This is a question I ask to myself and I would like to share with you all on the discussion table and quantify the resulting opinions through a poll. The effects of blood and how it sticks to clothes and weapons is certainly one of the immersive experiences that Bannerlord offers in battles. However, it personally pulls me out of my immersion that the same volume of blood is brought into the Arena, both in practice and in tournaments. Right now you can suffer wounds as considerable as a javelin stuck in your neck that makes you fall into a pool of blood and continue as if nothing happened in the next round.

Personally I would bring back the concept of Arena practice and Arena Tournaments that we could find in previous installments where you fall unconscious because you were hit by a wooden sword or a blunt metal point. I advocate for:

Arena Practice: Same clothes for the participants and different weapons according to the background. Wooden weapons such as 1h/2h swords, 1h/2h axes, blunt head spears, polearms, all combined with shield or not and blunt head projectiles that bounce off bodies but inflict damage.

Arena Tournaments: Similar to the practice experience but with better quality/protection clothing. A tournament should be fair, everyone should have the same chances and fighting skills should be the deciding factor to victory. Therefore the current idea that makes the participants appear in their original armour ( legionaries with their full lamellar armour, etc...) is very far from the concept of a tournament seen in Warband/VC..etc.

Do you prefer an Oldschool Arena?Do you prefer the current bloody option?

Agreed, though I'd like to have a tournament where you fight just as you are or with special tournament weapons / armors, you yourself have to aquire. A second tournament type maybe.

Also, as I've stated elsewhere, the battle screams are weird, considering you are not actually trying to kill someone.

I am thinking that maybe changing arena weapons to something more blunt, or at least change the way the most deadly weapons look to a more *blunt* look. Like making the javelins have a round tip(or a flat one i guess) and not make them stick into shields/people. Remove the blood effect, as Terco said and maybe bringing back the wooden swords from warband? Spears would be weird still, maybe make them with a round tip as well would likely help but other than these i can't really think of any other fix

Consult the immersion specialist at TW.... wait....
Lmao

yeah it don’t feel right - I like the distinction of practice fight style blunted weapons and please no personal full armors

what would be really nice would be to have a Grand Tournament and/or special cultural ones that are much bigger events with huge proclamations, buildups, trumpets blazing and to the Death! Now most likely just have the NPCs gets seriously maimed but the chance for death being always present . The prize and fame and glory -huge

dammit I might have to start modding again

It's weird, because we "die" in arena and we out of city full of health, zero injuries.
Really funny experience :iamamoron:

Sometimes I also resort to acid comments (some with too much animosity amount); we can do it better mate... be blunt but not corrosive.?

Perhaps in the future we will see other types of tournaments beyond pure fighting competition. There is a scene in the archives of the game called Hippodrome; these are my suppositions without any foundation but maybe we will have horse racing tournaments. Maybe this can be extrapolated to archery competitions, jousts, melee games...etc...

Blunt/dull weapons and 80% less blood is fine for me. No blood is not that good either. The player should get wounded to some degree depending on the damage received in the tournament. The tournament prizes should be better depending on the skill of the participants.

A simple ibuprofen won't make the headache go away... but it's just a scratch, he will heal soon, won't he?

I don't know, in some tournaments only I, my soldiers and my companions participate, and now that they can die ...

I'm not sure if the "trial by combat" option is currently a possibility; however in the 2018 build it was possible through a quest.

In this type of situation I do see the plausibility of enabling a damage/death in Arena scenario, but no for tournaments or practice.

With a single click I would like you to take a single moment of your time to position yourself with respect to the poll. Thanks in advance

Still present in 1.5.5 dlls (have been present since release I think) are the JoustingTournamentGame, HorseRaceTournamentGame, FightTournamentGame (this the one that's used currently) and ArcheryTournamentGame classes. There are a bunch of other classes related to these ones but it seems the other tournament types have either been dropped or are simply not finished yet. Using the mod tools or messing with some code it appears the arena scenes (at least some) still have assets for archery and jousting.

My guess is they will be implemented in a future update, of course modders could implement them or other types now that scenes are easily edited but so far tournament mods mostly change minor stuff.

I believe most of the suggestions here are possible with mods but modding shouldn't be required for immersion.

I didn't want to be the one to break the magic, well for the more insightful here is the fact revealed. :iamamoron:

I'd be happy if they just gave arena fighters brightly colored outfits so that you can see them. Sometimes its like fighting the Predator, they're so well camouflaged in their dirty brown outfits against the dirty brown surroundings.

But yes, they should be using wooden weapons as well

+1 for the Warband Oldschool Arena it should have been the default tournament at Bannerlord release and then from there other types of competition could have been added with the participants own weapons and equipment or whatever.

Now that we are onto matters I would also like to lobby for full experience gain in Arenas because right now I think the player only gets 25% of xp for every action he does in the Arena: one handed weapons, running, shield blocking, bow, etc... and honestly I dont see any reason why we should not get 100% full xp instead if the combat actions are exactly the same than fighting in a battle... feels more like a punishment and lost work.

I was really hoping for the tournaments to be one of the things BL expanded on the most and they are a bit of a disappointment. By adding different ones like racing, jousting, archery, throwing, scrum, team tournaments, and weapon specific would have really made them shine. As of now I do prefer the old tournament but I also can't stop watching people taking javelins to the face. That gif you posted is hilarious.

I think someone on reddit said that there are some 'jousting' assets in the files but i can't be sure. It could have been about a mod as well but i don't think..
