SP - General Village Militia

The village militia is supposed to protect the village and it's villagers. Why militia don't accompany villagers when they go out cities for trading? Protect them against bandit attacks?

Some villagers themselves could have better equipment and skills. When you have a bigger party of peasants, then you could have troops specialized to protect them (militia).
Another concept would be groups of village militia with the purpose of hunting bandits (this would make sense specially when too many bandits exist in certain areas, simulating the fact that the villagers had enough and are taking measures for themselves). I'm not certain about the behavior of bandits in pursuing villagers and raiding but in my eyes that should be their main goal.
