Greetings and all.

Well im going for a standard one handed specialist, mostly a rider. Ive decided to cheat a little in the beginning to make the early grind softer, heard the start was a bit frustating, so I raised my characters level to Borchas level and im planning to raise Marnid to that level as well, other than that just enough cash for me to get decent weps and armor and a heavy charger for my main.

The problem is, when I tried to level up the heroes using the cheat the option to raise weapon skills seem to have been removed, even though they recieve the points. Is this the standard setup? Heroes cannot raise wep skills at level up? Or is it a problem with the ctrl+x cheat?

Also would I benefit from applying the official story module? Im not really looking for a plot driven rpg experience, the combat engine and authentic feel of the game is what got me hooked, I got plenty of other rpgs, still if it really adds to the game I guess I should install it  Give me your advice.

There seems to be a good deal of people active, could someone please take the time to answer this for me real quick please?

The weapon skills with Marnid and Borcha are due to a low "weapon master" skill, put some points in it and you can spend weapon skill points again.

And as for the unofficial Story Mod, yes, I would indeed recommend it. Adds loads of nice stuff to the game besides the story. I also recommend playing it with realistic saves on if only for the autosaves at the start of battles and upon entering towns, M&B has trouble handling the amount of items & parties that storymod adds.

I NEVER use cheats when im new to a game, even this one.

It ends like one can't complete something without cheats.( well, thats how it ended for me )
I would not say luck,if you stop using cheats until later, but your choice.

I can't play Age of Empires 2 proberly because i cheated from the start.
Its not fun.Seriously!  <-- me in Age of Empires

But,lets just hope it never becomes you.
Whatever
Every time i cheat,i name my characteres "cheater",a simple name
Ok,ok, it's alright to use cheats, but don't freak them, i'd say.
Well, about those cheats,in depends on how long you've played the game,
and when you started using cheats, but i don't want to ruin you ( sorry if i ever did )

By the way,i belive its normally that you can use cheats one Borcha and Marnid.

Fenril. If you want my advice DO NOT CHEAT!!!!!!! IT completely ruins the whole fun. The charm of M&B is the struggle up to level 15 odd when you can start coping with just about anything. If you cheat and ruin all that fun you are not *softening* the grind you are taking it all away. But it isn't a grind, this isn't an mmorpg its a single player game! Grinding isn't an issue its part of the fun. My advice is- start a new game- train up on river pirates and hire a small party of peasents- once you have some cash form prisoners start getting some decent ranged weapons (crossbows are good at the start) then once you can start taking on the bandits with your hopefully slightly more experienced band of soldiers you can get loot that's worth soemthing and make money form that. DONT CHEAT X 2 10

hehe to be honest Its not a habit of mine.

The thing is I quit playing MMO's like two years back. Now im back to my roots and building QUITE a collection of rpg's for the PC from the oldest to the newest. You guessed it im an internet/gaming addict. So the problem for me is that im already playing two other time consuming single player games, plus the occasional FPS match. And since MnB in the vanilla version is not exactly plot driven anyway I wanted to get my char and party to competent level straight way so I could enjoy the action/strategy aspect of it more without spending too much time with it.

I still wait for my party to level , which is quite a timesink in itself, I feel some of them die before they can even do a battlecry or moan about something. Still what gets me about this game is how everything is so well implemented. To be totally honest I think some more depth or options in some areas would be welcome in combat. But the way every aspect comes together is just great. I still cant get over the fact this is an indie game.

Seriously some of the "pro's" that were behind the melee systems in oblivion/morrowind and affiliates could definately take some tips from MnB's developer on how to make a good combat engine.

Anyways dont hate me for being a cheater

It doesn't matter at all if someone uses cheats in single player games, it's just fine, but in multiplayer... How ****ed up is that?

I tried cheating on one of my chars, I got pissed because I had to fight a ****load of people. so I deleted him after 2 game days, now I can say "You're not a true gamer if you have to cheat to win.".

For me, cheating completely ruins any game.  Especially if I do it from the beginning.  The only exception is in games where there's a time limit on every level and so I'll usually remove the limit since I like to enjoy a game, not just rush through b/c of a damn timer.  I've been playing M&B since .623 and have never actually used cheats, except to restore a character I was having fun with when a new version was released.

Depends.  If you cheat in multi-player to be good, then yes...that's pathetic.  If you cheat in multi-player to piss off a rotten community (like counter-strike), then kudos.  Words  cannot describe how fun it is to knife the entire enemy team of 10 people in 3 seconds before they can even buy a gun.  All you literally hear is "Prepare to fi...Terrorists win".

My case is a bit different. Many people play games for the experience and hard work; I however play M & B for the sheer thrill of slaughter (morbid, I know, but meh). And of course, I can't annihilate the various armies of khergits, dark nights, swadians and veigirs if I keep dying or running out of money, can I?

Except you also piss off people who aren't assholes.

after you get a sizable starting army, with a few cheats maybe, and have decent armor, you dont need to cheat a thing anymore. yes, i cheated to get swadian footman (going from peasant to footman is frustrating), but leveled them all, manualy, to men at arms, and some even to knight. and with the money i made from that and doing missions i could buy good armor, no cheating needed anymore. With my high surgery, even if those 50 dark knights kill me, i still have about 7 m-a-a and 3 knights left, good enough as starting party to go kill vaegir veterans, they are weak, 1 hit from a heavy military pick

I don't think there's anything wrong with cheating in M&B: it's not like there's any acomplishments or anything.  Nobody says 'rar I finished M&B in three days lol'.  In SP games with a progression, it's just deeply lame.  Multi cheating is bad: you're not just crap at a game, but you're ****ing up other people.  Yes, even CS players are people... hard to believe, but true.
