2015-6 Brytenwalda Reworked pulling together the best features of BW submods +

Users who are viewing this thread

No that's not intended. Something is breaking when you load the game and it falls back to Native values.
I'll have to take a look and see what's in patch B
I'll start with the Standalone and see if that's the source.
I'm working on a patch right now.

Alrighty.  As fun/silly as it is to basically play roulette with character creation (and get a horse and crossbow from most options)...

New Patch C fixes a number of things I'll enumerate later here in this post.
http://www.nexusmods.com/mbwarband/mods/5994/?

@SenorOcho.
I couldn't replicate your error; something failed to load or you're missing 1 file.
Why don't you redownload the Standalone, start it up and see if things are BW normal.
Then copy over the patch C text files.
Patches A and B are unneeded.

I'm not a modder, but this is what I'm seeing in menus.txt.  Fresh out of the standalone package on the nexus.  In the Patch B.  In the Patch C as well.

Is Brytenwalda Reworked supposed to get its character creation data from somewhere else?  Because this looks the same as the file in Native.

Edit: Made edits to the file, said edits are showing up in-game.

I see what you're talking about.

Yes, BW does keep the same character creation menu as Native but alters a few things.
Not all the listings you see in scripts and menus are actually used in Brytenwalda.
For example, BW changes the skills, health, experience, renown, attributes and items you get for different backgrounds.

If you have a version that does it much better, I'd be interested in checking it out.
I focus more on functionality and realism over gui's and presentations.
If have more people on the project, the focus could broaden.

That's.. strange.  Where is BW supposed to be pulling that data from that's breaking, then?

Went digging through the basic BW 1.41 patch files and I see what you mean, I'm just loathe to redownload that huge thing again if there's something that might be narrowed down.

Edit:  Redownloaded the v24 standalone anyway... same behavior.  I just don't know.

Edit2:  nabbed the Repolished 1.05 off the steam workshop to make sure I'm not just completely screwy here, and that's working properly.  If it's not a problem with the standalone, then must be something wrong with the nexus or my version of 7zip or something.  Avast isn't showing any activity that it's been blocking anything, at least...

The problem I was having is that the BW character creation screen with the sliders wasn't loading, and it was going through the vanilla menus instead.
As far as I could tell, the game was working fine after creation (though was locked into Jute starting locations), though I didn't do more than a couple in-game days of running around, recruiting a few guys, fighting a battle, etc.  Had one debug code message in the message log during that time, but no error spam (was just "Debug Code: 50" or something like that).

Yes, I do recall the sliders but I forgot where I can go to find them again.
Was that in Brytenwalda 1.41? Did you see it when you tested it?
I ask about 1.41 because Brytenwalda Repolished has no source code.
(I haven't brought the text files over from my old computer yet).
If the sliders are in there, I can probably bring them back.
Menus is about 50,000 lines of code that's only 80% used.
It's like RNA. A slight change of a reference can cause the mechanism to fail to use the new genes.

Lord Golias started to rework the game start and may have better insight into what happened to the sliders.
He removed the 4 other start positions only temporarily.
Do you have any other start game requests?
I personally would like to see the crossbows removed.

I didn't download the full vanilla BW to give it a shot, unfortunately, just the patch to see if its menu text was the same.  Presumably the sliders are in there, though, since it's using the same Native character creation text in its menus.txt.

I have no actual requests.  Was just wanting to play BW again and thought this was the up to date version.

100 steps forward sometimes causes a slip of 1 step.
I'll check out the slider issue and report back.
I'll happily dig around for them if they existed.
I'm always making lists of improvements that are accessible.
The slider request would be a huge project if it's not ready-made.

Senorocho, you're right, the entire slider screen has been removed in Presentations and game_menus.
If you want to find where it went, search in the module system for "player_background" and "Character Background".
I tracked it back to version 23 when Lord Golias reorganized the entire module system.
He may have left it out by accident; I'll have to ask what he was doing and left most of his changes out of respect.
I haven't heard from him in 3 weeks.
I will fix this by next weekend even if he doesn't reply.

The slider omission is not needed. Any games without it are savegame compatible.
I will post another update on Sunday that will be savegame compatible.

Great, looking forward to it.

Found some possible bugs:
I get a "DEBUG Fief Penalty at 7" on the world map in the message window, is this intended?
The character text for Inka seems to be mixed with Clovis?
Also, when I distribute skill points some skills only get a red 0 with the first point and need an additional point to get up to 1. Seems strange.
The settlement of Winteringasham sold an item which looked like pottery, with the name "ritemslot2"
When i tried to speak with the mine chef in the salinae near Genouhalh he asked "Surrender or die" and my character responded "Whoa this must be a debug".
Is it intended that Agility is not used for a single skill? Even Riding is Charisma.

Hello. U have done great work but ould you gdwitt update mod installation instructions, please? It is confusing, because there is instructions to installa old updates.

I have been enjoying Brytenwalda Reworked; it is almost perfect. However since I installed Patch C on my game, I have been experiencing trouble with companion dialogue. I am using the standalone version with patch B, D and C, extracted in that order. It is possible that there was a problem before patch C, the companions had no complaints.
Cinoid, a half- naked man called my character handsome https://forums.taleworlds.com/Smileys/phpbb/contrib_fruity.gif and  was infatuated with my poor (male) character, one woman referred to herself as a Greek man; etc. Connor Mac Odrhain tells me some weird thing about Lords every time I talk to him, and companions that dislike other companions tell me they like and dislike the same person (dislike dialogue for player is used), one companion appeared and told me 'Dyn Bych' and I said 'That's good'. The companions are unsure of genders also, Frioc was referred to as a she despite having a moustache, and it is impossible to manage your party when the companions don't make any sense. A dialogue error message also seems to appear erraticaly. Is anyone else experiencing something similar or is something wrong on my end?https://forums.taleworlds.com/Smileys/phpbb/icon_redface.gif
The negative penalty for 'recent events' in the morale reports tab, rises every day, regardless of what I do. I am fighting a reasonable amount, not losing battles or travelling through night, paying my men, etc. The bonus for resting also appears not to cap, and so I have +720 morale from resting and  -745 from ' recent events'. Is anyone else experiencing something similar again?
Finally, sorry for the long and possibly stupid post,  finally there is an error message that appears every time I enter a tavern about 'tavern consequences' and 'invalid troop ID'. Is anyone else experiencing this? I will post the error messages I have tomorrow if they will be helpful.
Sorry for the long-winded post and thanks for all the great work. For now my demented companions and I shall go back to worrying about our continued sanity...

Great testing.
It helps more if I have the exact error message or exact goofed up dialog.
Then I can locate it directly as there are many similar sounding messages.
The strings for the characters are off by one.
Are you using the 100 companions submod? That might do that.
Otherwise, I'll have to study what happened.
I did add a string in the version 24.
Are you using a savegame from a prior version?
GDW

Thanks for the quick response, I am not using the 100 companion submod or Warband Script Enhancer. I am not  using a new save slot and I will post the dialogue and error messages when I get a chance, I will try to debug it further on a new game. Oh, and apologises for not knowing how to use smiley faces on my last post..
