Off-Hand sword (shield) - Sugoroku

So during a random encounter, I noticed that some units carry an off-hand sword that functions as a shield. How would I go about acquiring one without cheating? I've checked every weapon store and haven't found it.

You can loot them after battles.

Is there a way to have them appear as normal wakizashi when sheathed?

Hm, now theres a thought.  Can we change the modes of the wakizashi using the 'x' button?  Not sure how effective these are, I'm too useless to do anything except blow them away with a volley of musket rounds...  Guess it doesn't work on musket rounds?
