her personal bodyguards. He was unable to persuade him to separate with it for any price or favor, yet it was granted to him right now.
“I, lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg, humbly accept the generous gift of Princess Qaggoth-Jeag!”
He bowed to the wooden floor and his bodyguards bows too, still unable to believe on their own eyes that their master was honored in such a way. The two sabres pierced his neck together in the same moment when his bodyguards’ heads fell from their lowered in bow bodies. The moment was perfect, the execution – flawless. The victims haven`t had a chance to draw their own weapons.
Ibhabkuwa came down from the bed and join the rest while they moved the lord`s body to face his own bodyguards and put his own sabres into the gaps in his neck. When they finished they throw a few burning oil lamps around and left the house.

Reaching her humble house Ukmanyyulk knock on the door and stares when Kha-Chirackkca open it.
“He is into your room. The priestess is still with him.”
Her eyes moved aside toward the lesser creature who was sitting on the floor over a common rug in the corner, waiting for their return with the patience of the stone statue. One of his masked bodyguards told him something and they all stand up while Therbeddt-Centtbasia came from the other room.
“All done, as it was arranged. Not that you deserve such honor, lesser creature!”
“We are deeply …”
The lesser creature raises a hand to interrupt her. From pure surprise Ukmanyyulk really mute on the spot.
“Please, convey our sincere gratitude to Erida Occisor for her generousity and her mercy.”
She looks at the lesser creatures with uncovered despise.
“As if I care for what your tiny skulls can produce, disgusting creatures! Do not dare to insult my power with your pettly pleas again!”

The priestess froze in dumb petrifaction when the lesser creature looks up to look her in the eyes and sigh with boredom.
“I`m not asking you for what YOU care, I`m asking you to convey a courtesy message, priestess. If that is beyond your capability I`ll ask another. Thank you for your time.”
“Your Mistress will learn for your impudence, slave! Your agony will be immence!”
“I wouldn`t worry for HER opinion of the matter, but that`s just me. I wish you good evening, priestess.”
When she stormed outside completely enraged, the lesser creature bow to the stunned Tenari gathering.
“You`ve done a favour. Your loyalty will not be forgotten. I thank you for your service.”
He exit and left the gathered Tenari even more confused than before. Never before Qaggoth-Jeag have had expressed gratitude toward them by any reason.

Qaggoth-Jeag expected company for dinner so she took only a few bites and drank only a goblet of shookt and then sat behind the table, arranged for dinner. It was sunset and she expected her lord companion to come in haste. An invitation from her was high honor. Looking through the the windows she watches the sunset when she felt herself sleepy. She decides to allow herself a short nap. She relaxed her head at her chest.
A knock on the door interrupts her nap and she spoke with loud voice.
“Come in!”
Hazzlit-Ilaar came inside and bow to her.
“Mistress, I just received a report about Lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg that you must know!”
“Sure I must!”Qaggoth-Jeag yawns. “He is making me to wait for him! I didn`t expected such rudeness from him!”
“You expected him? Here?!”
“Of course! It was I who invited him for dinner, after all. Where is he? Why he isn`t here? It is sunset already!”
“It is already past midnight, my mistress.” Hazzlit-Ilaar looks carefully at her mistress. “Did she kill him too?” She asked herself while looking for any hint of Jeag`s intentions over her face. “I`m afraid that Lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg will not attend for your dinner.”

“Past midnight?” Qaggoth-Jeag looks through the window and saw the darkness outside. “How dare he to be so late! Sent order to him to present himself to me immediately!”
“It will be impossible, my mistress. He has been found dead in a burned house in the east part of the town along with two of his personal bodyguards. The initial viewpoint of the place suggests that he killed his bodyguards and then himself.”
“It can`t be!” Qaggoth-Jeag rise from her chair and steps toward Hazzlit-Ilaar who cowers at the sight of her face. “Send both of my mages to check the place immediately. Go!” She shouts infuriated. “Guards!”
They came in a heartbeat and bow to her.
“Mistress?”
“Are you sure that you didn`t misplaced my invitatioin? Lord Bharythh-Ikarrgyhtg had been found dead in the east part of the town! How you will explain that?”
They both inclined their heads in negation. Yullkogheem-Ralksmankle bow again.
“We invited him as you ordered and then came back to guard your chamber until you alone called us. After the kitchen slaves brought you the dinner we saw no one to come or go from your chamber.”

She looks intensively into their eyes but they didn`t faltered and their eyes stared straight into hers and didn`t even blinked. She decides that they speaks the truth.
“Erida`s horns!” She cursed savagely. “What is going on these days? Well, it seems that the spider threat is able to force you to look at your obligations with the necessary demureness! My bloody slave could not move past through you tonight, eh?”
“Well …” Kahtuularkth-Vallibkkul hesitates for a moment before to continue. “… he is still in your bed, my Mistress.”
“WHAT?!” She turns toward her bed and saw the lesser creature under the tester. She screamed full with hatred. “HOW COULD YOU? YOU ARE DEAD! BOTH OF YOU!”
“Why blame only them, since you alone wasn`t able even to see me?”
The slave`s voice came from the bed calm and reasonable.
“THEY … YOU …. AAAARGHHHH!”
“Put whoever you wish to guard your doors and you will find me here all the same. But if you want to know, I`ll tell you how my enemies never surprised me in my own yurt.”

“Go ahead, tell me.”
“Because my bodyguards were INSIDE my yurt, Mistress.”
“You mean …”
“They slept with me, under the same hides that I put over myself. It was warm and comfortable for all of us. Of course, all my bodyguards are females. But since you are female perhaps it will be enough if they just stand guard from the inner side of the door.”
“So no matter how you appear, they will see you instantly. Not bad, not bad indeed.” Qaggoth-Jeag notes the idea for further consideration. “You two – out.”
They disappeared as if with magic. She came closer to the lesser creature.
“Do not torture me any more! Speak! What the goddess said about me?”
“She said that you are a lying piece of dung.”
Qaggoth-Jeag`s curses shook the walls. Rambulhwa patiently wait until she stops to take a breath.

“Look at its good side, mistress.”
She almost cried.
“What good you can find here? She hates me!”
“I still like you.”
“I HATE YOU SO MUCH!!!”
“Thank you, mistress. In two days you will have your magic back. The day after tomorrow Erida herself will appear again on the main plaza and we must ensure that there will be a large crowd to see her.” He gave her a parchment. “These persons must be there too.“
“Oh, thank you my goddess, thank you so very much! Thank you, thank you, and thank you!”
Qaggoth-Jeag rotates around in joy, she almost started dancing with happiness. The slave came closer to her.
“And what about me?”
“Go fuc. yourself! I have no more need of you! Begone!”
“How very rude of you.” The impassive respond made her to look at him agan, but before she asks him something Ralmbulhwa continue. “I have a suggestion how you may improve your … non-existent status in her eyes.”

“What can I do? Tell me! I command you!”
“And what I will get from it?”
“You will live another day, you slave!”
“The contract is clear, mistress.” This time she heard the mock very well. “Unless I perform a betrayal to you, you can not harm me or those I care for. “A bargain struck is a bargain kept. Such is our way.” You often remind me that.”
“One day you`ll step in the wrong direction, and you`ll die in unspeakable agony, lesser creature!” She barely restrains herself. “What do you want?”
“A night with you will be enough.”
“Insolent … fine. You won. Now speak.”
“There is another nation, called “Barclay” across the large salted water. Warlike and constantly bragging that they are more military advanced than any other. I had reports that recently they discovered a new weapon that could change the war completely. We must destroy them immediately.”

“Why don`t we take their weapons?”
“You are the strongest being in the world now. What is the point to research weapons that could harm you? Imagine that every lesser creature in the world could arm itself with weapon that could kill you. How long you and your kind will rule the world? From the other side, if all nations of the world agree not to develop new kinds of weapons, you will remain superior forever.”
“I see.” Qaggoth-Jeag fell back on her bed. “Of course, some of them will break the contract soon or later and it will give me enough reason to invade them and to enslave them. And then again and again. Very well. Send orders to assemble the army. You have some ships ready, I hope?”
“And my reward?”
Evil smile appears on her face.
“But I didn`t said when, lesser creature! When the sun turns black and the trees starts to fly, when this palace turns to dust and the stones starts to speak then I`ll let you have your way with me! Now begone!”
For her surprise it just said calm.
“I understand.”

The little creature lock its kaftan, took its boots and stand as carved statue in front of her. It face was expressionless as of a dead man.
“I already sent an emissary to convince their emperor to sign the “No new weapons” contract. Of course, he will reject. Commander Boadice arranged an army of their mercenaries to sail for Veccavia where they will be captured or killed for us. Commander Forkanor arranged another army of theirs sails to us, where we will capture them. Another army of theirs led by commander Rufio Vincente already allied with me. So their emperor will remain with far less warriors than he thinks. Some time ago I sent messages to the free tribes of D`Shar and the last of their volunteers are expected tomorrow. When we arrive there, my strategists calculated that we will have the numbers on our side. The first of our fleets from the Snake Cult should be disembarked yesterday. When the emperor gather his remaining forces to repel them, second fleet of Vanserries will arrive just in time to conquer his capital and he will remain right under our two armies even before our arrival. The last years gave us time to train the young warriors. They are eager and ready to kill. The supply caravans arrive as we speak. The march must be fast and our victory decisive.”
“Finally! I was starting to thing that you are completely useless!”
“Helpful, my mistress.”
“Uh? What are you blabbering, slave?”
“I`m trying to be helpful to you, mistress. The tools are useful. The living persons are helpful. There is very important difference between both words.”
“You are just that – a tool. An item, if you want. And when you are no longer useful to me, I`ll dispose of you. Now leave me!”
Rambulhwa bow to her.
“As you command, mistress.”

Outside the two bodyguards turn toward him in an instant.
“What will happen with us?” They both spoke in one voice.
“From this night forward you will guard her from the inner side of her chamber, unless she has some company for the night.”
“We?” Kahtuularkth-Vallibkkul spoke with disbelieve. “So we will live? Are you sure?”
“Of course. You helped me, I`m helping you.”
“So she believed that we didn`t saw you to enter into her chamber?” Yullkogheem-Ralksmankle lowers herself to look into the lesser creature`s eyes. “For real?”
“You really didn`t saw me. She felt that you were telling her the truth.”
“Because we closes our eyes when you came closer, as you wanted!” She sighs with relief. “And she bites it! … Well, maybe you aren`t as bad as I thought.”
“I like you too, tough girl.” The lesser creature raises its tiny shoulders. “I feel that you and me will went together just fine.”

The end of all hope

Ernedar pat the neck of his horse a few time, but the animal continue to dither. He kicks his hips to ride forward on his route in the inner defense posts of the Barclay army. Cold wind touches his neck and his Hunter suddenly went mad and rush forward with all his strength. Ernedar desperately tries to hold himself in his saddle from the sudden madness of his stallion as the animal racing away from the war camp. Long arm with many fingers suddenly hold his neck from behind and lift him from the saddle. The irons tore apart on an instant and the Hunter continue its mad race. A hundred paces forward it saw a tight line of more familiar two-legged creatures. One of them throws a rope of the Hunter`s neck and pull it behind himself. By habit the horse followed the two-legged creature, for it knew that there will be water and food before another creature to ride it.
Markhanakrght drops the half-strangled human into the waiting hands of his slaves.
“It was the last one. Are the others ready?”
“Yes, Master.” Ilbaankht bow to him. “This creature was the last one from their night watchers.”
“Send the signal then.” Markhanakrght took his helmet.

Qaggoth-Jeag pointed to Ighttereneb and commands.
“Fire attack! Begin!”
Ighttereneb swing her banner left and right three times. Far ahead and considerably above the nine Baatetsu mages concentrated their magical power and sent the first fireballs toward the tightly guarded area near the center of the Barclay army camp where no torches light the night. The fire quickly catches amongst multiple caskets and barrels. Tiny figures of the lesser creatures under them began to scream in pain and terror, engulfed in flames. A thunder suddenly startled the mages and the demons quickly flyed even up above their enemies. The center of the enemy army camp suddenly turns into a flaming inferno and two of them continue to hit that part of the camp with fireballs while the others concentrates over the enemy horses. A few more fireballs and the terrified animals tore apart their ropes and fetterlocks and ran blindly in the camp, tramping everyone on their path or impaling itself over the weapon racks. Screams of pain fills the air.
Qaggoth-Jeag pointed toward her personal slave and issue an order.

“Lead the attack!”
“Yes, mistress.”
He put the helm over his lifeless face and climbs over his Demonic Charger. All his comrades went with him. While they rode toward the head of the horde, Bahtyhgrg asks with curiousity.
“Will you speak to your army before the attack? I heard that many of your kind did it before battle. To imrove their willingness to fight or because they love the sound of their own voice.”
“Such things happen only in the parchments. A practical male doesn`t do such things.” The lesser creature even giggles. “Only those very close to you will hear you anyway. I`m telling what is necessary to my commanders, they told their officers and they inform the common warriors. Their moral is not my concern. While they are in my warband and I say “kill”, they kill. When the battle is against us all that I need to say is: After me!”
“And not: Follow me!”?”
“There is a difference, Tenari. Those who went after you do it because they alone decide to do it. Too often any followers are forced to do so. I force no one to kill for me. They do it, because I convinced them to want to.”

They reached the head of the army and the Tenari warriors spreads in line along the human warlord. He raises his rusty-red polearm and issue a bloodthirsty howl.
“After me!”
As if the heavens fell down. A prolonged 60 000 voiced shout echoed his own and all the savages rode forward. Dark masses of horsemen galloped in attack with lowered spears, ready and willing to pierce and trample anyone on their path. Immediately from both flanks Riva and Ediz led the light cavalry of D`Shar and Singalians to encircle the camp. Fire arrows fell over the Barclay`s tents like falling stars. Sleepy, half-naked and unarmored soldiers ran away from the burning tents and then some horseman flyed next to them and left corpses behind. Men running in all directions and fell under spears and arrows. Over the still bleeding corpses in tight ranks the D`Shar Bladesmen, Blademasters and Warriors walked in onslaught, killing any unhappy Barclay man or woman on their path..
Hacking left and right over his monstrous Demonic Charger Rambulhwa suddenly stops and the rest ranked with him.
Thunderbolds echoes from the enemy and some warriors fell without any arrow or bolt into their bodies. Thick shields and armors protected others. From his high saddle Rambulhwa look over the enemy.

