I didn't try it again. There was no solve with 4.55c.
However, my time is short for playing, so I did not update to 4.57 yet.

However, seems that the most important thing seems the texture size.
A lot of players have claimed, that lowering the texture size should help solve those problems.
You said you lowered your settings already, did you als tried lowering the texture settings?

Side question, have you changed the .txt files for some tweaks?

So asking generally would the people that test the new hotfixed version say the game runs more stable and after changing the graphic options etc. the main bugs like the save game bugs and the battle bugs are now more or less resolved and the mod is playable?

I never had this problem to begin with, and i think it might be better to find the source of the issue rathor than finding a hotfix. athough i dont at all mind this hotfix XD

What exactly do you mean by texture size? The options that are available to me in terms of video or rather graphic settings are:

Texture Details, Frame Rate, Screen Resolution (same as desktop), Render Method (kept that at DX9), Antialiasing, Shadow Quality, Monitor Gamma, Grass Density, Character Detailsm, Character Shadow Details, Number of Corpses, Number of Rag Dolls, Blood Stains, Dynamic Lighting and Character Shadows (which I both left as they were in default as it did not seem to effect the performance), Environment Shadows, Realistic Shadows on Plant, Particle System and Anisotropic Filtering. All these options are set to the bare minimum. So what exactly do you mean by texture size?

No I did not tweak and .txt as I do not get into that stuff with a mod... tried to mess around a bit with some of the KOTOR mods once... huge disaster since than I leave my hands of something like that and rather ask for advice from some of the programmers to tweak certain things.

Concerning kaza-yaida's post: Yes I agree with you there, it seems that I'm not the only one encountering these problems or rather having bugs that make the game unplayable so I think a general overhaul is in order concerning some of the issues. Like I said I did not encounter any bugs what so ever before 4.5 Gold so some of the new editions must really take the piss. Especially since some people state that the formation option slows down there game... well to be honest I have not encountered that especially since I play quite a few mods that have integrated this mod and there is no problem what so ever and it did work fine whilst playing the old SOD versions.

Since using the hotfixed version I had no more game crashes.
The only errors so far are some of the mercenary quests (escort caravan and rescue spy) and script errors that appear but don't seem to have an effect (other that there is no random event).
Perhaps to qualify my last statement.
  • When using v4.5 I often had the problem with crashes when I tried to save. With v4.57 I had no crash when saving so far (about 3 months of game time).
  • When using v4.5 I twice had to fight my own men with an army of me (thank god for ctrl+F4) but I can't say how often that bud did not occur. With v4.57 I have jet to get that problem but so far I only had 1 or 2 quests of that type.

Well I never had the clonearmy problem but the savegame prob which persisted no matter what I changed in the graphics etc. Now I don't even get to that point anymore as SOD just crashes as soon as I enter a battle.

Texture Details are the settings I had in mind. Started the game just to be sure. However, after taking a look, I noticed, that these options are already at 20 for me, so I doubt it will work =/

As to the .txt file changes, I do them often, I think I do it pretty carfully, so there should be no problems coming from messed .txt files, however it could be, so it was more a blind shot, just to find some similaritys to track down these mysterious crashes =/

Hymm, strange strange. When it comes to formations, btw., I disable them at the start, don't really like the formations thing, so this is no cause for my problems either...

Strange...

Gaius Marius belongs to "commoners" and has a mercenary group consists of one cloned player. He stays at the beginning village.

Hey guys, I saw the 4.5 thread at top (and with bigger bold letters) and got all excited and am DLing it. Should I DL 4.57 too?
As you want to start a new game I would advise 4.57. At least for me 4.57 is more stable. I also like the item changes.

Thanks Berpol. It looks like what I actually DLed via the link for "4.5" is 4.57, so its all good.

Hey, is there a way to disable the "One year till the mean old Legate attacks?" Or better yet to expand it to two or three years?

My favorite part of MB is building up my character from a solo fighter to having a large force. Starting off with 45 guys and knowing that the clock is ticking for me to build up a kingdom kinda takes away from that early game fun for me. Building a huge army and kingdom are definitely fun, but I'd like to start more "from scratch" and not feel rushed by the one-year timeline.

Probably a super easy bug but I was wondering if you can help me with it:

The lord of Khergits Sanjar and Nord Lord Surdun share the same flag. Where in the script can I fix this? (Surdun suppose to use the flag right before Gerlad's I think.)

So at the end of the day there is still nobody who hs a clue why SOD 4.5-4.57 is so damn near unplayable for roughly 1/3 of the players? I mean sorry guys but it has to be something that you implemented from Gold onwards as all the versions before seem to have been damn near completely stable an bugfree so there should be some way to figure it out. I would really love to play SOD...

Hey, I got a rough 3hours of playing 4.57 now, not a crash =D
So, nice for me, but what did I do?

To be honest, do not have a real clue myself, made a clean install, applied my fixes, start the game, new game, created an char, wanted to open the character screen, bump, first crash.
Okay, started the game again, new game, created a new char, saved, character screen, worked, imported my char, went to a town, after that, wanted to hire some jobless mercenarys, bump, next crash.
Next time I loaded again, went to the same mercs and bump, crash again.
Okay, remembered the thing with the texture details, changed it, loaded again, talk to the mercs, bump.

So far, so fruitless. But now, I changed all the settings to the lowest possible, made everything on low details and turned off anything, which may make the game look better. Loaded again, go to the mercs, aaaannnnd bump xD.
However, and I think that does the trick, then I did it the other way round, maxed! all settings, loaded, went to the jobless mercs, talked, et voila, it went.

After that, I spend another hour to lower one setting after the other and loaded again and talked to the mercs to find out, what was causing the problem. Guess what? Nothing. Could decrease all the settings like before, but now I do not get any crashes.

I'm not into software mechanics, but my unqualified mind tells me, that there may be some corruptions with the mount and blade settings. So I recommend anyone to do it the way I did, first decrease all! graphic settings and turn off everything, load and play, and then increase everything to max, load and play.

After that procedure, I think it is safe to have your old settings.

anyone with crashes, plz try this out and give a message in this forum, if it helped.
At least we could see if this was just a lucky problem solve for me or if there are really some file corruptions that can be solved that way.

Berpod, I especially hope that helps your cause =D
