Just wanted to honor this mod and, as the title says:

BRYTENWALDA: great Mod, Team and ....Leader!

Me and Idibil just exchanged and add our own Mods sigs......like old warriors would do with their blood, to show their brotherhood and friendship!!!

EDIT: I just dwlded and played the very last version....and .... mamma mia!!!!! That s not a mod anymore....IT IS A BRAND NEW GAME!!!!!!!!!!!

I must download the new version this weekend. Probably overnight so I can sleep while it takes 5 hours  But this Brytenwalda is really one of the best mods out there folks.

Yep. Worth the long download. Idbil and his mates have delivered another masterpiece. Even better and more stable than previous versions and loaded with neat stuff.

There are alternative DLs in place for 1.36 as well, so the long DLs from the repository shouldn't get in anyone's way of playing that awesome mod anymore...

That said, if you want to start out in BW, best bring a lot of free time, and some tolerance for frustration - the mod has an overwhelming number of options and possibilities, many of which only open up to their full potential with a powerful mid-game character, and getting off the ground takes a while, and with a bit of bad luck, you can come crashing down hard at any moment...

The whole "import an old character" advice is one really to be heeded - provided you have one floating around, of course.
I currently don't, and it's keeping me from diving really into the mod, well that and the fact that for maximum atmosphere (one of the mod's strong points), it really needs graphics maxed out, which doesn't bode well for the framerate on my 3-year-old laptop... ;/

I know what you mean. My last character took a real long time to get established. I was constantly getting my butt kicked by Dena. When I had 120 men and lost to 50 Dena I complained to Idibil haha!

For this version I forgot to import and started from scratch but I confess I have cheated and ramped up my character from the get-go. Even doing that I was still limited to 30 men despite having a mail suit for level 14 and...I still got my a** handed to me by a large party of Franks. But I still love the mod and it is a gem but yeah beau hard to play and get established in (even if you cheat at first).

I told my wife about this last thing of Poom and stuff and I admitted I play so little lately (my son complains as well, more and more... )....so she asked:
"Why are you guys doing all this then??"

BW just pushes the game to its limits, and makes the inherent limitations really noticeable... and its focus on realism also clashes with the general M&B purpose of eventually ruling the world/map, as well as the more general idea of an "open" or "sandbox" game - for most of your playtime in BW, you'll in fact be severely limited in what you can do, and overcomign these restrictions usually happens by breaking immersion and playing against the game.
Take those 50 Franks or Dena, for example - they'll be a tough challenge for any army, unless that army is nothing but the player on horseback with a pointy stick, and lots of patience for an hour or more of repetitive kiting.

Not the team's fault, they've done the best they could, but it unfortunately still means that playing BW can be very tedious and frustrating at times, and when you don't have that much time to begin with, that's a high price to pay for those times when it's totally awesome.

Yet my understanding is people have succeeded at Brytenwalda. If I only had time I might attempt it but modding and other things distract and by the time I turn around Idibil and company have a new release.

Success is definitely possible, it just takes a lot of time, and the willingness to spend at least part of that time on what to me are not enjoyable actitivities.

I had a fairly strong 1.32 character that I had patiently groomed over many hours, however, I deleted that one because foolishly, I thought I'd want a fresh start with 1.34, so starting out and not getting very far due to lack of time/determination to grind is all I've been doing in BW lately... :/
