While managing troops you can set any of your troops or companions to specific formations, i.e. 1: Infantry, 2: Ranged, 3: Cavalry etc.
My companions need custom formation settings because none are frontline infantry, and I also like setting some or all my archers as Skirmishers while keeping my more stationary crossbowmen as Ranged, and on a side note: Vlandian Levy Crossbowmen as well as Mercenary Crossbowmen default to Infantry formation, so I always set them to Ranged.
However anytime I load a save these custom formation settings are reset to default formation, or I would imagine the custom formation settings aren't saved in the first place. Regardless I have to manually set all my custom formations again every time I load a save, which is incredibly tedious.
