Today we want to introduce you to a very important role in every development team. Every time a game designer thinks of a cool feature or an animator creates a beautiful movement, there’s someone who has to find a way to make it happen and implement everything in the actual game. You are right, we are talking about the programmers, those code magicians that turn designers’ wishes into reality – and then fix all the issues that usually follow every change: a video game is a very complex system, and changing even the smallest thing can create unexpected problems!

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/40

At the expense of the placement of weapons - I do not know whether they said it or not, but obviously on the horse it is possible to make an additional place for weapons for use by the rider.

oooh... That'd be cool. Imagine a horse archer with 4 extra quivers on his horse.

As for the matter of weapons on the back- I can't be objective here- as I grew up on Grzegorz Rosinski's Thorgal image- and keeping in mind it's probably not historicaly accurate and not comfortable or even phisically posible to draw- It's just cool looking

Back scabbards being cool looking is completely subjective. The fact the I know it's impossible to unsheathe a longsword from the back makes it seem fake and therefore silly. I'm sure others have the same issue.

In a previous post I mentioned greatswords should be dropped if switching weapons because it's impossible to unsheathe one even on the belt (they're basically metal polearms). Consequently, anyone who chose to use one had to carry it in their hands at all times. (or give it to a servant to carry) And I think that would be an interesting drawback for such a huge and effective weapon, same with halberds, pikes and lances. (I also think lances should break after a while) Just to clarify in case anyone's confused, greatswords are MUCH bigger than longswords so this shouldn't apply to regular weapons.

It is possible, though, that Taleworlds will completely ignore these aspects due to the time frame of the game. Greatswords, halberds etc... were not prevalent in the early middle ages, which means they may not add them at all (they won't add plate armor for example which really destroys any reason to use two handed weapons at all). Since two handers are meant to be rare in Bannerlord, I doubt back scabbards will actually be an issue 99% of the time.

I remember them saying that 2 handed swords will be mainly used for lords/ companions ("hero" units) too but there is a gameplay vid that shows common Battanian archer units with 2 handed swords as a secondary weapons on their backs.

Maybe Battanians are just a heroic, badass faction

Those weren’t basic archers but a special kind (they had a name that was unique) I imagine they are some sort of Battanian king’s guard style unit.

That reminds me,

Will these minor factions that Taleworlds have shown us be playable in Multiplayer?

Comrades game developers! In the Russian forum, two people offered a very interesting idea. Even two ideas. I want to tell you these ideas - maybe you will be interested.

1. The first is to make the game possible to raise an uprising and overthrow the ruler if this ruler is not popular.

2. Second - if you managed to overthrow the ruler, then this overthrown ruler becomes a pretender to the throne and tries to take his kingdom back.

Small addition to previous post: I think it would be nice if the uprising could be raised not only by the pretenders, but also by the lords of the faction.

is it better to be loved, or feared?

the game would need to have a mechanic to keep the political balance around those concepts, with influences for each lord personality, world events, current status of the kingdom, etc. With sub-groups acting as political parties and with plots building up as things go wrong (plus a counter mechanism like having spies, assassination, bribing, etc)

but that is getting too close to CK2 (which would be amazing, but I wonder how many people would want a complex/complicate system, considering they are used to the very simple one from Warband).

fighting wars and tournaments is the fun job for a king. Handling court life is the boring day to day that breaks or makes the stability of the kingdom.

You could always let these details be handled by a confident from the court, kind of like the minister in Warband, but if you want to get in all these intrigues by yourself, it would be a nice feature after all.

I don't think it is aproblem since people who don't want the diplomacy of running a kingdom won't try to become king. Or else they'll lionheart it. I do believe however that the kingdom should be a able to run itself at a base level a la mariokart smart steering But diplomacy ad politics should give the player the ability to improve their position significantly.

I'm really eager to see how deep and how well presented at the surface level will be these influence systems. Warband had many good and deep systems that were totally overlooked by most players because of bad presentation.

Perhaps along with the love/fear concept there could be an influence mechanic for lower classes and nobility respectively. Failure to influence the lower classes will result in peasant revolts, and failure to to please the nobility will result in influential nobles and their allies attempting to depose the king.

Curious how the character's stats will look in the end. Hope the devs will not totally replace renown and reputation with the influence. I imagine that with this new "currency" those factors could be influential with how many influence points one has to spent on some political bargain or how many will one receive for compleating a certain quest.

Maybe some brief descrieption of character creation and/or insight on the various characters stats/traist and whatever's new would be a nice them for one of next blogs?