Most of their Conquistadors, Heavy Footmen and Sappers, along with a handful of warriors with steel helmets and leather armor wearing long sticks were gathered in a huge square formation forming shield wall with spears and pikes pointed toward them. All in all nearly half the number of the Barclay army. At their center over a low hill a golden-clad figure pointed forward. The ranks of the infantry separates and all the remaining Barclay Conquistadors rode forward, gaining speed.
There was nothing to be gained with waiting. Rambulhwa gave order and everyone still wearing some throwing spear throws it immediately at the enemy. Then he and the Tenari warriors issued powerful roar and kicks their Demonic Charges forward. The rest came after them with wild battle cries. The Conquistadors lowers their lances against them when from the above great winged creatures took them one after another right from their saddles. Their warhorses jumped in panic and run blindly over the tight mass of infantrymen. Rambulhwa kick his Demonic Charger forward along the rest and they cut in the enemy ranks with such strength that they moved over the first few ranks with impunity from swords and spears due to their powerful mounts and heavy armors. The Barclay warriors, unprepared to face such dreadful opponents screamed and died pushing each other. The first ranks, trying to retreat fell over the next, trying to support them. The other D`Shar used the wide penetration in the Barclay ranks and charged forward almost one over the other. The melee become thick and bloody.

When Rambulhwa hit the south side, warlord K`Juda led a large group of Battle Riders with Jatu Warbeasts against the west side. Step by step his enemies tightened their ranks but their spears and swords met theirs with dark determination. At this time, suffered attacks from all sides they already realized that their defeat was immenent, yet their discipline and courage didn`t allowed them to surrender without an emperor`s command.
Behind the Jatu Warbeasts riders the Kajahars draw their Noldor short bows and rain of arrows fell over the crowded enemies
Thunder sounds came from the enemy and some warriors fell without visible weapon to hit them. Rambulhwa roars and slew the next Sapper with skillful swing of his glaive that sliced through half of his face and spreads the nearest comrades of his with red drops. Another wave of Cobra and Anaconda Knights hit the enemy ranks from east, trampling over anyone on their way. With only one side left some of the Barclay tried to retreat north. Only to meet the Snake Cult Priestess, waiting for them with chains in their hands. Most of the Barclay soldiers who went this way were captured. The rest were massacred mercilessly. Just before the sun could touch the horizon the last warriors protecting the Barclay emperor were hacked to bloody pieced and trampled into unrecognizeable paste into the blood-soaked earth. When the first sunrays touch the field, the battle was already over.

“The torture quickly loosens some tongues and we already knew the place of their secret production site, Mistress. I`ve already dispatched my fastest horsemen to capture them, along with six of your mages. No hiding place can remain undiscovered from them.”
Surrounded from her court Qaggoth-Jeag spare a look over her personal slave. Riding the monstrous Demonic Charger and along with all his comrades riding their almost as powerful Netherworld Chargers it led the attack that broke the center of Barclay army. She alone saw how they broke the enemy, their enormous and heavily armored Chargers took and broke the pikes against them, crushing rank after rank of infantry, while their riders slashed any remained resistance.
Holding his helmet under his left armpit Rambulhwa continue with his report lifeless as any corpse on the battlefield.
“Every centimeter of their camp will be searched and all remains of their advanced weapons will be completely melted from your mages. Since it is possible that some soldiers are familiar with the method of its creation I suggest all captives to be executed immediately, along with all nobles captured in their towns. With their emperor captured, we may occupy their remaining towns while half of the fleet may sail back to bring the families of the warriors who will remain here.”

“NO! You can`t do that!”
She lazily turns her head aside to look at the captive. Dressed in elaborate half-plate from pure gold that left his shoulders bare, heavy golden bracelets on his arms, equally heavy golden sabatons on his legs, elaborate golden skirt and heavy crown the Barclay emperor step forward. Or at least tries to. Gaduilm hold him with two fingers between his right shoulder and the neck and press. With painful scream the lesser creature fell on his knee and the covered with enormous gems massive golden chain on his neck made a loud noise. His short golden hair encloses pale smooth face without a single scar and when he raises his head his long earrings with large sapphires waivered.
“Just watch me, lesser creature.” Qaggoth-Jeag didn`t even bother to cover her despise. All of these lesser creatures were nothing but trouble.
“AAAARGH! I`ll pay you …AAARGH! I`ll pay you ransom!”
“Ransom?” She spoke truly entertained and her court busted in laughter. “The demons do not use coins, like the lesser creatures.”

“What do you want then? Name your price and I`ll pay!”
“I want your lives, lesser creature. You can`t offer anything that I already have.”
“I, The Son of the Heavens – Eruald Harenis Merag Kalorga Duartes, Protector of the Seventeen Provinces, The Pillar That Hold the Barclay Empire, and Conqueror of the Nine Warlords will offer you the lives of one twentieth of my subjects for my freedom!”
Even Qaggoth-Jeag smiles lightly.
“The “empress” of these lesser creatures tries to offer me what is already mine!”
All demons busted in even louder laughter while the “empress” furiously tries to break free from Gaduilm`s grip, which only entertain the demonic court even more.
“You dare to insult my honor?! Then I will challenge you and I`ll wash it with your blood! Ruler against a ruler! If you win, I will submit to you and the whole country too. If I win, you will leave us forever!”
Baabakght-Yoktushergh dried his tears with small handkerchief and spoke to him.

“An inferior creatures as the humans have no right to challenge a Baatetsu Princess from the rulling Family. The very thought for it is laughable. You must fell on your knee and be grateful that your death will be swift and merciful.”
Qaggoth-Jeag`s eyes moved past the “empress” of Barclay and she called Hazzlit-Ilaar with one long talon.
“Did you sent my minions to collect all the captives?”
“Of course, my Mistress! I send them immediately after the battle stopped.”
“And the lesser creatures didn`t objected this time?”
“Not a word. But they had no time to do it and ...”
She took her decision.
“Sacrifice all captives immediately!”
“Yes, my Mistress!”
She releases her court and went toward her own tent. After a quick breakfast with one fresh corpse she retire for a short nap until Hazzlit-Ilaar awake her.

“Mistress! Something is going on! The priests refused to sacrifice all the slaves!”
“IMPOSSIBLE!” Qaggoth-Jeag jumps from her place.
“It is, child.” Baabakght-Yoktushergh bow to her and after her gesture sat over the nearest pillow. “You do remember the last appearance of our Goddess, yes? She was very clear, that the role of her priesthood is to uphold HER power, not to chase power of our own. The rules must be uphold, law and order must prevail over the crimes. You have the right over a tenth of the spoil and nothing more.”
The rage almost blinded her.
“Erida to refuses sacrifices? Don`t be ridiculous, Elder One!”
“I do not dare to sacrifice more lesser creatures than we alredy did. They do not belong to us and must be given to our warriors.”
“Fine! Take the captives from the other towns and sacrifice them!”
The Elder shook his large head and cross his hands over his red robe.
“Perhaps you haven`t payed attention, but they already provided some slaves, claiming that they are a tenth of their captives. I sent a few scouts to check the conquered towns. They are empty. Wherever these Snake Cultists moved, the local population vanishes.”

Her face darkened even more.
“What of the other part of our forces? The other … Vanery or whatever they are calling themselves?”
“Vanskerries.” The Elder One nods. “It crosses my mind to check them too. They are holding our tenth into the conquered towns and the rest they already sold to the Snake Cult. The captives we have from the battle here are the last Barclay creatures we have at hand. Besides them there is only a few villages that aren`t already massacred or looted to bone. This land is almost depleted from humans. If we took the last of their villages we will have no one to breed new subjects, to raise crops and so on. We have no use from barrent soil without any minions.”
“How many we have here?”
“Just about 36847.”
“From over 120 000! Impossible!”
“It is possible, child. They fought and died. Most of the captives are actually camp followers, servant and slaves, whores and conscripted villagers gathered from half the country when they retreated in front of our other two armies.”
“I thought that more of them will surrender! I will find who amongst my useless slaves is responsible for this and I`ll have his skin!”
The old demon sighed.
“Child, you led this campaign yourself, without appointing an army commander. But you have had no military experience so such mistakes are to be expected. There is no one else to blame but you.”
She rises.
“I know just whom to ask!”

Instructed aforetime Sharal and Sharaa didn`t stop Qaggoth-Jeag when she rush into Rambulhwa`s yurt. She found him just when he removed his Demonhide armor standing behind a large pile of soft hides. He bows to her with the same indifference he demonstrates to her since the night she took guards to stand watch from the inside of her chamber.
“Since the moment I enslaved you, you are nothing more than torn in my side, lesser creature! …”
“I removed the Benazi torn for you, actually.”
Infuriated, she didn`t even heard him and continue.
“… You constantly weakened my authority amongst my kind, who thinks that I grow too soft toward a lesser slave …”
“It isn`t their affair to know about our contract.”
“…  You dare to rob me of my due number of slaves, whom I need to offer to my goddess …”
“It was you those who try to cheat on every step, mistress.”
“… And now, on top of everything else, I`m learning last amongst all that this continent is almost depleted from population, losing nine from ten lesser creatures!“

“You were too busy to sacrifice anyone on your path to think about such “insignificant details”, as you called it yourself.”
She finally stops to catch her breath and gnarls.
“Are you trying to invent some acquittals out of thin air, miserable slave? I`m not in a merciful mood!”
The lesser creature bow to her without fear and spoke evenly.
“What are your orders, mistress?”
“I demand to surrender all your captives to me immediately!”
“That I can not do. Is there something else that you may wish, mistress?”
In the last moment she realizes what she was doing and the strike that was intended to cut off its little head just sliced its face. Blood splashes around when it gnarls in pain. Yet in just a few moments it stood still as stone while blood streaks down from its sliced chins, nose and mouth and sluices over its chest.

The pain pulsates through his head. Torn flesh revealed bleeding gaps into his jawls where his teeth were. Only his pride helped him to hold himself from shouting in pain but he was ready to die before to give her that pleasure. The pain fills his eyes with tears and they mixed with his blood dropping at his chest. Yet he manages to stay stiff as trunk and to look her in her eyes with visible calmness.
“I was too perfunctory toward your disrespect to my orders, lesser creature.” Qaggoth-Jeag lowers and put one long talon under the creature`s jawls. “And it seems that you took my initial malleability to your new situation for weakness.” Her talon pierces its skin. “Or maybe for some kind of affection.” Her talon creaks at bone. “But you failed to add something into our contract, little morcel. There is not a sinlge provision that forbid me to hurt you at my leisure. You WILL obey my every word by the way I desire, or your service will become REALLY painful.”
Her talon slowly moves aside. The lesser creature`s attempts to hold its painful screams made her to smile with delight. Another slight movement invokes a snarl.

“Oh, do that! Resist as long as you like! Don`t be stingy and let me enjoy myself!”
The little mouth opens and the creature made some unintelligible sounds. She lowers a bit more to hear.
“The cup!”
The creature`s right hand pointed toward a common wooden cup next to the pile of hides. With her long tails, Qaggoth-Jeag pushes it near. The slave took it and put in under its jaws. When it fills with blood it offers it to her with both hands and spoke with efforts. It took it a few attemps until she understood what it says.
“If you want my blood I`ll give it to you myself!”
“A good start, slave. Perhaps I`ll feast with part of your flesh too.”
She took the cup and drank it.
“Ah, just what I needed! Now, where was I?” She smiles. “Oh, yes! Some disciplinary …”
Qaggoth-Jeag stops amidst her sentence when the slave began to laugh and blood drops spreads all over her face.
“Can you feel it already, dear Mistress?”

Her eyes thinned with suspiciouness and she quickly recall its actions since she enters into the yurt. And then her blood froze in her veins.
“What was in the bowl I just drank?”
“For second time you are trying to rob us from our share of the spoil.” The little creature spoke slowly and vaguely due to its wound and with visible pain. “Do you really think that I will allow you to do it without consequences? That I can`t recite every word in our contract by memory? I gave you the opportunity to collect such amount of blood for your goddess! I gathered the warriors who won the victory for you! I led them into battle! What did you do to deserve bigger share than you already have?”
The lesser creature spills some blood over her armor.
“Nothing. You did nothing. Just like the last time you tried to take more than you should. I knew that you will try it again and I took some precautions. You will feel yourself weak, then you will feel yourself dizzy, then sleepy. And then … with the amount that you swallow … How long you will endure, I wonder! HAHAHAHA!”
“You poisoned me with your blood?” Qaggoth-Jeag smiles with relief. “Silly little creature! The poisons for your kind can not affect me!”

“And the poison that could affect you will not affect me.”
Her smile froze for a moment. When she spoke all the hilarity of her voice disappeared.
“I have the power of magic at my disposal, you fool! Even if …”
“… it is another goddess`s power involved?” Rambulhwa interrupt her and spill more blood before to continue. “I have two females who serve Azi Dahaka herself and they are enhanced with her power. Can you protect yourself from Her might?”
Her face turn pale and her other hand hold her own throat. She started to breath slightly more difficult and her face start to sweat.
“Erida … Erida Occisor will … protect me!”
“Against Azi`s poison? Are you sure, mistress?”
“I … I …” She felt herself weaker and sat over the hides, releasing the slave from her grip.
“You don`t know. It doesn`t happened before or at least you don`t know for such case.”
“I will ask her for help and you will suffer greatly for …”

“You will ask her for help? AHAHAHA!” The slave laughs gutturally.  She punished you for the first attempt to cheat me recently …” Rambulhwa laugh again although it was clear that it cost him great pain. “Please, do it! I want to see what she will do to you this time! HAHAHAHAHAHA!”
The yurt turned in front of her eyes but she shook her head to clear her vision and hold the small creature again.
“You must have the antidote! I will tear you piece by piece until you give it to me! And then your suffering will begin for real!”
“Dear mistress …” The slave whispers watching her intensively in her face. “How you will be sure that it is the antidote before you die?”
While she remain frozen he continue.
“You sweat already! Are you feeling yourself a bit dizzy too?”
She shook her head again.
“No! I`m just a bit weak but that is from the surprise, you traitorous little …”
“Really? It must be stronger than I thought since you are feeling weakness already!” His face turns into a worrying grimace. “Please, take your decision faster, mistress. You may not have a long time to think.”

