Discussion about Party Roles

So if I understand it correctly, once I assign a companion to, say, Scout of my party... I no longer gain experience in that skill? The downside I suppose is depriving your party the benefits of a skilled scout until you advance high enough to provide those same benefits right? So if I have an idea of the skills I plan to revolve my current hero around, I should avoid having the companions in my party that would take up any of the roles that advance any of those skills?

I suppose this makes sense on some level as how would I gain experience in scouting if Darim of the Wastes is doing all the scouting but I could see on another level having an advanced hero of any particular skill ride along side you and fight with you, you would think one would possibly learn EVEN MORE than doing it on one's own. But maybe that would lead to a balance issue? Or just it would be kind of having your cake and eating it too type of thing... since it appears the developers intention is for these campaigns to go on and on for some time, especially if the player wants to have any type of dynasty experience.

Anyone have any thought on this or know of a mod that would allow you to assign a role but still receive experience in it?... possibly even more experience?

Guy of the wastes already starts with 140 more scouting points than you. You'd take 10 years to get there.

It's simple division of labor and skill specialisation. It is essential to the functioning of any real world military.

If I get you, you want to be good at everything? I think that's impossible, because you can only assign yourself one role. If you assign yourself as scout, your scout won't do their job and you wont benefit from their skills.

If you don't assign any roles, you'll slowly pick up those points... steward, medicine etc. But it will be slow going and you'll start with low levels in each.

Hell... I don't assign any roles to my character so that I can maximise the leadership, charm and trade skill lines. I would consider it a waste of time to also try to focus on steward, scouting or medicine when you can pay someone who is already really good at them to do it.

Each to their own I guess. Sorry, I don't know of any mods that allow you to piggyback your companions learning.
