A few weeks ago, due to perhaps the heavy rainfall, large floods and landslides occur in the state of Uttarakhand here in India. The sacred towns of Kedarnath and Badrinath and the surrounding region is badly affected, with thousands of pilgrims caught up due to the fact that a pilgrimage was taking place in the region. Thousands of pilgrims from every part of India are stranded, with almost a thousand dead. However, it is being estimated that about ten thousand people are dead.

This is one of the biggest natural calamities ever to occur in India.

Ironically, the temple-towns of Badrinath and Kedarnath have been affected the worst. It is being estimated that while no damage has occurred to the Kedarnath temple's inner portions, due to the damage done to the outer parts is so much that the temple will remain closed for about 2-3 years.

Maaaaann, this is one of the worst calamity India has ever facce since umm..., the Bhuj earthquake and the 2004 tsunami, I  think

No, but the heavy deforestation in the region caused the soil to loosen up, thus leaving the region prone to landslides caused by the flood.

What do you think is the cause of this?

They were praying to the wrong god.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find examples of churches of the right god, whoever that may be, getting burned down by lightning strikes, toppled by earthquakes or destroyed by some other natural disaster. Sometimes even when full of worshippers.

I also think the government is also to be blamed. The districts which were affected didn't even have a satellite phone, otherwise the info regarding the disaster could have been circulated hours earlier, thus saving a huge amount of lives. Also, the rescue work is also suffering due to this "VVIP traffic". Every time a high-profile person goes there to "watch" the disaster-struck people, every person is needed to be in his service, thus hampering the work. Also, this media is also responsible, to an extent. Generally, a helicopter has space for 6-7 people, but if 2 reporters sit in every helicopter, won't that also hamper the rescue work?