She hold him stronger.
“You will die for this!”
Instead to beg her for mercy, the slave just spreads his hands and embrace her.
“Then we will die together! My bard will create a beautiful sad song how the delightsome demoness and the brave warlord died together in their last embrace!”
She pushes him back with strength.
“I don`t want to die with you! I don`t want to die at all!”
The lesser creature slowly rises on its feet.
“Then stop acting like a child and took some responsibility for your actions, mistress. Not everything could happen in accordance with your wishes.”
“Oh, Erida!” Qaggoth-Jeag cried with passion. “Help me!”

There was no one but the two of them, yet he bow and spoke slowly.
“You honor us with your presence, Divine One. Please, have a seat.”
Erida Occisor appears out of thin air right behind his back. With two steps of her long muscled legs she moves past him and sat over the pile of hides. Qaggoth-Jeag knelt and bow deeply to her.
“Divine One, this lowly slave poisoned me! Please, help me, I beg you!”
Erida`s face turn thoughtful when she put a finger under Jeag`s jaws and forced her to look her in the eyes.
“And why would it do such a thing, I wonder?”
The irony of her voice made Jeag to shiver. The goddess`s face slowly reflects her tone.
“Actually, I was merely sarcastic. There is nothing to wonder about you, little child. You tried to rob your minions from their slaves, don`t you?”
“But it …”

Erida`s grip strengthenes and Jeag moan in pain.
“I asked you a question, child. I didn`t asked for explanations!”
“I only tried to take them for you!”
The grip tightened even more.
“Did I ask you to rob my faithful followers?”
The slave bow to her.
“I beg you, Divine One, don`t hurt her.”
It was strange enough to hold her for a moment.
“She tried to rob you, tore your face apart, threatened you with torture and YOU beg me not to hurt her?!”
Pale smile curved the slave`s torn blooded lips.
“What can I say? I like her.”
“And if I demand your prisoners of war to release her?”

The lesser creature spoke with indifference.
“I had no intention to keep them for myself from the very beginning. I just kept them with the hope that you`ll offer me something for them.”
Erida`s eyes narrowes.
“Like what?”
Her eyes caught him and she gnarls.
“What are you thinking, slave? Speak!”
“You definitely don`t wants to know what I`m thinking right now, Divine One!”
Rambulhwa came to himself with his face in a pool of his own blood and one taloned leg pressing his head into it.
“Ah, you finally woke up!” The goddess`s voice was full with unpleasant hints when she pat the little slave`s shoulder with the tip of her tail. “I thought that you`ll tear apart your own throat with your screms, slave. Do you have something else to say, by chance?”
Amongst all its pain, the lesser creature manages to respond with hoarse whisper.

“I`m grateful to you for your generous gift, Divine One.”
“What? What gift?”
“Now I know that the Goddess of the Demons doesn`t wear a loincloth. Who else is in possession of such secret knowledge?”
Still kneeling in front of her, only Jeag saw Erida`s smile when she gnarls with obvious threat in her voice.
“Is that all you can say?”
“No.” A painful gasp came under her foot. “Now I know also that you really like to be on top!”
The foot disappears and the demon goddess spoke with normal voice.
“Get up.”
“I can`t.”
She gnarls with irritation.
“What is it now? What other secret knowledge you hope to obtain?”
“I`m not one of your children, not even a Tenari, Divine One. I barely have enough strength to breath.”
Bright flash followed his words and Rambulhwa suddenly felt his strength back. When he touches his mouth, all of his teeth were on place as if he was never wounded. He quickly rises on his feet.
“Now tell me what you want for your slaves.”

He slowly look over the goddess.
“More than you already gave me? Divine One, your generosity is great indeed!”
Despite herself, Erida felt that she smile at the shameless courage of the little creature that risks life and limbs under the constant threat of unimaginable torture. But when a wide smile appears of its tiny face she suddenly recall something and check her robe. The folds were on their place and the small creature`s smile become even more wide.
“You are incorrible little …”
Shoutings came from outside and another lesser creature done in heavy plate armor appears.
“Noyon! I need your help immediately! Tarhel is badly wounded!”
Rambulhwa bow deeply to Erida Occisor.
“Divine One, with your permission I must leave. I`ll sent Baidar to you with the feast he prepared for you. I gave you my word, you will not be disappointed!”
She made a gracious gesture.
“You may leave. I`ll call you tomorrow.”
He took a large wooden box with quite complex lock and left in haste.

When they reach the healer`s tents they found Tarhel on her blooded litter. Three crossbow bolts were clearly visible pierced her strange Doomguide armor. Small cuts over her arms and legs along with multiple scratches and dents over her armor pointed that she was in the thick of the battle.
“Kalnar said that she is a goner.” Forkanor spoke without any visible emotion. “Can you do something to help her?”
The warlord carefully cut off the upper parts of the bolts and Sharaf helped him to lift the breastplate and then cut the leather undergarment.
“You go.” Rambulhwa turns toward Forkanor. “I`ll call you when I`m done.”
“I can help!”
“Go. You don`t want to see her in pain.”
He nods and left. Tarhel bites her own lips to blood.
“The other healer said that I`m a goner. I know what does that mean. Just leave me, there are plenty others to heal.”

Rambulhwa pushes one bolt and she gnarls in pain. Then he opens his box, choose some paste and use it to cover the wounds.
“Did I gave you order to die?” He spoke calm.
“No, but …”
“You gave an oath when you came back in my warband. What did I asked from you?”
“What the …”
He pushes the bolt again and she screamed.
“To kill!”
“I can`t hear you.”
“TO KILL, YOU SOULLESS PIIIIIG!”
“What did you said?”
She screamed from the bottom of her lungs.
“TO KILL!”

With experienced hand the warlord rotate the first bolt slightly until it matches the pierced flesh and pull it out and then quickly cover the gap with clean bandage soacked in stinking liquid. She screamed in pain.
“AAAARGH! You are shi. of a healer!”
“What else did you swore to me?”
“To kill!”
“Whom?”
“You stinking rat! AAAAARGH! TO KILL WHOEVER YOU WISH, WHEREVER YOU WISH, AAAAAARGHT, YOU SICK PIECE OF AAAAAARGH, WHENEVER YOU WISH! TO KILL, TO KILL, TO KILL!”
“I`m not deaf, I can hear you.” Rambulhwa cleaned the wounds, cover them with thick balm and then took a large bandage and began to bind her torso. “I`m sorry, I did everything I could but …”
“I`ll die, right?” Tarhel spoke through clenched teeth. “I knew it! They shot me from too close distance!”
She took a hold of herself and uses her last breath to give her share to her best friend.

“Tell Hajag that she may have my share.”
Sharad snorted and lift her a bit to tighten the bandage.
“Don`t be so generous, girl. You`ll receive a lot.”
“What aaah good it will be when I`m dead?”
“And who said that you`ll die? You endure the pulling of the bolts so it seems that you`ll live.”
Tarhel stares at her.
“But he said that …”
“… he did everything he could. But you`ll remain with scars.”
“AARGH! You bas …” Tarhel saw the change of his expression and stop amidst the word. “Why did you do that?”
“Forkanor seems ready to ask you from your father. The pain from pulling the bolts was more dangerous to your life than the initial blood loss so he tried to anger you enough to endure it.”
Tarhel press her teeth together.

“But I thought …”
“Don`t try to guess that you know his thoughts. Just listen what he says and you`ll be fine.”
She was ready to say a few not very pleasant things but the lifeless expression of the warlord dissuades her. Instead she asks.
“How could you possibly guess that commander Forkanor may want me of all others?”
He snorted suddenly amused.
“Can`t you hear it?”
She tries her best but all that she could hear was …
“Somebody is honing a sword. And what of it?”
Sharaf giggles and her narrow face changes when she smiles. She carefully lifts the edge of the tent. They saw Forkanor himself, sitting about five paces away with his two-handed sword, whetstone in hand.
“He sits there, sharpening his large sword and looking spitefully anyone who dares to step closer to this tent. Even after battle with so many wounded, my warriors will think twice before to come closer right now. Even I will try to look for another healer instead to risk his ire right now.”

“But why?”
“He is taller, stronger, heavier, a bit faster than me and more skilled. He usually wins four of five from our sparrings. It is clear that he cares for you since he asked me to heal you. I suppose that he will ask you and right now you aren`t in condition to ran away from him. I`m so sorry.”
Sharaf laugh thunderously until she fell on the floor completely exhausted. Forkanor heard her and came in haste.
“How is she, Rambulhwa?”
“Too weak to run away from you, so I suppose it is a good time to ask her where her father is.”
Sharad spoke to him with a wink.
“Don`t miss the opportunity, oh tough one. Her horse is faster than you.”

Sharaf watches the small gathering. “I do wonder if anywhere else could be found such a wild bunch of savage torturers and merciless butchers.” She thought entertained, looking at the fat Kai Kojong, who dancing at the ugly music produced from the instruments of the crowded killers. She steps closer to Sharad who stood immobile, supporting her back on a nearby tree with wide angle of view to the area. Even now she was alert for intruders, as always.
“They are really terrible, don`t you think?” She asks with low voice.
Sharad didn`t move and continue to watch them with bored expression. Sharaf touches her shoulder.
“Are you all right?”
Sharad saw that her sister`s lips moved and put the makeshift earplugs from her ears.
“Did you say something?”
“Can`t you hear me? I was talking to you for some time!”
“Fortunately for me, no. With these earplugs I can barely hear anything.” Sharad spoke with true relief in her voice. “They are so bad that I want to take their instruments and to break it over their stupid heads until they stop with this … this cacophony! And their singing! I swear in Vata`s hooves that a bevy of crows will be more melodic than them!”

Sharaf nods in agreement with her older sister. For some time they continue watching them. And then Sharad spoke again.
“The younger brother doesn`t get any better with his drums, if you ask me.”
“Any better? I suppose that it is possible after all. After a thousand years or there somewhere he may become not impossible bad but just terrible bad.” Sharaf snorted contemptuously. “Nah, he is really hopeless in that. If you give him two maces he may actually catch the rhythm.”
“True. Do you intent to tell him?”
“And to ruin his only entertainment besides killing of brigands? Despite of what you may think of me, bigger sister, I`m not cruel one.”
“Then why you are still here?”
“I exchanged my shift with Sharam.”
Sharaf nods toward Kai Kojong who continue to dance swining his hands like eagle`s wings at the rough music.
“And I like him. He is a good dancer. You know what the people say about the good dancers.”
“Isn`t he a lot … well, fat for your taste?”
“I know a good way to melt his belly. Not that any of us can become pregnant anyway. If he is really good I may took him for my harem.”

They went silent when Sharas appears suddenly and went toward the warlord. Pale from fury she went right to him and hissed on his only ear.
“Did she torture you again?”
“Just a little. We argued about the captives again. I didn`t gave them to her and she tried to take it with force.”
Looking at the amount of blood over the front of his Demonhide armor it was clear that he refused to give even a single slave to his demonic mistress.
“And then she healed you with magic to conceal what she did to you, am I right?”
“I`m fine, really fine. See, it began with …”
“Prove it to me then!”
Some of the murderers sang wild tribal song with fast tempo. Rambulhwa`s metal boots brattles when he began with the training exercise. Fast stabs as if against sinlge opponent, then evasive movement, then slashings and backstrikes with the blunt part of the long glaive`s blade. Soon he began to change the positions one after another as fast as he could, the blade slices through the air with hissing sounds. His face tightenes in full concentration, he began to rotate the long weapon around himself faster and faster as if against multiple opponents, the armored gloves moved over the tough hilt with full confidance. Sharas starts to hit her sheat in tune with the song and Rambulhwa began to rotate his weapon left and right with all his strength and skills.

“Noyon!”
Xigger-Hanggai, a young sub-officer from Phundar tribe, came closer with two Barclay females. The older one looks about 35-40 years old with fine features, barely covered from bandage over her forehead and mature fugure, while the younger one, dressed in dirty torn remains of a gown, obviously wasn`t reached even her twenty. She wore thick and bloodied bandage over most of her left arm and supports herself heavily on the young D`Shar warrior. Despite her torn gown, dirty face and her wound her feminine advantages were barely covered and that didn`t remained unnoticed from the warriors around. Tears, born from fear or pain streaks down on her beautiful face, making traces over the dirt skin.
“Noyon, I`m asking for your permission to keep these two for myself.”
Sharas saw that Rambulhwas immediately returns to his ordinary demeanor, took a few deep breaths and asks with calm tone.
“You were suppose to guard the healer`s tents, arban-u.”
The young warrior barely separates his eyes from the young girl.
“They came to the healers for treatment. They tried to pass for foreigners, but I was lucky to catch them before anyone else. I`m claiming them as my part of the loot.”

Rambulhwa look at Sharas.
“Some limb for a start.”
In the next moment a throwing knife hit Xigger-Hanggai`s right arm and he stares in disbelieve the knife that pierces his flesh just under the armor`s sleeve. Rambulhwa spoke with calm voice.
“You left your post. Explain yourself.”
“I revealed them at the healer’s tents!” The young warrior stutters in sudden fear. “I captured them and brought them to you! Catching intruders deserve reward, not punishment!”
“You had to send them with some of your warriors, not to came here yourself. Who gave you permission to leave the healers?”
“Nobody.” The young sub-officer trembles. “But the war is over and we won! Nobody will attack them!”
“Did I declared the war for over?” Rambulhwa spoke to Sharas.
“No.” She said drawing another knife.
In the next moment Xigger-Hanggai gnarls in pain when the knife hit his left arm.
“I am Noyon of this horde and until I declare otherwise, the war isn`t over.”

Sharaf and Sharad came closer with weapons in hands. Sharaf smiles to Kai Kojong before to speak.
“They both have dress, torn enough to show their effeminancy, yet they still wore gloves. To cover calluses hands, I suppose. You brought assassins to your warlord, Xigger-Hanggai. Your father and your grandfather will be ashamed of you and your family will die because of your mistakes.”
The older woman swiftly took a pair of throwing knifes. In the next moment Sharal`s sabre slices deep into her legs from behind. She fell with terrible scream and then the sabre`s flat side hit her in her left temple. She fell again and this time moved no more. The young girl took a knife under her false bandage and with swift movement cut Xigger-Hanggai`s arm and then throw herself forward. Sharas calmly step forward. When the girl strikes at her with her blade she slices her wrist. Taking another knife under her torn gown the girl tries to hit her again with furious scream. Sharas gnarls and strikes so fast that she manages to cut the armed hand and to slice her legs from behind before the girl`s severed left arm to touch the ground, still holding the knife in dead grip. Blood from the severed arm spills over half of her face. Many jaws fell open when the merciless torturers behind her stare with awe at the display of her skills. With terrible scream the girl fell on the ground squirming in pain. Her sisters came forward, torn the two women`s clothes and dragged the unsuccessful assassins toward the nearest firepit to stop the bleeding.

