.Zip File Opener

Just had to open a .zip file and discovered the WinZip trial version on my computer had run out of Evaluation time. I do not wish to spend money to get a file opener, so does anybody know any safe, free file openers?

Yeah, that too.

WinRAR and WinZip are naggers and bloated. 7-Zip does pretty much everything. WinACE for the one in a hundred times when it doesn't.

7-Zip is probably the best well known unarchiving program out there.  If you want something more, get Universal Extractor but it can only unarchive.

I think I've almost always used WinRar. I may have used 7-zip once or twice, but that's it. WinRar isn't technically free, but you download it for free (a "free trial") and while it does ask for money ("your free trial has expired, pay up to keep using WinRar") after a certain amount of time has passed, it won't stop you using it. You don't have to give it a cent, no matter how much it asks.

Agreed, but somehow I've just gotten so used to Winrar's little message popping up every time I use it that it long ago stopped annoying me.

Switch to 7-Zip. As stated, it's smaller and quicker and doesn't nag. Don't let inertia win!

Why would anyone want to use a shareware gui for a free program?
