[size=11pt][size=15pt]The Idea:
Hey there people. After seeing along the years what here in the Forge are asked continuously the same topics I thought the following:

What about creating a compendium of modding knowledge in a common space easy to navigate?
We can extend the existing documentation improving and updating it if needed.

Basic Advantages:
[size=12pt]
  • Useful Starting guide for newcomers.
  • Everything done by the registered users of the forum. Guest read only.
  • Documented Module System (structures and definitions).
  • Translatable.
  • Easy Maintenance and zero extra cost.
  • Increasingly Popular in the Game Studios of today. As Valve, Guild Wars, Second Life,...
  • It doesn't even needs to be huge. As most part of people thinks.

Also with information about the games, factions, gameplay (already done)
There's already an external one with 383 articles. But what better than maintain it at home?

[size=11pt]http://mountandblade.wikia.com/  -> http://wiki.taleworlds.com/

I'm offering voluntarily as editor.

Deployment:
Also it's extremely easy to setup, Janus. Through a SMF -> Mediawiki bridge.

I support this, I like the idea of a official wiki. I'm new, and really wish there was a place which answered literally everything in one place. :razz:

Definitely a good idea. Information would be way easier to find on a wiki than on a forum, and people can publish their own creations and codes etc.

+ 1.

EDIT: Wouldn't this better be posted in the Realms of Calradia? Because it also covers the gameplay of Mount&Blade and Warband.

Done. [ http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,152607.0.html ]
C'mon guys. Keep supporting this before it gets buried...  :smile:

I also support this.

It would be nice to have everything in one place + updated as many guides are incomplete and it's time consuming to read all the posts.

Definetely a good idea, but we need some people who maintain it and edit/remove wrong information. Also, an integration in the forum's search function would be quite helpful.

I'm offering myself for this task.
And surely there won't be any problem to recruit some code-cool-boys here in the Forge to help with the Msys content:
(GetAssista, Highlander, Somebody, ithilienranger, xenoarg, Vincenzo, MadocComadrin, Caba'drin, Dunde, cmpxchg8b and much, much more...)  :smile:

a wiki for code snippets would be great.

too many cool pieces of codes are lost and re-done over time.

no offense to anyone, but imo the organization in mountandblade.wikia.com isn't very good.

A list like this: http://oneslime.net/wiki/Category:Serves would be great for pieces of codes.

Yeah. We're talking about making it official, Sonkidd. With various sections of Gameplay/Factions/Module System/Code/Guides...
Something like http://wiki.taleworlds.com. Not a sideway project. Following the Valve Modding Wiki or the Guild Wars Official one.

But for turning it true we need the support of the community. To be heard!. So Janus can setup one.

+1.

It'd be nice to have somewhere to put code projects when they're finished / useful, rather than knowing they're getting buried; and it'd be nice to write out stuff like "how to edit / create Scenes" just once, since that area of the engine is fairly stable now.

A Wiki, well-designed in terms of structure, would be really useful, if for no other reason than because it'd be easier to navigate than a Forum.

The problem I've seen in most game Wikis is that whoever puts it up doesn't give it a top-down structure that allows newbies to find the information they need.  So, for example, it's important to have things structured, as in, "Modding-->Module System-->Header Operations-->agent_is_alive", etc.

This is especially important for the more technical / obscure stuff, like "how do I set up collision meshes", "how do Materials work", "how does the animation system work", etc., where I feel like there's actually a lot more information out there than people think, it's just not available unless you want to burn a couple of hours on forum searches.