“I haven`t finished with you!” Sharas pushes Hugsuun to the drums and raises her sabre in readiness.
“Play “Nair”!” She ordered with iron voice.
The covered with terrible scars from burning man look at her only once, took the place behind the drum and start to beat it in fast rhythm. The others followed with their morin-khuurs and Luughansu-Chek sang fast throat song.
Sharas attack with her usual aggressive style and her sabre reflected the midday`s sun with flurry of blows. He didn`t flinches and she slowly starts to move aside to put him against the sun. And yet soon she notices that he was too pithy for a man who has fought the whole night and was probably tortured the same morning. He manages to evade most of her strikes and parry the rest. His casual expressionless face looks more vivacious, with each met of their blades she thought that he may even smile. She presses him even harder, using her superior height and strength. In a moment he almost got her when he used his favourite trick to suddenly change a random hit from series of stabs into a slashing that could split her on half. Still at the end of the song they were on par.

When the song finishes they both stopped out of breath.
“You are even better when you are angry.” Rambulhwa bow to her.
“More likely as draw this time.” Sharas took a piece of cloth to clean her weapon. “Your “Windmill” slashes become better since you have weapon with blades on both ends.”
“And still you won.” Rambulhwa took a bandage and put it over a small scratch over the left side of his neck. “If I wasn`t fast enough it could have slice half my neck. I thank you for your lesson.”
His eyes holds at her face and she notice it.
“What is it?”
“You are beautiful!”
She blushes and her face turns red. His smiles froze and then he quickly moves aside to the fires.
Yorna helped him to tie the bandage and Malende gave him a cup with kumis to clear the foul taste. He thanked them with restrain.
“What should we do with the two assassins?”
“Interrogate them and when you finish with them cut off their tongues and sent them for sacrifice. If you could, forgive me that I`m forcing you again to do such things, but it is necessary to know if there are more of them.”

When he went into his yurt the first thing he did was to went to the pile of hides, put them aside and from the back side, almost to the leather wall of the yurt he reveal a wooden lid. He knocks twice.
“Sharab, it`s me. Come, it`s clear.”
She pushes aside the wooden plank and slips aside from the gap. Her eyes brightened when she shines against them.
“You have no idea what the two *****es did! They dragged all of us here to give enough time to their priests to make some big magic over the whole battlefield! The life of anyone killed here will enhance Erida`s power! Anyone! No matter friend or enemy!”
Her sisters gathered around her.
“What did they say about us?”
“Jeag thinking that the little brother poisoned her and Erida said that she can`t be sure that her power could overwhelm Azi`s poisonous touch.” Sharab giggles. “She sounded ready to shi. herself! The spoiled little princess cried and whine for help in fear for her miserable life!”

Sharal asks in haste.
“She tortured him! Did Erida say something about it?”
“He is her slave. She will not interfere.” Sharab saw her expression and spoke quickly.
“I suggest poisoning her for real if she tries again.”
Rambulhwa interrupt them before they could do something.
“I have another ide …”
“Maltise.”
“Sharaz, why I`m starting to think that you really knew some magic?”
She quickly pull his beard and slips away from his reach as when they were far younger.
“Because I can be the warlord you can`t, but I like you enough to allow you to pose around until I do all the real work."
Her sisters began to laugh but Rambulhwa`s face suddenly darkenes in deep consideration. Shortly Sharaz notices it and spoke with concern.

“Ah, don`t be afraid, little brother! I won`t do that really.”
“You can do it, I know that you’re more beautiful than me, but you`ll never be able to win any battle.”
Now her face changes in anger.
“Barely “more beautiful”?!?You son of a goat! Or you think that I can`t lead warriors in battle?”
He turn his stone face toward her and spoke earnestly and with most sincere tone.
“Oh, every man will follow your arse anywhere. But they will be too busy to ogle your arse and the enemy will kill all of them. There is no way to win any battle.”
The yurt busted again in laughter. Rambulhwa however look at them with perplexion.
“Did I say something funny?”
And seeing that he really thinks it, the female assassins laugh even stronger.
When Sharab manages to take a breath she whispers constrainedly.
“Now I know why you always insist to be the first! If we lead the horde you`ll stare our arses all the time and you`ll be killed before even to see the enemy!”

Qaggoth-Jeag exit from her spacious tent and waives to her guards to stop.
“I`m going to the latrines. Stay here.”
They bows respectfully.
“Yes, Mistress.”
She walks between the few tents of her personal minions and the yurts of the lesser creatures. Despite being just savages, the camp was well build, guarded and organized. The stench of horse shi.s reaches her nostrils and she tries to breath through her mouth. With her peripherial vision she saw a large armored figure coming from the latrines. The lesser creature was quite large, almost as large as herself. When it saw her, it bows deeply and froze. She raises her head feeling only despise toward all lesser creatures, but it wasn`t the place to insist for kneeling. The mace hit her stomach with such force that Qaggoth-Jeag lost her breath and fold in two in pain. Second strike fills her eyes with painful tears. The third strike hit the left side of her head, broke teeth and bones and she fell on the ground. The fourth strike broke her right elbow and she whimpers doddered to move. More strikes followed in precise order, just enough to inflict pain but not enough to kill her.

Qaggoth-Jeag felt her own urine to streaks down on her legs when the lesser creature hit her spine with enough strength to lose control over her own bladder.
Stunned, she felt that the creature grabs her tail and dragged toward the latrines. After a dozen or so paces they reached the edge of the large hole and the lesser creature stop. Qaggoth-Jeag saw more clearly the figure in pure black armor when it lowers toward her, took her broken arm and raises her to sit until she met face to face with pale face under tight black hair. It spokes.
“I am Maltise, Champion of the great goddess Azi Dahaka. I do believe that you know my husband, mate or whatever you flying bats calls it.”
Strike with one black armored gauntlet over her broken jaws fills Qaggoth-Jeag`s eyes with so many tears, that blurred her vision for a time. The creature continues.
“I don`t like what you are doing with my husband, you stinking batling. The bloody fool may fuc. your sagging tits and fat arse too much to kill you himself, but I don`t give a snake`s dung for your life, do you hear me, little baby bat?”

Qaggoth-Jeag wasn`t able to speak but when the creature hit her again she manages to produce some whining. Fortunately it took it for confirmation.
“Good. Since it seems that you have not a drop of common sense in this horned skull of yours, now we shall establish some ground rules, baby bat. You will not mess with my family and I`ll not drown you in those shi.s.  For now. Whine a bit to confirm your humble agreement, baby bat!”
Trembling in pain and for the first time in her four millenias in fear, Qaggoth-Jeag whines grievously. The creature holds her with ease and forcefully drags her head just above the edge of the latrines.
“I know that you`ll recover from these small wounds soon enough. The pain will fade and in time you`ll start to believe that you may live by the same way as before and to do whatever you wish with whoever you wish. So I`ll give you a small parting gift to remember me by.”
The creature relieves her and soon Qaggoth-Jeag heard and felt the urine all over her back through her torn blood soaked robe. Crying and whining in pain and humiliation, Qaggoth-Jeag didn`t even notice when the creature was gone.

When she awoke, the first thing she saw was the hated little slave, who treated her wounds in her own tent. The pain was overwhelming. The lesser creature tied her bandages completely impassively.
“Your regenerative abilities will do most of the work, I merely helped you against possible infections. With some rest and food you`ll recover completely soon enough, mistress.”
She wanted very much to order its executions, but unfortunately she manages only to whine for the moment. Her bodyguards steps closer.
“Don`t worry for her, she will recover completely. Give her some privacy, if you please, I must take care for her natural needs.”
Both bodyguards nods and went outside the yurt. Weak whisper came from the litter.
“Betrayer!” Qaggoth-Jeag`s words were barely a weak whisper. “I`ll kill you!”
“But you failed to add something into our contract, little princess. There is not a sinlge provision that forbid me to hurt you at my leisure.” The small creature spoke impassively without even to stop the treatment. “If you start to avoid holding your part of the bargain, the other side will do it too so you have no reason to comply. While you are laying here and heal, I strongly suggest doing some serious thinking about holding up your part of the bargain.”

The small hands continue to move over her, cleaning her wounds.
“Your servants and slaves are doing everything they could to save your skin and yet you alone put yourself in danger. No matter who your parents are you can`t live your whole life in their shadow. Have you ever thought why the big beauty Erida treatens you as a slave girl?”
She gnarls and he snorted with little amusement.
“Of course not, little princess. You whole life you were pampered and treated as some kind of special being while you are not. You haven`t had any achievements of notice and your first field mission almost got you killed. I understand that you`ve been given mostly young warriors for the invasion but still you`ve made too many mistakes.”
His face came so close that its thin lips almost touches her own.
“Taking the life of my faithful warriors isn`t a smart action from your side, mistress.”
Her eyes widened in shock. How was possible the lesser creature to know? There was a magic against evasdropping around the yurt!

“Yes, I know. They are lesser creatures just like me. But you forgot that I AM YOUR SLAVE, NOT THEM! They belong to another god! Did you even thought for a heartbeat that Vata will not know when you took the life of HIS followers for YOUR goddess? They are free people, who came on this war because I called them. Their life doesn`t belong to you so you can`t offer them to Erida! Do you understand the situation, oh my beautiful mistress?”
Even with her both hands broken she was capable to crush the lesser creature with her tail only. But before she could do it she felt two cold blades inside her body and she froze when her slave press his lips to her. Completely paralyzed she was unable to stop it. After some time the slave moves back.
“Don`t worry, this is only a warning. It will hurt but you will not die … today. I do wonder however, could Erida use you as a sacrificial dog to appease Vata, telling him that it was your idea all along?”
She tries to move but her body doesn`t obeyed her and her limbs remained immobile.

Rambulhwa enters into his own yurt and bows to the demon goddess. He found her sitting on the same place but this time she wore only a loose red robe. Her heavy tail moves back and forth over the hides.
“It is always a pleasure to see you, Divine One.”
“I`m sure of that.” She looks at the entrance. “I called Jeag too. Where is she?”
“In her bedroll in another yurt, Divine One. She is too tired to come right now, please forgive her. Perhaps I was too enthusiastic with her last night.”
“I command you to bring her immediately.”
“She isn`t your problem at the moment, Divine One. But when the other gods came looking for you … “ The little slave made a short pause before to continue. “Could we reach the ships before it happens?”
Erida didn`t gave even a hint for her turmoil.
“Is there a reason for you to run away?”
“After you took the life of so many of their followers who fought for you? Vata is quite evil-minded, just like any D`Shar. Vejovis is a predator. Qualis is a real dragon, if what the Noldor says is true. Indar likes to shoot in the back. Thalo …”

Erida strengthens herself for a moment but she saw that the slave notices it. She spoke with carefully expressionless voice.
“What are you talking about?”
“You do know very well what kind of magic was placed on the battlefield. To kill an enemy is nothing. To kill an ally is entirely different. The question is who was responsible for that. You? Jeag? Both?”
“You don`t know?”
“Not yet. But you will tell me. Was it Jeag?”
“Yes. She gave me the idea to do that.”
She notices that the lesser creature fell in thoughts. After some time she asked impatiently.
“What is it?”
“I may find a way for you out of this unpleasant situation.”
“Oh?” She raises an eyebrow. “And what could that be?”
“What will you give me?”

“Whatev...” She stopped and sighed heavily. “What do you want?”
“I want to ask you something. But you will tell me the truth.” Rambulhwa look at her impassively. “Not the half-truth that you told me just now, but the full truth.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Jeag gave you the idea but you didn`t refused, am I right, Divine One?”
Her face froze for a moment and then her breath exit throught her nose in forced calmness.
“Ask your question.”
“Does the human have a soul?”
Erida Occisor almost reaches for it before she stops herself.
“What do you think?”
“I think that we don`t have souls. I think that this is a lie that helps the gods to take whatever they decide to want from us.”
“Why are you asking me?”

“Vata refused to tell me. Azi Dahaka evaded my question. Vejovis laughed and said nothing.”
“What will you do if you learn the truth.”
“Nothing.”
The goddess took her decision.
“We do not call you you “lesser creatures” for nothing. Only Baatetsu and Tenari have “souls” in the meaning you consign. Some other creatures too but not the humans. You have no different life force than the animal you call “cat” and you keep as a pet. You are just an animal like any other.”
“Very well.” The lesser creature bows to her again. “When the other gods came to you, bow to them as to equals. Say that you were frightened and overeager to recover your power. Apologize and offer to make amends. You will owe them a favour but it is a normal thing. I do believe that they will understand and accept that.”
One of her lower arms made a small gesture and the lesser creature came closer. With her upper hands she holds him tight and kissed him. When she releases it, it fell breathless on the floor.
She watches with curiousity the lesser creature until it came to itself enough to rise on its trembling feet. From the hungry expression of its small face she understood that she already owns it.
“Well … since you put it that way … there are worse things than being a pet to such beautiful and generous goddess like you.”

Peace

The Benazi minion bow deeply and left. Hazzlit-Ilaar broke the seal and read the parchment aloud. When she finishes, Qaggoth-Jeag`s court busted when all her senior minions started to speak one over the other.
“He CAN`T be trusted!” Ballkthouth-Nalhoyuth shouts enraged. “He is their best strategist! This is a trap and nothing else!”
“Last time they killed FIVE of your very own bodyguards!” Kahohtiyt-Ahotywetg holds her sabre. “It was the seventh attempt to murder you!”
“They were banished from Benazi Family.” Qaggoth-Jeag spoke calm. “I had no reason to claim otherwise.”
Hazzlit-Ilaar looks around the hall and amongst the shouts, the accusation of betrayal and attempts of assassination and the exhortations for open assault over the Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey`s gathering she notices that the years of silent conflict started to bring fruits if even from the most hardened supporters of the peaceful solution. Peacekeepers like Ulahtdhalth-Hjauhhena to offer a straightforward assault of a negotiation meeting? She laughted internally but put her most serious expression while their mistress listened to every single opinion of her senior minions. When all but two minions spoke for armed assault Qaggoth-Jeag release them and remained alone with her and two of her personal slaves.
“I don`t like it, Ilaar.” Qaggoth-Jeag spoke with irritation. “It just doen`t feel right. Last moon they sent assassins, this moon peace offering. It doesn`t make sense!”

