13th century Russia and steppe city sieges

I'm working on some new siege maps for a mod. I've trying to research both Russian (modern area + Ukraine) and Steppe peoples' cities, but I'm having a hard time finding any solid information on historically accurate images/maps/recreations of any of them.

I can find information on Kiev, such as http://www.encyclopediaofukraine.com/display.asp?linkpath=pages%5CK%5CY%5CKyivanRushDA.htm, but Kiev is historically prominent/affluent among the Slavic cities, so is it's depictions typical or atypical of similar cities?

Now for steppe people it's even harder, other then a recreation of Sarai Batu of the Golden horde (http://www.amusingplanet.com/2016/07/sarai-batu-reconstructed-13th-century.html) I can't find much information on what cities occupied/built by Mongol/Turkic tribes resembled. Mostly interested in the Golden Hordes' settlements.

How big are cities compared to say western Europe? What building materials are defences/buildings made out of? Any information on relevant cities of the time period would be appreciated.
