My thought is that when someone references the barter system as the baseline for our advanced diplomacy system, a barter system that was mentioned one time 3 years ago, is that maybe this system isn't on the table anymore, and we shouldn't pretend like it is.

As the someone concerned, I’d like to point out that over the intervening period Armagan has continued in his interviews to reference the player’s ability to negotiate deals. If I remember correctly, he also discussed in the siege videos how deals could be struck to lift a siege by offering another fief etc. Any diplomactic deal the player wants to offer needs a mechanism to determine if it is acceptable to the other ai party concerned. How do you suppose they will manage to provide any form of advanced diplomacy system if they have scrapped the mechanism that’s fundamental to its operation in game?

THANK YOU! I knew we were shown the barter screen in video the moment this discussion started, but couldn't for my life remember where it was!

Arguably, Gamescom video from 2016 isn't much better than a blog from year earlier, but this bothered me to no end

Thanks for the link, hopefully that will quell some doubts.

It does quell some doubts. Hopefully we see a diplomacy blog soon showcasing the system with the awesome new UI they've created.

That would be good, especially if they show how it interfaces with the influence system to offer clan or faction resources, which aren't ours to give away.

I agree completely, I'm currently extremely confused towards what is in the game and what isn't... So much scattered information all over that it has rendered me completely clueless regarding diplomacy...

Yeah, I think a blog about features that are in the game (honestly, similar to the post gamescom blog, but with actual content) would be extremely welcome. As was already said, there's a lot of confusion around about what is and isn't in the game, let alone how in-depth the said systems are. First let's see what's actually there before we start arguing about how things work.