Gaduilm took the parchment and read it again before to speak.
“An invitation into the Queen`s palace must be safe enough for negotiations. Nobody will dare to try anything there. The Queen herself will eat his hearts if he dares to sneeze against her.”
It was just that, and yet Ilaar had bad feeling about the invitation. In her pride Jeag truly believed that Benazi`s assassination attempt were pointed toward her and her line of succession of Qaggoth Family. She however doesn`t forget that all attempts happened only when the little human creature was there, parading with his Demonhide armor, marching forth and back in front of important members of Benazi Family. The last attempt includes a mage and twenty six hardened warriors. The ambush was sudden and cruel and most of the bodyguards were killed before the support group could reach them. All attackers fought to death and all attempts to be resurrected failed. So they were left with a pile of corpses but no real proof that it was anything more than outcasts`s attack. Still it dedication was unquestionable and after whatever happened in Barclay it turns to a model of all slaves.

Of course, Ilaar notice that all of Jeag`s bed mates continue to fell dead like insects in fireball, but nothing could be proved that their death wasn`t accidental. She looks at it with the corner of an eye. Helm in one hand, weapon in the other, immobile as a statue and completely expressionless, it waited patiently for its mistress to speak to it. Finally Jeag spoke to it.
“How does it look to you? The arranged meeting, I mean.”
The slave spoke evenly.
“If my mistress can not be safe in the grand palace then nowhere could be safe for her.”
“True.” Jeag pat it over its shoulder and despite her light touch the smaller creature fell on its knee. “Ops, I constantly forgot how fragile your kind is. I`ll take two bodyguards with me. Now begone!”

Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey looks at princess Qaggoth-Jeag with some concern. She started to behave tipsy just after two goblets it gets even worse. Of course, her unartful posing was useless against someone far older and much more experienced than her Baatetsu. Does she really think that such old trick could work against him? He sighed soundlessly and made a sign to one of his personal slaves to fill her goblet again. The children in these days …
“So I do believe that this unnecessary bloodshed must stop. It brings nothing but loses for both our Families without anything substantial to be gained from it.”
Qaggoth-Jeag smiles at him and drank the whole goblet. When she spoke again her speech was even more unclear.
“Sur… whatev`r sweety! You`r su fun to pray wish! Am so tried to kill ya! Na, you trade to kill Jeag, hic!”
“Yes, now you are trying to add some stuttering! These children are truly clueless …” However on the way from his mind to his mouth the words changes considerably.”
“Your Highness, it seems that you may need a little fresh air. Will you be so kind to join me for a little walk, if you please?”
“Sweery, rigt now I`l shoin you wehefer yo wan, yo `new tat, hic?”

Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey rises and offers her his hand with a bow. His bodyguards step forward but he stopped them.
“The infirmary is just around the corner. You go first and look around and then wait nearby.”
The four Baatetsu exit and went toward a side corridor as if sent with some different task. At the next corner they moved toward the infirmary.
When they exit the chamber Jeag`s bodyguards turns toward them.
“She needs a little fresh air. We will be back shortly. You may wait here.”
Bharythh-Shaelkyth bows but refused with hard voice.
“Outside the meeting we will accompany our Mistress. We have our orders, my lord.”
“Fine, whatever. Just give us a few paces please?”
“Of course, my lord!”
Both bodyguards gave them five paces distance and followed with heavy steps of their armored boots, watching their mistress carefully, ready to jump forward if she fell amidst her unsteady walk. When Jeag and the Benazi lord moved behind the corner two thin blades pierced their necks. Strong hands hold their bodies and put them carefully over the cold stones.

Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey opens the infirmary`s door and with the corner of his eyes he notice some movement nearby. A quick glance showed to him a small creature with the sign of Qaggoth-Jeag and he invited her inside. When she moves her legs faltered under her and he hold her with both hands. The small creature came closer and tries to support her from the other side.
“Mistress? Are you all right?”
“Begone, lesser creature!” Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey tries to push it aside. “Do not dare to touch a Baatetsu without permission!”
The creature releases her and steps aside to his right side. A polearm blade sliced his right arm and stuck down in the bone of his wrist. Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey roars in pain and fury and Qaggoth-Jeag slips from his hands. He reaches for his assiliant grab his tiny hand at the hilt of its weapon before it manage to free it with his left palm and press with all his considerable strength. Bones crushes immediately under his might and the attacker roars in agony. In the next moment his tail hit him in the chest and the small creature flyes six paces back and fell. Qaggoth-Jeag starts to fell without his support and he tries to hold her but when he touch her with his wounded arm he roars in pain and was unable to hold her. She fell heavily on the ground and he knelt next to her.

“Your Highness? Are you hurt?”
She mumbles something intelligible. Sounds of heavy steps came closer and his bodyguards came running. Benazi-Nighatillyeg bows to him.
“Master? Are you all right?”
Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey left the princess. Drunk, or most probably pretending to be drunk to give her servant a moment of distraction for its attack she couldn`t attack him in front of his bodyguards. He went outside and holds the small creature with his strong arm. It struggles helplessly in his grip and hold his hand in a desperate attempt to free itself, its tiny fingers began to scratch at his arm.
“Now you will tell me why …”
The creature issues agonizing scream that echoes all over the corridor. At the nearest corner two Palace Guards moving onto their patrol route appears, turns toward them and seening the scene raised alarm and came closer.

Much more Palace Guards came running and brought the whole group in the grand hall even before he could manage to bind his wound. On their way he just torn a piece from his rich garment and press it over his own wrist.
Qaggoth-Shaal waives to Baabakght-Yoktushergh to wait and turns toward the incoming group.
“What is going on?”
Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey bows deeply, still holding his wounded arm.
“My Queen, this lesser creature dares to attack me! I demand its immediate execution! A slave to attack noble lord from Benazi Familiy in the middle of your palace! It is a humiliation beyoun anything I can imagine!”
The Queen raises an eyebrow.
“Why is that?”
“I have not the slightest idea, my Queen!”
Qaggoth-Shaar raises a hand to interrupt him.
“Bring it closer.”

One Palace Guard dragged the slave forward and removes its helm. Another presented her its weapon and she regonizes it instantly.
“This is Jeag`s childhood weapon and you are her personal slave. How could you dare to attack a Benazi lord in the middle of my palace, you miserable slave? Your torture will be …”
“MY torture?” The slave interrupts her and she stares in shock along all others. “A Benazi tries to assault daughter of yours a few paces away from you and MY torture is your only concern? What kind of mother you are?”
She reaches for it, hold its right arm into her grip and pull. The Palace Guard holds its body into her strong arms and the slave issues agonizing scream when its arm separates from its tiny body. Blood shorn around and spread the guard and even herself. She looks at the torn hand with surprise.
“IT LIES!” Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey shouts enraged. “This miserable slave imagines things to prolong its pathetic life! It …”
Qaggoth-Shaal looks at the small creature with interest. Strange diluted red-colored blood continues to flow in abundance from its shoulder and all too soon it head fell on its tiny chest.

Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug step closer.
“It seems that it is dying, my Queen.”
She looks at the priestess with surprise.
“It can`t be THAT fragile!”
The priestess raises her massive shoulders.
“Do you want it dead, my Queen?”
“Not before I can extract some answers.”
Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug glows with magical aura and she touches the slave. The flesh of its wound closes slowly. A little more of her power and the lesser creature`s eyes opens again.
Qaggoth-Shaal nods to the priestess and spoke to the slave.
“Now listen to me very carefully, slave, and answer my questions or this will be very painful to you! Why did you attack a Benazi lord in my palace?”

“No one is more deaf than those who doesn`t want to listen. I told you that already!”
She reaches to its other hand and presses its thumb with two fingers. With strange easiness its bones almost melted under her touch and the creature gnarls in pain.
“It is barely the beginning. SPEAK!”
“How many times I need to repeat myself?”
She presses another finger, making a small bloody pulp from it.
“SPEAK!”
“The Benazi scum assault Jeag, your own daughter! I saw it and I striked at him!”
“Ridiculous!” Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey erupts enraged. “I just led her into the infirmary when this slave appears and strikes at me without reason! This is just …”
“Why she needed your help to went into the infirmary?” Shaal`s eyes thinned. “Bring her here!”

Two Palace Guards brought Qaggoth-Jeag closer carrying her between them. The Queen examines her briefly and notices her condition. Jeag seems to hardly notice anything and only mutters something under her nose. She invited the priestess to examine her too. Shortly Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug finishes and spoke to Shaal`s ear, covering her mouth with one wide palm.
“She is almost dead drunk and drugged on top of that. It seems as “roohnol” to me. I don`t think that she will be able to recall anything from the last day or two when she came to herself. The alcohol was used to cover the typical taste, no doubt.”
Not a muscle moves on Shaal`s face and she just nod and invite the Benazi lord to explain the situation. When he finishes she thanked him and gave a few orders to her personal minions before to turn her attention back to the lesser slave.
“So you assaulted a Benazi lord, slave?”
“Yes.” Came the calm answer.
“Right in the middle of my own palace?”

“Yes.”
“While he tried to HELP my dauther?”
“No.”
“And you dare to …” She stops herself and her eyebrows came together. “What did you just said?”
“I said: “No”. He didn`t try to help her. Just the opposite, in fact.”
She tore another of its tiny fingers before to ask.
“And why do you say that?”
“He lured my mistress in your palace under the pretext of negotiations. I saw how he dragged her somewhere while she wasn`t able even to walk by herself. And when he dares to grope her I tried to cut off his stinking of betrayal arm!”
She tore another finger.
“You dare to oppose a Baatetsu lord? And …”
“Look at her!” The slave interrupts her for the second time and she gasped in shock. “She can not even talk! Where are her bodyguards? How she could be separate from them? What did he try to do to her? What I`m supposed to do in such situation except to kill the assailant?”

There were no more fingers on its remaining hand so she hold its palm and press it. It ealily broke and the slave shouts in pain.
“To attacks a lord? He says that he only wanted to help her?”
“Hahahaha!” The slave issues short laughter despite its visible pain. “Are you really expecting him to say: “Oh, Queen of all Baatetsu, I`m trying to overwhelm your entire Family and to kill all of you?”
“This is an outrage! I will not stay idle while a common slave dares to speak such noncence!”
Shaal presses the slave`s broken bones even harder. The creature struggles in her grip but manage to whisper with considerable efforts.
“Look at her thighs and see the truth!”
Shaal left the slave, went to her daughter and examine her more closely. Her rich robe was torn at the height of her thighs and Shaal opens Jeag`s robe to reveal her legs and five long, still bleeding scratches over her left thigh. She quckly check her other leg for other wounds but found none. And then froze.

When she turns toward her minions they made an unintentional step back at the sight of her face. At this very moment several more guards came in haste, dragging two half-naked Tenari slaves. They wimpers helplessly in their powerful grip and screamed in terror when they were thrown in front of the Queen herself.
“We found these two trying to slip out of the infirmary, my Queen.” Kaashelkth-Elbenhaadrught spoke with a low bow to her mistress.
“Speak, you worms! What were you hiding there?”
Shturgamasht fell on his knee and bow to the stone floor.
“We did nothing bad to anyone, oh Great and Merciful Queen! Please, spare us!”
“I asked you something, miserable slave! Speak only the truth or I will skin you alive and I`ll force you to dance for me after that!” She pushes the trembling slave with her boot. “What EXACTLY did you do there?”
The trembling slave screams in horror. When he spoke the words came with heavy stutter.
“I will admit everything! Everything! Have mercy, oh Great Queen of ours! Please, I beg you!”
“Speak, slave! Do not try my patience any longer!”

“I admit, I admit everything! It was me who seduced Baashikthuryr! I convinced her that the Higher Ones will feast for at least several candles and we could use the time for … ourselves! She didn`t want to come with me but I insisted that nobody will seek for us for some time! I forced her! Only I am to blame! Please, I beg you oh Great Queen, punish me however you wish, just spare her! She is innocent!”
“Ugh?” Qaggoth-Shaal blinks a few times in surprise, looking at the trembling slaves. Was that all the miserable creatures did? She spoke to the female.
“Why were you in the infirmary?”
“Oh, Mighty and Merciful Queen, I just went back with the last empty tray when I met Shturgamasht nearby the infirmary. I allowed him to convince me not to return right in the kitchen! When I tried the nearest door it was unlocked and we slipped inside before the next patrol to walk the corridor. But Shturgamasht didn`t forced me to do it. I went with him alone, by my own will.”

Shaal`s eyes rotates in annoyances at the pitiful story. At any other time she could have a good laugh at the terrified slaves who slips away for a bit of fun. Instead she wrinkles savagely and gnarls.
“Did you saw anyone while you were in the infirmary?”
“No, oh Great Queen! We saw nobody! We didn`t stole anything!”
“Nobody said that you stole anything!” Not that the two almost naked slaves had any place to hide something anyway. Then another thought came to her mind.
“Did you hear something while you were inside?”
“NOTHING!”
The answer came too quickly and she grabs the female with one hand and while she struggles for air her other hand glow with deadly magic.
“One lie and she will die in dreadful agony, lesser worm! Speak!”
The male slave`s eyes turn round and huge in terror and he spoke staring at her glowing hand.

“I heard some noise from the door and I embraced Baashikthuryr not to move. And then some voice said: “Mreedvaardu will be avenged!”. And then I heard strikes and shouting. I hold her until all all noises stopped and then we tried to sneak away but the patrol found us when we exit in the corridor!” Tears started to streaks down from the slave`s yes. “I know nothing more! I beg you, oh Queen, please …”
“LIES!” Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey tries to hold himself and to act calm. “It is such an obvious plot against me and my Family.”
“So my own kitchen slaves conspire against the Benazi Family? Oh, this is something new indeed!” Qaggoth-Shaal came closer to him. “My daughter is drugged at your feast, Benazi.”
“I will find the culpit! I will swear it to you!”
Qaggoth-Shaar looks at the priestess. She rises from the bodies of Jeag`s bodyguards and shook her head in negation. Resurrection was not possible.
“Her bodyguards are killed a few paces away from you and you know nothing about it?”
“I know nothing about their death!”
“And two of your own bodyguards had blood over their armors.”

