Technically as long as it's was a formation/mob you could charge right away.
However, i think we may do it again today. The main gameplay map got a ship glitch and a few minors bugs anyways.

They actually CAN give or cut reinforcements. See shield wall battles on Vikingr (when it wasn't dead mod).

Bridge, forest and fog! Fog is good for bridge battles, and furthermore, it will increase FPS due to low visibility range. And of course, looks epic to fight in the fog in ACTUAL shieldwall. And of course, giving river and bridge makes possibility to make another stages of battle like swamp fight (battle on small wooden planks) and fighting in water (hard due to slow movement).

Got everything. Formations (bridge), tactics (swamp), cooperation (fighting in water).
