TLD (The Last Days, LOTR mod) for M&B 1.011 Info

I know I saw it a whole load of pages back but exactly how do I make the enemy's force diminish?

Thing is; I'm currently playing as Mordor and somehow Gondor has been smashed to pieces... sort of. There are barely any parties out except for Auxilias and Foragers and an occasional caravan passing by. Is it actually worth attacking these? Would taking down a caravan lead to attrition?

How did this siege thing work again? I know the player can't initiate a siege but are there any prerequisites the AI needs to meet before it begins sieging?

Does Win XP tend to crash much less? If yes, I'll install it. Again

I'm running WinXP and haven't had a single crash insofar. Didn't fiddle with the settings or anything either, everything is as-is. There was a bug once with stuff disappearing and the ground turned to sky but it never caused a crash or anything.

TLD (The Last Days, LOTR mod) for M&B 1.011 Info

I bet it's been asked before but my inability to search is... well, let's just say it's bad.
Anyway! I got a game going as Gondor and I realized that distances in most settlement scenes are huge and for some reason my trusty horse is always left out - this didn't happen as Harad however. So to make things clear: Are we supposed to not have any horses in settlement scenes or am I missing someting here?

Uhm, where's the smithy in Morannon? The supply guy is up on the cliff with the chief. Either I'm optically impaired or he's hiding out real good somewhere!

What's this launcher everbody's talking about? I followed the instructions and ran the mod through the native loader and picked TLD as mod of choice and so far it's been running flawlessly.

For all the people who aren't native English speakers, how did you get so good at it? I'm trying to find some ways to improve my French, so finding out how you learnt a foreign language would be nice.

An hour every other day of classes that teach grammar I already know isn't helping too much.

Hengist is really on to something here with mind maps. People have different ways of learning and even though I haven't used mind maps myself I came across another method which mainly works for related languages (Indo-European in this case): Etymology! If you've got command of a Germanic language (say, English), which usually got a fair amount of Latin loans picking up on French vocabulary shouldn't be that much of a mess.

    En Regard -> Fr Regarder

Needless to say, everybody won't find this as effective, then again, it's not like you've got anything to lose. Give it a shot! This tactic is slightly obscured when dealing with more isolated languages like Japanese or Georgian. There isn't any magical way to learn a language despite what people are saying and if you aren't interested in its culture you'll never get to know the language at its apex.

EDIT: Watch movies with French subtitles! You probably won't remember jack at first but give it a couple of tries and eventually you'll start remembering expressions.

I can't be the only one suspecting overloaded servers on the 31st. I'm pretty sure it's been thought of already but using a torrent as a download option would probably do good.

I don't know how they do it in Finland, but don't they have the best schools in the world or something? Or most proficiency? Could you briefly explain what they do?

But the method I advocated was the system that the Japanese do, and their statistics are high up in education (as well as suicide though but is that directly connected?)

Finns have their own way of discipline.

    - Dad look! I scored a B today!
    - ?!
    - Papa?

This is true. Most of those people seem to have cars and ****. How 'bout they go make some money instead of stealing it from honest working people?

I don't get it either. Granted, the deal didn't generate a great amount of income but the same principle applies to everything from tractors to copying machines and tea cups. I think they're simply accustomed to having everything right off the bat, they're too comfortable to get an actual job which involves - bare with me - effort!

Now, I didn't make many cents today but I'll give it a go for a while longer. It's about starting out small, you can't stroll in and buy 300 tons of cotton from Kazakhstan and hope to get rich. In the end it doesn't matter whether the politicians call themselves "socialist", "liberalist" or "christian democrat", it all comes down to personal responsibility and action to make ends meet.

Right. Today I decided to try something out, all inspired by the whining from the "99%". I tried the oldest trick in the book and you know what? It worked! I guess minority women's studies don't teach you that.

Took a fairly small amount of cash, even if you're unemployed you can afford it, bought a bunch of stuff at a second hand store including a couple of ties and books. On top of that I talked to an older guy who's in the insolvency business who gave me a bunch of tips and now I've got an auction to attend as well. I've already put the stuff on eBay and lo and behold! It's getting sold off at a higher price. ****, you don't need to be Paul Krugman to wrap this 'round your head.

People are seemingly too dumb. Money won't appear out of nowhere, you've got to earn it.

Now, if you excuse me, I've got a package to get on its way.

How come I can't see anybody with a) an honest job or b) with a degree in law, engineering, physics, medical, chemistry or anything relevant?

