We are not talking only about the flashiest, most important things, such as warriors, weapons or impressive architecture: in order to be realistic, a 3D world needs to take care of its smallest details. 3D modellers do exactly that: they work like sculptors, giving shape to their imagination to create and populate the worlds we will “live” in when we play. In this week’s blog we talk with 3D modeller Ümit Singil, who takes care of such things – but being one of the most veteran members of the TaleWorlds team, he has a history of doing a good number of different tasks for the Mount & Blade games.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/36

Really nice blog post.

I might be naive but producing correct looking mini castles, towns and villages to represent them on the campaign map sounds to me like final touches.

Regarding the empire though, as it's the oldest faction and original occupants of the land it'd be preferable to see better contructed roads in their territory, or at least outside of main towns/castles instead of just gravel paths.

I am sure he is much more than "Morale Officer"!

These two screenshots are in the blog!

Nice. Judging by the second screen you can see the building being gradually built and not just appear from nowhere when it's finished.

I think sunor isn’t in the screenshot
It literally is, same location of view, even rivers around city is same. Just check the map.

it’s probably Uxhall from Warband.
There was no Uxhall / OksHall in Bannerlord map before, you may want to google it.

Uxkhal may be a village/castle not a town which is why it didn’t show up.
The map does seem to have changed a lot recently, villages have changed around sunor which is why I thought it couldn’t be.

That is the same surrounding river around the city, same mountains next to it, same geolocation. You may feel like a lazy to check it, unfortunately i don't feel like i need to prove anything that obvious. You are more than welcome to believe that i am wrong. Cheers.

I like the way the settlement names are displayed, it is an improvement over the old way in my opinion.

Sunor's name changed into Oks Hall
Uxhal no ?

Aha! I had not noticed the connection at first, but yes I think you are right! I like that logic.

Callum, can we have an update on the Arena? How is that going to work in BL and how will it tie into faction influence, town rep and all that? Will winning a tournament open doors for the player?

Yawn, I just realised I’ve argued with you before.

I really like the faction symbols being shown on the lift of the settlement banners, and you're right - the game looks beautiful. My only slight criticism is that the settlement banners could be more in theme with the medieval inspired world, but, again, I love the faction symbols.

Keep up the hard work, it looks bloody amazing!

Do you even read the steam comments? No one likes this posts, and no one cares. Again, stuid post abount nothing important. Where is another mission in multiplayer, where is abother video, who cares about poly count!? The hell is this?

This whole thing and question seems so fake, like as if no one asks anything, oh wait, NO ONE CARES. This game when releases, will be a huge dissapointment. This whole posts already are a huge dissapointment.

I care about poly counts. I asked and Ümit was kind enough to answer. It’s useful information for any modders preparing models in preparation for Bannerlords eventual release.

In Warband, system resources limited native armour models to 1,000 to 2,200 polygons. In Bannerlord, they’re able to increase that level of sculptural detail to approx. 500% to 600% of a Warband model and massively increase the number of participants in battle.

You might even be able to import old warband models into a Bannerlord custom battle for five times the number of participants that Bannerlord is targeting.

Taleworlds, you really need to put more effort in names. I have noticed some of the city names sound too generic or stupid and it also extends further to character names. I saw the Battanian leader is called ''Caladog''. Do you expect me to take seriously anyone with 'dog' in his name?

Agreed who would have thought names in Warband would be better than the next title lol... .

I dont know why they changed names from Warband, I dont care if its ''uuuuuugh its 200 years back they had different names''. Well maybe yes, but Sargot, Pravend, Sunor sound like **** compared to Sargoth, Praven and Suno. But ''Caladog'' is the epitome of a bad name in my opinion, not to mention the memes that will come out with a **** doggo on his head when the game comes out (If it comes out).

I'm pretty sure Mendog (Mindaugas) would like a word or two with you for saying such things.

Mindaugas or even Mindaug sounds better than **** Mendog, dude.

There are cities in Greece that have the same name for more than 3000 years. So their argument isn't that legit.

There are lots of examples of place names changing over time in Europe, that is obviously the inspiration for the different spellings and I like it. Besides which, I'd like to know which Greek cities have had no changes in the spelling of their names- Athens was not spelt the same way by the ancient Greeks as the modern Greek spelling, which in turn is not quite the same as Athens, the English spelling.

guys developers, im sure you dont see that message, but i want to say that old map (what we can see on gamescom 2015 https://youtu.be/ZpkrdMAyCmo?t=2m56s), are better than you publish on this blog (almost old, and that are sure better). maybe before u see message's yaga comrade, and i agree with them, global map need more detail like clouds, birds flying somewhere etc..
i hope u read that messgae (sorry for my english) and do something.

That city changed name due to conquest by a very different culture. However for the most part, cities in say europe, change spelling from language to language, but the name is mostly the same.

The blog only included one still photo. It was clearly taken at a higher angle than a players normal perspective to give a panoramic view. They were showing off a vista, not a tight focus, which means that we are probably seeing LODs for a number of elements.

Mostly, but some interesting exceptions.

Londinium → Lundenwic → London
Duroliponte (Roman) → Grantebrycge (9th) → Cantabrigia (16th) → Cambridge
Eboracum/Eburacum → Eoforwic (7th century) → Jórvík (c.866) → York
Colonia Patricia → Corduba → Qurtuba → Córdoba
Colonia Iulia Romula → Hispalis → Isbilia → Seville (Sevilla)
Olisipo → Al-Usbuna → Lisbon (Lisboa)

that is part of the point. Places change names all the time as it changed hands over and over again, and I used one famous example as that just happens to be the capital of the real life inspiration to the game fantasy empire. And the list didn't even include the names BEFORE the greeks started a colony there.

places also changed names because reasons. Maybe the new king wanted to name it after himself. Or his horse. Or his third wife. Or they changed religion. Or ... include reasons here.

TLDR: places change names for different reasons. Before you all go crazy on that maybe you want to read the lore behind it

yes, on screenshot we can see more more than video, but fact is color gamma has discolored, static banners (rly? in game named as bannerlord?), such people write about details (where? nothing change after 2 years), and that shadows.. need to show the good side of the game and i do not agree with what i see. at the moment the map looks empty and uninteresting, and i see no reason to continue this dialogue.
