SP - General Playing tavern games to level up your companion's tactics skills

What if playing and winning matches with your companions/clan members awarded them with some tactics experience? Instead of or in addition to the relation increase you already get, since as far as I'm aware, increasing the relationship with your companions doesn't do anything.

It'd be a nice way to help them out a bit to level up those skills ?

Doesn't relationship with a companion matter if you make them a noble? Otherwise agree. Tactics (alongside Engineer and some others) is one of those skills that doesn't really have any low level ways to raise it without diving into the deep end. Even very minor skill XP for tavern game participants would do a lot.
