Over time, they subjugated their neighbours, forcing them into a confederation of city-states. Perhaps they were slightly fiercer than the others, or just lucky, or perhaps it was the one tradition that set them apart - the Calradoi had no kings. Ever since the hero Echerion slew the tyrant Cypegos, the institution of the monarchy was banned, in theory at least. There was an assembly of free citizens that met occasionally, a senate of elders (in practice the largest landowners) that sat permanently, and - when it was absolutely necessary - supreme command could be invested for a short time in the person of an emperor, a title that back then meant little more than the right to lead an army.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/45

Man this people are talking about Mongols and the kukulus clan and ****, yo'all are forgetting the real question we must all ask this developers... Will it be true to the manga?

Cool Blog.

Wish someone would just call the Byzantines Roman's already. They're Roman's, just the eastern, Greek-majority divison.

The Eastern Roman Empire lasted so long after the fall & dispersal of the Western Roman Empire that referring to it as its own entity is hardly a misnomer. True they called themselves Romans, but they rarely held onto the City of Rome for long - so calling them the Byzantine Empire is less problematic than calling them the Roman Empire because of that. At least that's what I think.

Also: all hail the True Empress of Calradia. Long live the People's Choice! Long Live Empress Rhagaea! Emperor Arenicos will be avenged, and we will lay low the usurpers who tarnish his legacy. For the Empire!

Right, got that out of my system.

Anyways, they have referred once again to a means by which players may seize ultimate control - this time through gaining the "purple" mantle of the Calradic Empire. Do you think one means is for males to ally and then marry either the Empress Rhagaea or the Princess Ira? I have no idea how old Princess Ira is, but she was at least a minor when her mother assumed control but could have grown before the start of the game itself. Princess Ira could be a very interesting character given her "wild and irreverent streak."

Honestly, the Empire is going to be my most anticipated faction. No doubt my first save will be Imperial focused, exploring Calradia with an Imperialistic idea. I've no doubt would want to follow the dream of Arenicos. I do wonder, if claimants are still a thing, if the claimant for any of the Imperial factions will be the man/woman Arenicos wanted for the throne. Perhaps Garios is that man. Perhaps we need to become that man. I also wonder how the questline will progress around the Empire, and what impacts it will have. One of my biggest dreams has always been to see a great, heavily armored competent shield wall of Greco-Roman design in an M&B installment. It seems I'll be able to have just that.

Of course we all know the Empire fails lorewise, but it'd still be great to play a 'what-if' scenario. :p Great blog! I'm always interested in the lore and history of Calradia.

Will we get a video next week instead of you guys going to PC Gamer Weekender. I know next week is about the empire btw as you stated. Just wandering if you still will give us a video. Been too long since we seen anything new besides just boring pictures and gifs

If I were to guess, main storyline would be very heavily connected to struggle for power and reuniting Empire.

struggle yes
reuniting only no. Story would need to give you the option to join another faction and help destroy/fight the Empire as well, taking advantage of the civil war.

So finally this is the Empire!
It turns out to be as exciting as we wished for.
I'm also thrilled that the "varangian" guard is almost confirmed. We 'll see in the next blog but my guess is that they hold the "banner" in Bannerlord .

As of the cataphracts :

1) They were the supreme heavy cavalry ever, both equipped and trained and disciplined also . The dream of every commander
    in battle.
The western knights were much to them only in times of decline. Their superb horses breed were property of the Emperor
placed in the anatolian plateau, at some time over the 11th century lost to the empire. Not every horse could be up to the
task. I don't think that norman knights ever met with proper "catafracti" in the battlefield : they were gone a century ago.

2) They certainly charged but in order unlike in many cases of western knights ruining battles by their unorganised charges.
If they had to go slow to best disrupt the enemy lines they did so . Probably they couched lance if needed . There is the
distinction in the "Tactica" of LeoVI between heavy and lite cavalry for some reason apparently.

3) the main problem with them was that they were obviously too resource consuming and had a training that was also very
much time consuming. You couldn't decide one day to have them and expect them ready after a week, even if you had the
      money to afford them.

That's all for now greetings to all Carlandians !!!

I hope you are right, there must be a different choice for players that don't want to fight for the Empire.

Yes, indeed. Kinda like Viking Conquest, where you could either join Anglo-Saxon kingdoms or fight under the banner of Bjorn Ironside within Great Heaten Army.

Anyways, it's just storyline, you probably just play it once and after that, sandbox seems more natural choice.

I like the empire the most as of now. The equipment seems the most exciting about them. I want to see them shieldwalls : )

I have a suggestion i hope you listen to why dont you add some events in the game like appearing of some mongols from the east not easy stopable
And the second one that the sarranids dont have taverns in their country

I think these questions are related to Warband not Bannerlord but I will answer anyways.
There is a Khergit Khanate in the game(the purple kingdom) they are influenced by Mongols.
Now I dont understand your second question but I assume you are questioning why there are taverns in Sarranid cities ?
If that was the question I say from what I know taverns existed in islamic empires.
I mean I know Ottomans had plenty of them(there are a lot of historical taverns in Istanbul) and as far as I know other previous ones also had taverns.
