In 390 BC, an army of Gauls led by Brennus attacked Rome, capturing all of the city except for the Capitoline Hill, which was successfully held against them. Brennus besieged the hill, and finally the Romans asked to ransom their city. Brennus demanded 1,000 pounds (327 kg) of gold and the Romans agreed to his terms. Livy, in Ab Urbe Condita (Book 5 Sections 34–49), recorded that the Gauls provided steelyard balances and weights which were used to measure the amount of gold. The Romans brought the gold, but claimed that the provided weights were fixed. The Romans complained to Brennus about the issue. Brennus took his sword, threw it on to the weights, and exclaimed, "Vae victis!" The Romans were forced to bring more gold to fulfill their obligation as they then had to counterbalance the sword as well.

Hello and welcome to the Vae Victis Shieldbattle thread! Originally, our event was an event that occurred every sunday on Bello Civili but overtime people have requested for us to also expand our event into Rome at War, which we have done several times before I have made this topic. It is to be noted that we have not abandoned our Bello Civili side of the event. What we have done to compromise the use of both mods is to use one mod one sunday, and the other mod the next sunday (Ex. Bello Civili this sunday, RaW next Sunday, BC the week after that). Another thing is since RaW is drastically different from BC, different rules will have to be implemented to maintain balance. See the rules section of this thread for the rules regarding this event and keep in mind they are different from the BC event rules. If you have any questions about the event that my thread does not cover, contact AMythUnchained on steam.

No delaying, if there are 3 or less people alive on their team, they are required to avoid stalling the round.
No team wounding, only the officers may be allowed to do so to their own troops in a form of disciplinary action.
No ramboing, if you try to engage enemies with less then 3 people, you will be slayed. Merge with a friendly line if you have less then 3 men.
No double-shielding, if you try to equip more then one shield, you will be slayed. Instead, drop your damaged shield and pick up another shield.
For every 5 men you bring, 1 of them can be an elite class. The rest must be a non-elite class (Excluding the Leader). For more info on this, check the Gear section of the thread.
Leaders must select the Captain class, or any equivalent to it, unless they are chosen to be the general of the team (Which can only be one person on the entire team).
Adhere to the Gear section of the thread, as it will contain important info on prohibited gear and certain requirements regarding units.
Archers/Slingers are allowed, the amount allowed is determined by the amount of people in the event.
Cavalry is only allowed if the event has a total of 60 or more players.

This portion of the thread explains the prohibited gear for certain classes for the factions, for reasons regarding balance. Another purpose for this section is to point out the elite classes of the factions, classes that are not listed are considered non-elite. It is split into sections named after the cultures, so that they are identifiable with multiple factions. On another note, the money count for the event is 1550.
