Jagged Alliance : Back in Action

Users who are viewing this thread

Now I know many of us cry foul of JA : BiA (me included), but I actually preordered it on steam.

I'm guessing I was hoping that :

a) The devs release the fog and stuff in a separate patch, or at least another setting that allows 7.62 high calibre viewing range instead of the current system.

b) The bear pit figures out how to mod the damn thing. Devs already confirmed that there will be no modding support.

So who else on TW was as stupid as I am and toss money to those naughty naughty devs.

Shame on you. Twenty lashes.

a) The devs release the fog and stuff in a separate patch, or at least another setting that allows 7.62 high calibre viewing range instead of the current system.
Extra work for programmers for no extra income, not going to happen.

b) The bear pit figures out how to mod the damn thing.
This might very well happen, though I'd prefer that they would keep working on JA2 1.13.

I'm thinking of preordering it Friday. I played 7.62 high calibre a lot so hoping this is as good.

I believe I shall wait and see.

Perhaps, I have a slight lack of faith in the developers but I do not feel inclined to lose any $ if it turns out to be terrible.

R@S from BSM (blue sun mod for 7.62) expressed interest in modding JA:BiA should bear pit ****s out some modding tools (He's still working on BSM, but a bunch of BSM players, R@S included, already preordered JA:BiA.)

I think he's a good spearhead for JA:BiA mods since from what I've seen (from playing BSM betas) how much a pain in the ass it is to balance projectile properties and stuff when the game runs in real time. Experience in modding for 7.62 would come in handy. Not sure about them Russians from the HLA (hard life addon for 7.62), but most of the novel codes that BSM runs now (leveling system, chose-able classes, mini campaigns for skirmish battles, etc) came from them Russians.

Basically that's how much faith I have in the devs. The game is not out yet and I'm already thinking of skipping vanilla and heading to mods directly.

BSM was the last mod I did try out for 7.62, would be cool to see mods come out for this as well. Probably going to go ahead and preorder it since I do work 11 hours overtime this week so have some extra cash next pay anyway.

Edit : I am hoping there is at the least a ton of different weapons, armor, mercs and items in the game. Trying to find a list of all available weapons but don't see much on their forums.

Edit 2 : Demo

From what I've seen, a bunch of stuff made it inferior to 1.13. This is stuff that I've understood from the forum but I'm not sure if I interpreted it wrongly.

-Back to vanilla level of customization (only one mod per gun, no more gun porn). Also I think the guns follow vanilla JA2.

-Specialized ammo (AP, HP) cannot be applied to general guns (Only some guns with special rules can use them)

-You only hire mercs once. (Not really sure what that implies, perhaps a gameplay like JA2:UB?)

-Preorder on steam already gotten the scar model wrong (model clearly is a 14.5 inch barrel SCAR L STD, while the advertised SCAR L CQB is a 10 incher), this casts doubts on the devs actual knowledge on the things they are trying to create.

-Devs did say that there would be 4 camos in game (Urban, woodland, can't remember, can't remember), so carry spare battle dresses.

-Shotties seem to have the same realistic range as they had in 7.62 (from watching gameplay video), this is a huge plus in my opinion, always had a guy with an emergency shotty for sticky situations where I need someone to dump buck shots rapidly in a general direction for suppression.

R@S talked about it earlier. I was gonna avoid that to prevent early disappointment, but the urge to download is getting big. It apparently has 1 hour gameplay, that demo.

That list pisses me off, hopefully this demo doesn't anger me as much or I might just wait for a BSM to come out.

Edit : Already managed to die and quit out of the mission which is a mission and not even a tutorial so I have no idea how to play. I have some guy with a pistol, clicked on it thinking I could switch it out but it said 'fire mode' so I right click to what I thought would exit out of that, but it fired his gun alerting the enemies to his position

Good news to ease the anger is some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modders seemed to be trying to get a stalker mod into 7.62. Bad news is I just found out JA:BiA uses a FPS healing system (apply medkit, full health, continue ass kicking).

No more repercussion for stumbling into smg range with an assault rifle and getting beat at quick drawing and getting shot up. Even 7.62 was not that forgiving.

In 7.62 I literally needed the medic guy to come with me or someone would manage to die unless I was super careful the whole game, I even had all my mercs carry a first aid kit and bandages.

Why can't they just make 7.62x2

Edit : Figured out inventory and already found what I think to be a bug :

GameDemo2012-02-0109-01-01-64.jpg

Also, some guy has a suppressor, but he can't use it so I had to drop it to some other guy who could use it :/

Stamina is red, healthbar is green....I keep on thinking my mercs are dieing but they are just out of stamina :/

Not sure of any other game to use a backwards ass system like that.

I am really unsure why they would just pop you into a mission instead of having a tutorial especially for a game like this. I figured out most things just from 7.62 and their similarities but still unsure of a lot of things.

Anyway, is morale gone?

Not sure really, just been killing from a distance.

GameDemo2012-02-0109-35-37-92.jpg

About to send in my guy with the 'klock' that I now have supressed and see if I can't kill some people inside some hospital.

Edit : Can't loot guns from dead enemies, only ammo and misc items

Or not, found a gun on one guy out of like 10 so you only get them rarely apparently.

I can see morale in the inventory screen

GameDemo2012-02-0109-51-54-13.jpg

GameDemo2012-02-0109-58-39-96.jpg

Took me two shots with a pump shotgun at close range to kill, ugh

Blue bar seems to be time until an action is completed, from what I can see so far. Having trouble throwing a grenade through a door, my guy keeps throwing it at the door hinge and killing himself :/

Edit : Hovered over blue bar, its noise. Grey one beside it is visibility.
