There are some Mycenaean pottery fragments that very much appear to show some kind of twigs sticking out of the tops of helmets. It's impossible to say exactly what they're supposed to represent, but I'd say that's as good a reconstruction as any.

Probably not. Good thing Rome II isn't anything like SITD, and SITD isn't anything like Rome II, so there's no issue of redundancy. I'm sure a lot of us will be enjoying Rome 2.
