Screen freezes

With the latest update, I've finally been able to put my textures at 100% on MP and play for some 25 minutes without a problem, but then the screen started to freeze. To be more precise, it alternates back and forth between two frames. Alt-tabbing fixes it, but then I'll get a freeze again shortly afterwards. On SP, after a while, I'll get one such screen freeze virtually every time I arrive at some place, and eventually the whole thing would just crash (last time this happened, I got a good old runtime error).

Steam version, single threading, load textures on demand, beta patches activated, 32bit fix not applied (I'd rather not have to resort to that). Every log file of mine I've looked at so far has had "Texture Memory: -1", which I haven't seen in anyone else's logs and which I imagine is significant here.