“They try to examine my own wound when the Palace Guards came.”
“A-ha.” Qaggoth-Shaal nod in agreement. “And my daughter`s thigh bears some nails`s marks by accident, I suppose?”
Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey felt cold shivers and tries to speak calm and reasonable.
“Perhaps the slave hit her when it came closer. I would never dare to touch her without her permission!”
“We shall see.” Qaggoth-Shaal went to Jeag`s slave, removes its armored gauntlet and examine it. The fingerblades were razor-sharp but perfectly clean. The upper part has only a few red spots from the slave`s own blood and nothing more. She examine again Jeag`s wound and put the gauntlet over the scratches. The scratches were wider than the gauntlet`s fingerblades.
“The slave`s gauntlet is clear and the wounds doesn`t matches its fingerblades anyway. Baatetsu nails made it.”
“She may scratches herself by accident too. I didn`t touched any part of her except her hand when I supported her. I swear to you, my Queen!”
“But her nails are clear too. Only you have blood over your nails.”

Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey started to swell. It does not look very well for him indeed. Yet he did nothing wrong.
“Somebody else could do that too! The slaves admitted that they were there!”
A fast verification showed that the Tenari slave`s nails were also clear and no matches of Jeag`s scratches. Qaggoth-Shaal hold Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey`s arms and lift them toward her eyes.
“Only your nails are bloodied but you …”
Something into his sleeve attracts her attention and she puts her fingers into his sleeve. She touches some cloth and pulls it carefully. The crumpled cloth came out of the sleeve and Qaggoth-Shaal examine it closely.
“Is this yours, Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey?”
“No! I don`t know how it went there! I swear I didn`t put this cloth inside!”
Qaggoth-Shaal unfolded the crumpled cloth. It was smeary but she recognizes it with ease.
“A loincloth? Into your very own sleeve? And by some miracle my own daughter just misses exactly the same part of her clothes!”
Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey`s thoughts run wildly.

“THE SLAVE! The slave must have put it inside my sleeve when I tried to question it! It did it, I`m sure of it! My bodyguards were there already at that time!”
“By some strange accident all of them are members of your own Family too. How very conveniently!”
Qaggoth-Shaal took the slave`s severed arm and examined it. The bones were badly broken along the elbow joint. The size matches a Baatetsu hand. She raises the broken arm in front of his eyes.
“Are you telling me that a lesser creature will manage to pull my daughter`s loincloth with THAT wound and to put it inside YOUR sleeve without your notice, AFTER you alone broke its bones in SUCH A WAY? Lord Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey?”
“It killed Benazi-Mreedvaardu! It is completely capable to do such treachery!”
“AH!” Qaggoth-Shaal smiles. “We reached something!”
She turns toward the Palace Guards.
“Bring them inside and do not allow them to communicate with anyone!”

Qaggoth-Shaal enters the first room and Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey bow to her. The Elder One and the priestess came behind her.
“It seems that your Family holds a grudge against mine since the death of Benazi-Mreedvaardu. A prodigal son of your Family, destined for greatness, handsome, strong and capable of great things …”
“Yes, my Queen. He was just that.”
She notices that he didn`t objected the first part.
“So you`ve decided to kill Jeag.”
“What?! NO! No, no, no! My Queen, you saw the things under the wrong angle! Your daughter had nothing in common with all this. The wretched slave of her killed my relative! It parades around all members of my Family wearing his own skin as its armor! Even its helmet, boots and gauntlets are designed with maximum likeness of my late relative. It is a grave insult to my Family but it does that all the time for 738 years!”

“It seems so.” He really seemed sincere but she wasn`t ready to trust him entirely. “Yet various minor members of your Family or their minions seems to attempt to assassinate Jeag during the years.”
“Nobody would like to hurt the Princess, my Queen!” Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey shook his head in negation. “Although some overeager minions of my Family MAY attempt to deal with the wretched little thing! I can not be hold responsible for every single minion who may decide to act on his own.”
“But all of them failed and you decided to take the things into your own hands?”
He saw the trap just in time.
“NO! I would never act against your Family, my Queen! I do believe that it is the slave`s doing! It is just a slave after all! We enslaved its pathetic kind! It cares not to any of us and it’s naturally to desire our downfall!”
“Could be.” She looks at him carefully. “Do you want to say something else about the matter in hand? Anything?”
“I`m completely innocent, my Queen!
“Very well then.”

She went outside and enters in the next room. The slave was sitting quitely on the floor, relieved the crippled remains of its left hand in its lap and barely looks at her. The Palace Guard next to it bows. She spoke to it.
“It seems that you hold some grudge against Benazi family.”
“Me?” The slave didn`t move at all. “What for?”
“Benazi-Mreedvaardu attempt to kill you in the past.”
The slave didn`t waiver, but only struggle dismissively.
“A, this one. And what about him? I killed him, not the other way around so why should I hold some grudge? I`m glad I did killed him. Darn good armor they`ve made for me from his skin. If I knew that his skin is so good I`d kill him far earlier. Heh, it has been centuries since then.”
“How long, exactly?”
“I don`t remember exactly how many years. About seven centuries. Is another corpse that important?”
“You don`t remember exactly when a Baatetsu tried to kill you?”
“Many tried to kill me. Humans, Noldor, Tenari, Baatetsu … It came with the work. It does not matter. He was just another one in the line. All of them are dead now so who cares?”

The total indifference of the small creature didn`t eludes Qaggoth-Shaal`s attention.
“So you are not afraid that some Benazi may kill you?”
“A whole Family of demons wants me – a slave, dead? My fame will reach the sky very soon. Oh, well. One more or less does not matter.”
“You killed one of their own.”
“I`ve killed him, yes. The Mistress chooses him at that time to lead the Invasion for her. He failed. And then she appointed him for Her champion to fight me in duel. He failed again. I made a favour to your daughter taking his useless life. It happened that he wanted her dead.”
She hold herself and spoke evenly.
“Several other Benazi minions seem to attempt to assassinate your Mistress since that time. Or so I`ve heard. Is that true?”
“It happens every century or so. We kill them. They will try again. We will kill them again.”
Qaggoth-Shaal stops amidst her next word.

“Why … YOU KNOW?”
The small creature didn`t move and responds with the same indifference.
“Of course. All minions of our Mistress know. Her sisters know. Their minions know too. Please, don`t try to tell me that YOU don`t know.”
While the Queen thought over its words the Elder One asks.
“Do you hate our kind, slave?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Without Qaggoth-Jeag`s Invasion I wouldn`t be able to become her minion. And I`d be dead about 36 - 37 generations ago.”
“Perhaps.” The priestess interferes. “But you are a slave for centuries. You are in the presence of the Baatetsu Queen and you don`t show her the proper respect. Why?”

“Respect for Jeag`s mother I have. But right now the Queen is here with only a few of her own minions.” The slave spoke with tired, but equally indifferent voice and didn`t even bother itself to look at her. “After all Benazi`s attempts to assassinate my Mistress she still did nothing. So she does not care about it or even stay behind it. So why bother to show my respect, if I don`t know which person I will address right now?”
Qaggoth-Shaal made a gesture to them and spoke again.
“Are you innocent?”
“About what exactly?”
She stomped its right leg with her own. Bones crashes under her weight and the creature roars in pain and its strange red blood colored the carpet.
“I`m asking about today`s incident, you worm!”
“Then why did you stomp me instead to clarify then? Oh, well. No. Twice “No”. My mistake. I`m so sorry.”
“Your “sorry” will not save your thin neck, worm!”
“Just a moment, my Queen.” The Elder One asked with neutral tone. “You, slave! For what exactly you feel sorrow?”

“The years brought you wisdom, Elder One.” The slave bows to him slightly. “When I saw the pathetic cuckoid to grope my mistress I hit his arm first. I should have aim for the neck or for the groins.”
“You do realize that you hurt a high ranking lord of Baatetsu, no?”
“I already said that I`m sorry, Elder One. Yes, I should have killed him on the spot and to present his severed groping hands to my Mistress later, but what is done is done. When you release me I`ll find him. Maybe the Mistress will order the craftsmen to make another armor from his skin for me? I really love the stylish Demonplate armor.”
The three Baatetsu exit outside and went toward Shaal`s personal chamber. She invited them to sit and fell deeply in her thoughts. After some time she spoke to the priestess.
“Tell me what you think for Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey.”
Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug collect her thoughts and began.
“He does seem mostly sincere. But his schemes are always more complicated than it looks on the surface. He was the main force behind the growing power of his Family. Yet it doesn`t seem likely to attack a Princess under your very nose. From the other side he may already predicted how it look like and to bet over that we will think that he will think that we will think that he thought over it.”

Glad you are still here  vorador

I thank you for your kind words, dear Sir. The whole story is based entirely on your, and the other Developers work. My inspirations however suffered and I feel that I must end this story soon.

Trial

Baabakght-Yoktushergh sat more comfortably and reconsiders the whole situation once more. Weighting the words of the both suspected persons he spoke slowly.
“One of them lies and one of them says the truth. That much is clear. But as always I will ask only one question to you: Who will benefit from that?”
Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug was truly annoyed and didn’t try to cover it.
“For Erida`s sake! What a pathetic slave could possibly won … NO! It isn’t possible! One slave-warrior to accuse a true Baatetsu Lord!? Who will possibly even look at such possibility?”
The third minion, Ganyllkuhhtik-Sllambgtyrkt, cough to attract their attention.
“No matter who did what, it is highly suspiciousness that my guards found them so late. It means only that one of them, or both, are familiar with the patrol routes. The interval to walk around without some Royal Guard to notice is too short to be just a coincidence.
“The guard captain has a point here.” The Elder One bow to her slightly.

“And it isn`t just that.” The enormous female spoke impassively. “His Excellency seems quite agitated over the death of one small and insignificant member of their Family. Killed in honorable duel on top of that. When you questioned him, he didn`t rejected that his Family hold grudge against your when he confirmed the many qualities of his “perfect” relative.”
“He was distracted and irritated from the attack, no doubt.” The palace priestess was also confused from the guard commander`s attitude. “Do you know something about His Excellency that you would like to share?”
Even if she notice her sarcasm, Ganyllkuhhtik-Sllambgtyrkt didn`t allow it to be seen in her pose or tone.
“I have some recollections of a Benazi Elder, trying to accuse a Qaggoth Princess of failure and murder of another Benazi noble. And it turns out a baseless accusation. Their Family wasn`t punished then and it seems to me that they grew bolder.” She slowly turns her heavy head against the priestess and spoke with noticeable colder tone. “Unless you can believe that someone may sacrifice a mage with light hand in order to kill … just one lesser creature.”
“Benazi-Mreedvaardu was a son of his own sister! It is only natural for any Lord to protect his siblings! The priestess was outraged. “Nobody cares of another slave!”

“Exactly!”
“What?!? What are you talking about?! Are you accusing a Lord too?”
“I`m accusing nobody, but I don`t forget that two trained bodyguards of a Princess are killed 17 meters away from the Main Chamber`s door and nobody notices it! And they can not be resurrected which means that High Master of the Arcane Arts is involved. Benazi Family has such person while Qaggoth-Jeag does not …”
“Ridiculous! With the conquest of Pendor she came into possession of tens of thousands minions! She may have one such Master in her household without our knowledge!”
“Not likely.” The Elder One reaches for one bowl and pour it himself. “The lesser creatures there are totally UnGifted. There is not a single “heman” creature with a slightest spark of magic into it. Nobody, even our settlers there, ever reported for even a single such case since the first day of the Invasion up to now. And all of them are just property of our Queen`s Family.”
“It is “human” they are calling itself! You don`t have reports but if someone is in hiding?”
“Hamun, hunam, who care?” The Elder One took himself a morsel and swallows it with delight. “They breed like insects but they are short-lived too. Fifty years is already old age for their lesser kind. Less than one of a thousand may reach a hundred years of age and even then they can barely walk with crutches or even on litters. So it is safe to ignore such assumption.”
“Princess Jeag has magic abilities also!”

“Not even close. Her talent isn`t particularly strong and it will require a long time of training and discipline before she is able to do it.”
Qaggoth-Shaal nods in agreement and her wide wings shifted when she tries to find more comfortable position over her bench.
“So what if the slave arranged it. Either alone or by Jeag`s order?”
“It is quite possible! The slaves can not be trusted! Let me sacrifice it, oh my Queen! And we may finish with this unpleasant thing before any lesser slave to get some ideas that they may attempt to hurt a Baatetsu!”
Ganyllkuhhtik-Sllambgtyrkt disagrees immediately.
“Even the slaves have their places into our community. Those amongst them, chosen for personal slaves are highly skilled and often treasured almost as pets from their Masters. Those of them entrusted with the right to bear weapons in their Masters presence also are fully trusted as bodyguards too. Many are taken as auxiliary into our army and proved themselves on the battlefield. Of course, some slaves rebel here and there and we sacrifice them, but the personal slaves have many privileges and they aren`t willing to risk their positions.”

“So it is possible Jeag to drug herself as an arrangement of a distraction to create an opening for her slave to kill the Benazi Lord?”
“I do not believe in that, my Queen.” The commander of her guards bow deeply. “Her slave is too fragile and powerless to be a threat to any Baatetsu. It would have only one chance due to the sheer surprise and then it will be mutilated. And yet it hit the Lord`s hand, not the neck or the groins when it would have chance to mortal strike. Its weapon isn`t enhanced and nothing found in it has any residual effect from such powerful magic that could prevent resurrection.”
The priestess was shocked beyond words. When she finally spoke, her mouth barely pronounced the words.
“You can`t possibly suggest …”
“What I said was a statement. It is our Queen the one who decides what is right or wrong. Anyway, let’s wait a day or two until Qaggoth-Jeag is capable to speak for herself.” Ganyllkuhhtik-Sllambgtyrkt crosses her muscles arms and look at the priestess with respectful expression. “Unless your magic is capable to heal drugs too.”
“You know very well that the magic heals the flesh, not other substances into it!”

“Fine, fine.” Qaggoth-Shaal took her decision. “I will wait for a bit. You are dismissed.”
After they left the Queen put her back on the engraved shade behind her and spoke with low voice.
“Are you there?”
Equally quite voice came behind her back.
“Yes, my Queen.”
“What can you tell me about Jeag and her quarrel with Benazi Family?”
Covered from the massive engraved shade the master of her assassins respond.
“The first reports of a possible conflicts are from about the time of Benazi-Mreedvaardu`s death. There is a high probability that your daughter had an affair with him at that time. However he had similar affairs with at least one other female Baatetsu at that time. Nearga-Reun is particularly vocal about him, describing him as her “bond-mate”. I won`t be surprised if another female is involved too.”
The Queen hisses with anger.

“The simpleton is a simpleton! What she imagine isn`t relevant!”
“Also, a number of Benazi`s most capable minions and some of their lesser Family members has been found dead or disappeared ever since. The Princess personally issued orders for at least fifty-seven executions against Benazi Family. Her household also suffered thirteen casualties and a number of her bodyguards and lesser minions. Also they suspects Benazi and their allies involvement into the death of Princess Jeag`s mates in several occasions.”
“Any proof?”
“Nothing.”
“Anything else?”
“A source of mine inside Jeag`s senior minions says that when Benazi`s letter for negotiations came, most of them offered a straightforward assault in respond. All of them were expected an ambush.”
“Not without reason, as I see. But enough for now. Sent my daughter to me when she is capable to speak.”
“Yes, my Queen!”

The main chamber of the grand palace was full with the demon court members. Wearing light robe the Queen sat over her favorite engraved bench and her expression was as hard as her horns. Her three eyes moved over the gathered lords and ladies of the demonic realm.
“Today I summoned all of you here to hear my verdict about the incident into my own palace between my thirteenth daughter Qaggoth-Jeag and Lord Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey. I found Lord Benazi-Olkahhsyhtmetyhey guilty of several crimes agains Qaggoth-Jeag: using drug against her, attempt to rape her, murder of two personal bodyguards of her and damaging her private property.”
The bloodied, tortured and beaten figure, hanging as dead meat between two large Palace Guards manages to raise its head and spoke with weak voice.
“I`m innocent!”
Magic aura surrounds the demonic Queen and mystic ropes of magica hold the Benazi lord and he screamed in agony.
“I found HER loincloth into YOUR very sleeve and you dare to reject your guilt, you KREETEKH! YOU tried to rape her and to take a trophy from it!”
Her voice turns higher and higher and the nearest demons made a step back when their Queen waives to the Palace Guards to release the prisoner.
“I will sacrifice you to Erida right now!

Looking at the disgusting scene in front of his ancient eyes Benazi-Amaunnalior suddenly notices that he stood alone. At the first line in Qaggoth-Shaal`s court none of the other Elder Ones stood close to him. The nearest one, the head of Taakhshirmhaa Family, who was his ally for about 54 200 years now stood stiff and immobile at least five paces away, staring at the laughable trial. And he was the closest one for not a single Lord or Lady of any Family was even near. So many of them were indebted to him for various favors during the millennia of mutual beneficial work and today he stood completely alone, as if he was contagiously sick. Somebody gnarls with low voice behind him.
“A shame, my lord.”
“Indeed. At least one Baatetsu in this hall have strong enough spine to say the obvious.”
“And yet we are alone, you and me, amongst a whole crowd, bound by honor and loyalty.”
Benazi-Amaunnalior nods in agreement. Loyalty and honor. Both qualifications were so prized when nothing threatened the speaker, and yet so rare when the shadow of the oblivion hanged over the speaker`s horns. At least one of his presumably many old friends and allies was still at his side in this dark moment and it brought a bit of comfort into his old hearts. Unable to separates his eyes from Qaggoth-Shaal`s parody of a trial he barely found the strength to whisper.

“I can not believe that my son did it.”
The low voice responds full with absolute confidence
“I know, my lord. He is well known for his cunning to do something so obvious.”
“He is, isn`t he?”
“Indeed.” The voice snorted in agreement before to add. “So cunning that he cut himself this time. I do wonder however, what kind of armor they will make for me from his skin.”
For a brief moment Benazi-Amaunnalior froze and then turns toward his collocutor. When he saw the mocking grin of lesser creature blood veil clouded his vision and he holds it into unbreakable grip with one hand and put his long and sharp as daggers nails under its thin throat. The entire creature waivers wildly into his powerful hands, while the Elder Baatetsu
“YOU!?! I`ll kill …”
“Benazi-Amaunnalior!” Qaggoth-Shaal saw him and shouts an order. “Do not move!”

He didn`t heard her in his frenzy. And then the lesser creature`s head fell down onto his fingers and one long and sharp nail pierces its throat. Startled, Benazi-Amaunnalior releases the lesser creature. Blood spouts from the torn throat and spreads all over its simple kaftan. The blood flows over the large embroidered of its chest symbol of its mistress. Most of the demonic court saw how the lesser creature wearing the sign of Qaggoth-Jeag waivers toward the Queen, interwoven its legs in pre-death agony until it fell almost over her own boots, splashing her robe with its diluted red blood.
Ganyllkuhhtik-Sllambgtyrkt shouts orders and the Palace Guards dragged the frenzied Benazi-Amaunnalior toward the Queen and forced him to kneel in front of her.
“Benazi-Amaunnalior!” She roars in frenzy. “YOU dare to disobey ME!?!
“NO! No, my Queen! It isn`t that!” Benazi-Amaunnalior spoke in haste. “This lesser creature …”
“I gave you a command, and you ignored me!”
The entire demonic court didn`t dare to move a finger while she glow with arcane power.
“You ignored MY order in the main chamber of MY palace, in front of MY entire court!”

“It was the creature who …”
The blast of magical power left him Silenced and he could only open his mouth but no sound came out of it. In the next moment Qaggoth-Shaal`s tail hit him in the face sprawling him on the floor.
“Benazi-Amaunnalior! Your disobedience can not be tolerated! I am depriving you of your rank, of your Family, of your position and of your properties!”
She turns toward the Royal Guard.
“Bring this wretched scum in my chamber and do not let him out of your sight!” They dragged him away and Qaggoth-Shaal spares a brief look at the face of the slave. Strangely, but in its death it little face wasn`t changed from the expressionless demeanor it kept all the time. She kicked it toward the palace priestess.
“Bring it back on its feet and drag it to my chamber. Jeag, come with me!”
She stormed toward her private chamber and the entire court bow deeply to her.

Sitting in the silence of her private chamber surround from her personal advisers Qaggoth-Shaal raises an eyebrow when the slave bow deeply to her.
“This slave greets the Queen Mother.”
“So now I`m the “Queen Mother”, eh lesser creature? Get up.” Qaggoth-Shaal looks at the slave carefully. Pale and weak from the recent resurrection it stood completely calm and its expression didn`t change at all, giving not the slightest hint of fear.
“You provoked a High Lord of Baatetsu. That alone is enough for immense torture and sacrificial death. But because you are a private property I am willing to ask if you have something to say.”
“The old cheater tried to silence me in front of your entire court, Queen.”
Not a muscle moved on its face and the Queen`s eyes thinned.
“Explain yourself.”
“I learned why Amaunnalior is trying to dispose of my mistress so desperately. Mreedvaardu, the Baatetsu who tried to overwhelm my mistress`s position in Pendor, was his son.”
The presented Baatetsu stares at it, jaws almost hitting the floor.

“It is a serious accusation, slave!” Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug presses her teeth together. “You`ve become an example for all slaves but I will not tolerate any highhandedness.”
“Amaunnalior`s personal secretary is ready to testify for that and to show you the parchment from his Family archives that the old lover boy had an illegal child. The bastar. was Mreedvaardu. You may figure for yourself why Amaunnalior was so desperate with his attempts for assassination, so after Mreedvaadu`s failure and the following failures of the lesser ranking assassins he instructed another son of his to sent even a mage too, despite the fact that all mages must serve the Queen first and foremost.”
“All mages are accountable, slave! You lie!”
“The mage was a commoner, trained from Benazi`s High Master of the Arcane. She was not a Benazi herself, so she was … expendable for him.”
After some thoughtful silence Baabakght-Yoktushergh spoke to the slave.
“We thought that the mage amongst Qaggoth-Jeag`s attackers escaped, but you are saying that she was amongst the slain?”
“Yes, Elder One.”

The secretary was dragged inside. When he knelt, all noticed the lines of deep sadness over his face.
“Speak you name.”
The knelt Benazi minion responds half-heartedly without even a slightest concern that he stood in the presence of the Queen.
“My name is Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht. I`m Lord Benazi- Amaunnalior`s personal secretary.”
Qaggoth-Shaal notices his behavior in an instant. She could almost taste his desperation. Not that it could have helped him in the trial.
“Why you decided to betray your own Master?”
The secretary responds with lifeless tone.
“He … he acted openly against you, oh Queen. All his warrior and assassin minions failed to kill princess Qaggoth-Jeag who killed his son, Benazi-Mreedvaardu. While they were only warriors and assassins such attempts are acceptable. But in his anger he decided to send his secret assassin, a mage named –Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha. She was a commoner with the Gift, discovered on very young age from his servants. He took her and entrusted the High Master of his Family to train her in secret. It was a high-risk move but it brought him quite an advantage. The Lord believed that Princess Qaggoth-Jeag isn`t developed her arcane power enough to be an equal opponent to her. And he was right.”

“They why your ambush didn`t succeeded?”
The lesser ranked Baatetsu spoke without even to look at the Queen.
“We didn`t knew that she has two of Brotmhesh`s Family mages into her retinue, dressed as common bodyguards. Lord Brotmhesh-Ilmenekkad must have given to her some of his best apprentices. The poor Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha hold herself longer than anyone could have anticipated … but in the end … she …” Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht`s head fell even lower onto his chest before he found enough strength to continue. “She almost did it even against such odds. But they were better trained and their combined arcane might was too much for her and she … she … she died.”
“And how did you decide to come to me?”
“I did not.” Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht responds with deaf voice looking at the floor. “While I prayed in the Temple this slave here came to me and convinced me to speak with you, Queen.”
“So, so …” Mocking smile curves Qaggoth-Shaal`s lips and she spoke with equally mocking voice. “Your Master sent your bed-mate on a suicide mission and you jumped at the opportunity to betray him.”

She grins and started to watch the slave with a corner of her eye.
“What did it offered to you in exchange for your betrayal, Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht? Riches? Lands? A promotion perhaps?”
For the first time Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht rises his head and his bottomless despair become visible even to her.
“I`ve never spoke with Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha, except when I conveyed to her the orders of our Master. I`ve never touched her. But you are right for the rest, Queen.”
He look her right in the eyes and spoke with endless sadness.
“It really offered me something.”
“Oh?” Qaggoth-Shaal lowers herself toward the male. “This must be interesting. What was it?”
“Death.”
“Huh?”
“The slave offered me death, Queen. I was unable to do it myself, but it promised me that it will kill me with its own hands in the day when Benazi-Amaunnalior is executed.”
In the heavy silence Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug was the first to speak.

“What arrogance from a common slave! It dares to act as if it knows that a high lord of Baatetsu may or may not be punished! I may tear off your stupid head, lesser creature!”
“Damage done of private property is equal crime as an attack of its owner.” The slave spoke with indifference. “By the law my mistress have the right to demand Amaunnalior`s execution here and now.”
“And she cares so much for YOU that Princess Jeag WILL does that for you?” The priestess laughter echoes the chamber. But then Jeag made a step forward.
“By the law I, Jeag, Princess of Qaggoth Family, demand punishment for the damage done to my personal property against Amaunnalior, former high lord of Benazi Family.” She looks at the stunned priestess with cold gaze. “I can not ignore such open attack toward me! The law must be upheld! Punishment must fell upon the guilty person.”
“But it is a meager lesser creature! It worth next to nothing! How can you demand a high lord`s execution for such an insignificant act?”

“The order is an order. Ignore it once, and others will decide that they may go unpunished. Such is the way of life. It does not matter WHO is the slave, all that matter is WHAT it is – MY property!”
“This is ridiculous! Surely Amaunnalior could provide you other slaves to compensate you for that creature!”
Despite the open possibility Qaggoth-Jeag refuse to accept the simple solution.
“I presented my position to the Queen and I will bow to her will.”
Such submission was too far away from Jeag`s common behavior and Qaggoth-Shaar rises an eyebrow toward Baabakght-Yoktushergh.
“There is a simpler solution, if someone is executed for damaging a private property, albeit not a common one. From another side an execution for attempt for assassination of a Royal Princess or open disobedience of Her Majesty is much more serious matter.” The Elder One wrinkles dissatisfied but continue nevertheless. “I advise you to accept the lesser reason for punishment.”

Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug sat back with relief.
“And what punishment you suggest for damaging one insignificant part of cheap property?”
“Death.”
“You can`t be serious!” Infuriated, Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug jumps on her feet. “
“My Queen, I too asked some questions around. It seems that this particular creature is given plenty of privileges from your daughter and surely it poor head suffered from unreasonable imagination of its own value. But surely YOU can not value a simple lesser creature THAT much!”
“You are not the person to decide what the Queen can or can not do, Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug. Do you prefer to beat the drums that someone may disobey our Queen? Even more so in front of the ENTIRE her court? Open, and even more, a public disobedience is equal to a rebellion. If the Queen punishes him for a rebellion, she would be forced to take actions against his entire Family! What if they rebel? What if their allies and minions rebel too?”

In spite of her agitation Baabakght-Yoktushergh spoke evenly with calm and reasonable voice.
“Now he is demoted to a commoner. So a death penalty for damaging some property of the Princess will not stir too much the dejection. The other Benazi will be busy with the replacements of their hierarchy and they MUST BE grateful if the Queen decides not to punish their entire Family. If we don`t act on full alert, summon the army etc. I don`t believe that they will rebel.”
That statement made her to silence for a time. When she spoke, her voice was cold and dispassionate.
“My Queen, I would advise against such dangerous act. In all cases a Baatetsu is worth immeasurably more than any lesser creature. Especially one so reckless and snotty enough to wear armor made from Benazi skin in front of a Benazi lord.”
Ganyllkuhhtik-Sllambgtyrkt presses her teeth until it creaked.
“It isn`t a crime by itself! It won it in fair combat in front of many witnesses. It only proof the Princess`s ability to choose the most capable slaves in her retinue. And it isn’t the only warrior permitted to wear Demonhide armor.”
Heshtytchyryth-Yoormenshug shrug and her three eyes thinned when she spoke with casual tone.
“Someone could think that the Princess is overly attached to that particular slave either!”
“And you are so jealous that I can care even about it while nobody cares for you …” Qaggoth-Jeag spills mockingly.
“Enough!” Qaggoth-Shaal raised her hand. “Jeag, do you have something else to say?”
“No, my Queen.” Qaggoth-Jeag bows. “Please, forgive me that I said the truth.”