Oh wait.... They didn't get a degree in minority women's studies!
These whiners are too "hip" to even get near a construction site or a machine it seems. That won't earn you a new iPhone a month. How inconsiderate of me to even think of that.

    Terra Nova

I gave the third episode a go and well... It didn't make things better, that's for sure. This series is basically 7th Heaven with dinosaurs, and that's supposed to depict family values in a world where you can't breathe without any form of assistance and under a harsh military government which well might be commanded by the God Emperor of Mankind. Speaking of the dinosaurs, it seems the researchers made a really bad job or simply re-invented dinosaurs being too lazy to find the proper ones. Given it's sci-fi I can take it to some degree but what I can't take are their hideously stupid names.

Assume you're on the first flight off of Earth to colonize another planet and you see a creature closely resembling a bear. Standing on its hind legs, eating honey and roaring, would you seriously consider a name like "roarer" or some****? No. Nobody would.  Too bad though, I hoped for this show would be better.

    Terra Nova

Interesting idea they've got going there. However, as with all historical settings it seems they've screwed a couple of things up: Flora! During the cretaceous, in which I presume they live, coniferous plants were dominant and flowering plants were not nearly as abundant as shown eventhough temperatures were higher it wasn't exactly like we imagine tropical rainforests today.

Also, if they went back in time; the better engineer a damn good plan to avoid the Cretaceous-Pleogene extinction with that big chunk of rock coming at them, also; ice ages.

Ah. "Springen" in Dutch means "jumping". "Springe" would be jumping too, but in (west-) Frisian.

Actually it's not a false cognate. In North Germanic languages the word still retain its meaning of doing a jump, or moving hastily.
The word "sprung" is present in many - if not all - Germanic languages even though the contemporary meaning differs a bit. In the sense of "jump" however, English use it quite often in i.e "sprung out of....".

*Spr- throughout the Germanic sphere are used to create words related to "jump" or "run" in some sense.

    Aliens

Plausible or not but the thought of creatures residing within a 4th, 5th or any other dimension is a bit frustrating.
For the sake or argument; assume we come across a world where its inhabitants are one dimensional. These life forms wouldn't be able to comprehend us, much less see us if we come from above, we'd be able to influence their world and cause all sort of "divine" interventions. No, I'm not supporting any of von Dänicken's theories or whatnot - though some of his theories are interesting nontheless. But what if aliens beyond our understanding have already visited us? Well, we wouldn't know anyhow but they might have screwed us over more times than we can count.

    5.9 Magnitude Earthquake in Virginia

    Citizen_Kane said:
Comon. Why is the East Coast in so much panic? Over here in the West Coast we get 7.3's all the time. We don't get on the news. Pff. 5.9...

Take a look at a seismic map and you'll see something interesting. The Virginia seismic zone aren't too active and the whole North American east coast is a passive margin, possibly dotted with volcanism, while the west coast enjoys numerous subduction zones as well as transform faults. Seeing how the Pacific ridge is still spreading it's not too strange is it? Besides, the bedrock on the west coast is mostly made up of sedimentary rocks and seismic waves have a habit of propagating "better" under such conditions.

Granted, people on the east coast shouldn't have to worry if they attended a class or two in geology or physics. Case Virginia is what I presume a result of underlying tensions left from earlier orogeny (Acadian, Taconic and Alleghenian), or simply internal plate deformations.

Here I was, all jealous that this happened once I left the east coast, only to find out that a roughly equivalent quake happened in my back yard just last night. ... and I couldn't feel a thing. I guess I was just a little too far north.

Being of equivalent magnitude doesn't really say too much. The geology of the two regions are vastly different to begin with and their hypocenters had different depths. To boot, the one in Virginia resulted in a normal fault while the one in Colorado was a thrust fault (if I'm not entirely mistaken), alas I don't have the information at hand. Point is: The seismic waves propagated very differently by looking at the focal mechanisms: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/topics/beachball.php

Speaking of earthquakes, aren't they preparing for some sort of event regarding the New Madrid tremor some day soon?

The Last Days v2.4 (for .808) ---Next Release Date Unknown!

I'd rather not see the devs usurp any music - in any way.
When it comes to setting the music, I would rather see the composers make their own interpretation of how it all should come together instead of readily going with some intellectual moonlight plundering merely because someone else write dramatic and sometimes epic scores. I mean, it's better with a well-played flute than someone trying a go with a badly orchestrated orchestra.
