Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Developer Blog 15 - Valuable Relationships

Users who are viewing this thread

Greetings all and thanks for making your way over to our 15th Development Blog. It's been a little while since we updated the blog, but we've been hard at work on the game and we're excited to talk a little about something we've been working on recently.

TBH adding a bit of random into any games makes it just a little more interesting so long as those random events aren't just clones of "you find x gold" or etc. I'm thinking Like those random events in fallout that sometimes give a bit of lore, so too could this be done. Don't expect it though, probably a modders work

I hope they add random events and encounters like they have in A Clash of Kings or Brytenwalda, but more refined and without the annoying permanent debuffs (or make that an option you can turn off)
That's a cheap mechanic to make the game less bland, if they indeed need that to enrich it a bit, it'll suck...
If you're looking for "free cheats" you'd be better off cheating instead...
Hi to you both -
IMHO Cheap random encounters = Flat random encounters. That's definitely not something I want.
I have posted a textual flowchart earlier that might shed some light over my intentions.

On a side note though, I hate the fact that raiding is so important to the AI. The only one who can defend the village in Warband is the player, and even though you may reject attacks from one specific lord multiple times, he will never grow fear of you. He'll just keep coming back, and that's pretty annoying.

I have also witnessed lord parties which consist of 0/1 men (with the lord being wounded), and they still managed to raid villages...

It looked like villages now have visible garrisons, so maybe they can actually fend off smaller lord parties. Though in WB villages technically had invisible garrisons (who didn't fight back against the npc lords), so might mean nothing.

Yaaasss! It isn't ranking on my favorite list as well.

Is there actually a released API or something to work with or do we write blind scripts?

I'd wildly guess that you may be one of the first BL modders :fruity:

You really nailed it here. Enemy parties roam around villages like flies over a pile of ****. Even if you're standing there with a full fledged army, they'll orbit your village untill you grow bored and leave the area. Raiding the player's villages is like zero priority to the AI, and your presence never seem to intimidate them (fear of being retaliated? None!).

I'm pretty sure this isn't a thing in Bannerlord... well, at least I hope the overworld gameplay and AI is less dumb.

We're almost in June, so I presume we're getting some real news soon!

This so much. I was thinking that there could be some kind of individual value for "fear" each npc lord feels towards you. I mean besides influence. Basically the fear of NPC lord would grow towards you as you get renown and defeat them in battle. I mean it makes no sense that a low ranking lord with one village as a fief would go raiding villages of a lod whos marshalling the enemy faction and has two towns and could just come and murder him and his entire family. In game of thrones there is a reason why small time lords arent screwing with the properties of the big time lords of enemy factions . This would make it so that you wouldnt have to keep chasing off lords with 40 men in their parties away constantly since they would just steer clear of you and go look for some weaker villages.

Also on this note it wouldn't be that fair that the AI fears the player but the player doesn't fear the AI so also when your relations with lords goes lower at some point they should just actively start hunting you (provided they dont fear you and actually stand a change). Why should the king of the mighty swadia tolerate the weak mercenary captain working for the rhodoks and keeps raiding his villages time and time again.

So E3 is coming soon and TaleWorlds is officially one of the exhibitor!
What great news could we expect in the so attended “Dev Blog 16”?
Incredible variety of horses colour? Amazing profusion of supplies (are you fed up eating cabbage and bred)? Realistic and specific production of villages? Possibility to adopt a unicorn or a kangaroo as pet (what for …)? …
Maybe you could understand I’m a little bit upset by the “terrific “ Dev Blog 15.

he i had a little suggestion for the game in the last game warband it always bothered me that you could not select the startingtroops you wanted. i mean sometimes you had to fight a Rhodok armi with several horses in at the start. which as you can imagin in the mountens of there territory is not a good thing to do. i won that battle but all my knights and man at arms were death or knocked out (i had 10 out of 56 left) this would not have happend if i could chose to have only infantry and archers at the field.

Might sound like a hassle, but you can just move your troops up and down at the party menu. Just press P and move your cavalry all the way down when you're fighting Rhodoks.

This can also be done in the battle menu (where you can select charge/retreat)

this game better be close to perfect played the first version of mount and blade and been waiting for ever for bannerlord to come out what's taking so long

Please, a two player mode in story mode, where each one can go their way, and the game is paused when the host of the room pauses. :ohdear:

It was going to be very good. :meh:
