So...I'm thinking of trying WoT out.

By default I am rather tempted to go either with American, USSR or German tanks.

Any veteran's views on the viability of those three sides? (I.e. any particular reasons to avoid say the German tanks?)

Well, the general consent is that USSR, especially the heavy line, is easier to learn than most and pretty beginner friendly. Good mix of agility, armor and firepower, mainly lacking in fire rate and accuracy. Of course, such general descriptions only apply to tank trees in general, not every tank.

Overall, I would agree. Go for the USSR heavies, those are fun. Especially the lighter ones - those in the line that starts with the KV-1S.