Recruitment and persuasion

Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht waited patiently. His mind was recalling all the precious few meetings with Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha. He was able to revive all her precious few words in his mind, every single change of her confidant expression, her regal deportment, so full with pride of her arcane might and her considerable skills. The way she fold her magnificent wings was still so vivid in his thoughts and he had the impression that he could almost touch her.
Knock on the door interrupts his daydreaming and he spoke.
“Come in.” “As if I had some choice here.” He thought dark.
Hazzlit-Ilaar came with light step and bow slightly.
“Will you join us for dinner?”
“There is no point to waste good food or drink for a dead meat.”
“If you were done a crime, I`d be the first to agree with you. But you helped us a lot and we will not forget it. Come.”
“I`m sorry.” He said with low voice. His only wish was to spent what little time he still had alive with his memories. “I feel no need for supper.”
Hazzlit-Ilaar drops the hook.
“Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha will be there too. I thought that you may want to spent some time with us.”
He was already on his feet before he could speak.
“I`m starving.”

The small service room was given to Jeag`s slaves and the three large Baatetsu barely had enough space to sit along with one Tenari and one slave of the lesser creatures. Hazzlit-Illar put the magical barriers and sigh with relief.
“At last! We can speak freely, at least for half a candle time. More will make them nervous.”
Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha didn`t reach for the food despite her weakness.
“I won`t touch any food of Qaggoth anyway! I refuse to take any of your poisons! Don`t bother yourself with sweet talk! I won`t betray my Master!”
Gaduilm drank some shookt before to speak.
“You were nothing more than another blade into your master`s arm. But I won`t bother to persuade you. There is another person here that you know. Perhaps you will be willing to listen at least to him.”
“So it was you the lesser creature that betrayed us?” Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha spit on the floor. “I should have known better than put any trust into your wretched self! What did they promised to you for your betrayal, you pathetic scum? Don`t you have at least enough brain to know that if you are willing to betray your own master they will be afraid that you will betray them too? You won`t leave this place alive, you pathetic moron!”

“I know that I will not leave this place alive. But you will and that is all that matters to me.”
Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha`s eyes thinned.
“What are you talking about?”
“The contract I signed with them was simple: Benazi-Amaunnalior dies and you will live. You will walk free and unharmed by any way from the Queen`s palace. They assured me that you`ll receive an assignment in a place you alone choose for yourself.”
She spit once more, this time right into his face.
“And for THAT you betrayed our Master?!?” She was truly outraged but had no illusions that the slightest attempt for violence would be her doom. “You have no honor! You are lesser that a worm`s shadow to me!”
He took her rage without flinching.
“Our Master had his own plans and you were just a minor pawn inside one of them. You and I were just items for him, resources if you like. Merely tools he used into his own plans, ready to dispose when he had no more use from us.”

“I don`t believe a word of your lies, betrayer!”
“You were trained murderer for him, ready to give your life at his will.” Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht took a bowl and drank a bit. “Have you ever thought that attacking a Princess from the royal Family is a High Treason?”
“I do not question our Master`s Orders! I serve and obey and you should have done the same!”
“Commendable, but with Master like yours I`d be more careful.” Gaduilm spoke with mocking grin and equally mocking tone. “Acting against Qaggoth Family? Even you can not be so stupid to act without some thinking over it?”
“What you – a miserable slave could know about the plans of the Higher Beings?”
“I know enough to know that even if you succeed you would have been killed to cover your master`s trail in his plot against Qaggoth.” Gaduilm laugh in her face. “Open your eyes, sunshine, the tools are useful but when you finish with them you dispose of them, you don`t keep them.”
“It is true.” Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht sighed again. “You know that the Master often called you “My most precious item”.”
“I am loyal! I will not become a betrayal!”

“How much your loyalty is worth when your Master has none toward you?” The last member of their gathering spoke with tired voice. “You honor yourself with your loyalty but it is misplaced. He is not worthy of it. Swear your allegiance toward Qaggoth-Jeag and you will receive a pardon for your crimes.”
For the first time the sorceress look at the smallest creature into the room. Even dressed in torn and ragged Demonhide armor it was clear that it was high-ranking slave.
“I won`t betray my Master, slave! Nothing is capable to force me to do it.”
“Me, Gaduilm and Hazzlit-Ilaar are fully capable to force you to do it. But it isn`t necessary. Your precious Master will be executed tomorrow. And then Benazi Family will turn on itself. We can offer to you an honorable exit from the doomed Family and a more worthy mistress to serve. Isn`t that good enough for you?”
“No!” Came the proud answer. “I will serve the next Benazi Elder!”
“There will be none.” The small creature sighed behind its faceplate. “We arranged your Master`s downfall and we will ensure that Benazi Family will not recover at all. In the best possible outcome what remains from all Benazi will bow before Qaggoth-Jeag.”

Both Benazi minions stare openly with the display of such ultimate indifference toward such crime against such powerful Family. Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht came to himself first.
“HOW?!”
“A few amongst the Royal Guards came from Families that … aren`t on the best terms with Benazi.” Hazzlit-Illar smiles and continues to feed slowly with visible pleasure. “I know most of them. They killed two of the Princess`s guards and helped us to put the blame over the Benazi.”
“I arranged two of the palace`s slaves to be found in the proper place and to testify what I instructed them.” Gaduilm spoke with visible satisfaction. “They risked their lives but it was worth it. The fact that they went into the infirmary AFTER all Benazi were taken away from the Palace Guards will remain unnoticed.”
“And I slashed only the hand of your precious strategist instead to kill him. I just didn`t wanted him dead just there. Now, since I manage to put my mistress`s loincloth into his very own sleeve nothing will convince the Queen that he didn`t tried to rape her daughter. His nails accidently scratched Jeag`s thighs after I sliced his hand and that was just a beneficial for us accident.”

Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht quickly reaches the next conclusion.
“So you provoked our Master to harm you!”
“It wasn`t that hard. A person too accustomed to obedience could be provoked with relative ease. He manages to stop himself in time before to tear me on two but nevertheless I manage to impale myself over his nail. The Queen and her Court saw how he “killed” me with their own eyes. But damaging a Princess`s personal property is a crime, punishable with death. That is the law. So your master is as good as dead.”
“See? Can you understand now? Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha, I beg you, submit yourself to Qaggoth-Jeag and live!”
Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht fully understood that at this point it was completely useless to resist. Not that anyone would have trust them anyway. But Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha boiled him with disgusting sight again before to speak.
“So the wretched things conspired against our Master? What will stop me to reveal your devious plat to the Queen myself?”
Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht`s blood turn froze.

“The Queen`s priestess tried to resurrect you and the warriors sent to assassinate her daughter. She failed. Yet these servants here somehow managed to do it. Be grateful for your life! Most probably you won`t reach the door alive if you try to escape. And even if you somehow did it, who will believe you – the one who tried to assassinate a royal Princess? They will torture you by unimaginable ways for such betrayal no matter if your participation was willing or not!”

“No!” Even after all that Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha still stood proud and refuses to give up. “I will remain loyal to the end. If that mean my death, so be it!”
Gaduilm`s features twisted in mocking grimace.
“Do you have the slightest idea what we did to bring you back after you were killed still enchanted with spell to prevent resurrection?”
She didn`t responds and Hazzlit-Ilaar adds.
“Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht fell to his knee in front of us and crawl in our feet to beg your life. Your life, not his own. He offered everything that he had, including his own life for a single boon – YOUR life. Is that mean nothing to you too?”
“He means nothing to me. My life belongs to my Master alone.”
“But when your Master dies what you will do further?” Hazzlit-Ilaar asks calm between two bites. “You were brought back to life with the single goal to serve our Mistress. There is no chance for you to run away. I will ask you once more: What you want to do with your life after your Master die and Benazi Family is no more?”

“I will …”
“Why did you put all these efforts to bring her back?” Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht interrupts her quickly before the prude mage ruin the situation even worse for her than it already was. “What do you need her for?”
Ilaar`s wings shifted slightly when she casually choose another morsel and explained as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“We spoke … well, we argued a lot about it actually.” She waives a hand dismissively. “In the end these slaves here overwhelmed my willingness to throw her at the Edali-spiders with the argument that some things like honor, loyalty and talents can not be purchased. Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha possesses all of it and I saw too that she will be able to help our Mistress much more effective as her court mage alive instead to decorate her personal chamber with her preserved head.”
“Your words sound so honorable, but I can see that you are trying to purchase me for your Mistress! It won`t work!”
“To purchase you? From whom” Gaduilm laughed in her face. “Sunshine, I can force you to lick my tail and to thank me for my great mercy if I care to do it. But we don`t want you dead. We want you to become one of us – Qaggoth-Jeag`s personal servants and slaves. We want to serve our Mistress together, and through her, to Qaggoth-Shaa, may she rule forever.”

“You want my arcane abilities at your disposal.” Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha spit at him and hit his face. “Since the first time I felt the burning touch of the Gift, everybody wants it to be at their disposal! Don`t try to persuade me otherwise!”
“The Gift is strong in you.” Hazzlit-Ilaar admits it with envy. “I often dreamed to be a powerful mage myself. But it is impossible. You are born with the gift or not. I hate to admit it, but your Gift is more powerful than our Mistress`s. We`d like to have you on our side very much indeed. Such powerful Gift is rare and it will be a shame to let you die just like that.”
“You want me to exchange one Master with another. But it won`t work.”
“You can not exchange a corpse for a living Princess.” The smallest creature spoke tiredly. “We wish you to serve our Mistress with the same diligence and perseverance as you served the traitor Amaunnalior. You can help us a lot and none of us will deny it. And for that we will petition the Queen to grant you pardon for your attempt to kill her daughter and to be accepted for junior member of Qaggoth Family. And your own Family – Vlaaskhyr, will receive an invitation to become a vassal Family of Qaggoth-Jeag herself. I know that this is considered for honor not only for yourself but also for your entire family.”
Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht pushes her with one elbow in the ribs and nods a few times to encourage her to accept, yet Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha spit in the faceplate of the small creature with the same despise.

“No! I will not serve tyrants as Qaggoth!”
“For Erida`s own horns just shut up already!” Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht moaned in despair and bow to the floor. “Please, don`t mind her! She must be confused a lot after her recent death, I beg you to forgive her!”
Gaduilm smiles at him and sip himself another goblet.
“We are alone here so no harm`s done. Don`t worry about it.”
“You are so weak and pathetic bunch of losers and slaves! None of you can compare with the Greatness of Benazi-Amaunnalior!” She spits again completely fearless. “Do whatever you wish with me! I will not betray him!”
“The dead has no greatness. They just rot and they are forgotten.” The smallest creature dried her saliva from his faceplate with one torn sleeve. “But I have no desire to force you. If you reconsider your … statement, you know where to find us. You may go.”
“Hah, as if your assassins behind the door will let me walks outside alive!”

“What other assassins?”
Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha opens the door toward the corridor and point with one taloned finger outside, still looking at her captors. They look back to her with curiosity. Hazzlit-Illar bites another morsel.
“Yes?”
Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha turns back only to see the empty corridor.
“What does that mean? Are they outside these quarters?”
“Outside are only the Palace Guards.” Gaduilm throw her a golden plate engraved with Qaggoth-Jeag`s symbol. “Since you are declared a traitor to Qaggoth Family this will serve you as a pass wherever you decide to go. Off you go!”
Still unable to believe on her own ears Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha rises on her feet when the smallest slave spoke.
“Perhaps Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht would like to accompany you to the outer gates of the palace? You will send her on her way free as we agreed in our contract.”

He bows with gratitude and both Baatetsu left together. After they were outside Jeag`s quarters and could not possibly hear them, Hazzlit-Illar asks with great concern.
“Are you sure, completely sure that she will join us? She is really powerful, any Family will be glad to take her!”
Rambulhwa laughs cheerfully.
“She is a free female, just as we agreed. She may go wherever she wish and to do whatever she desire and not us, not any of our minions, allies or supporters will try to do her any harm as long as she doesn`t act against Qaggoth Family. Such was the price to receive Mighhyarha-Saarbuukht`s help and we shall honor our contract with him. He will send her on her way and he will return to us for his own execution.”
“She is dangerous, can`t you see it?” Hazzlit-Illar spoke irritated from the slave`s mirth. “She almost surpass TWO other well trained and powerful mages, can`t you understand what harm she could bring to us? How stupid you must be to release a powerful enemy alive?”

“Hahahahahaha …” Rambulhwa clearly enjoyed the situation. “My dear friend, we agreed to release her alive and unharmed. Nothing else.”
Hazzlit-Ilaar`s eyes thinned and she looks more carefully at the slave.
“What does that mean?”
“Exactly what I said, my dear. Be at ease, soon you will understand.”
After he left Ilaar look at the Tenari slave.
“I still can not believe that you both talked me to do it. It will be a disaster and we all will lose our heads! She is very powerful, how could you possibly let her live!”
Gaduilm giggles and she froze in shock.
“We know his … weakness, no?”
Her face twisted in mix of despise, anger and annoyance.

“You mean his lust for our Mistress? I can not say that it is particularly discreet about it.” She issues a tired, very tired sigh. “Quite the opposite, actually. All our minions know it and most of them started to believe that it somehow … entertain the Mistress since she allow that to a common slave, even to a personal property.”
He winks at her and she presses her teeth together at his liberal behavior.
“So what is the probability HE let her live if she was truly a threat to our Mistress, eh?”
“None.” She said without any consideration and stops when her ears kicked her brain. “You are saying …”
“Exactly!” Gaduilm giggles again. “You do remember what he did to Benazi-Tyutuerke, right? And she only spoke against the Mistress because her senior Benazi-Kaaghraathn told her to provoke us.”
“The Mistress ordered our Tenari to question her and then to execute her.” Ilaar`s face reflects her quandary. “I heard that she disappears after that.”
Gaduilm shook his horned head in negation.

“She didn`t simply disappear. He gave order to skin her alive and to put her in abattoir. She becomes food for our Demonic Chargers and her skin becomes armor for one of his companions.”
Hazzlit-Ilaar laugh and he adds.
“I heard some rumors amongst the other slaves that he actually grilled part of her flesh and ate it. While she was still alive and he forced her to watch.”
Bitter bile burned Ilaar`s throat but she nod to him, even if a little paler.
“I understand you. Vlaaskhyr-Ulashiiyagha will not be a problem.”
