I realize this is in game, but it's often handy to be able to look at while not playing in order to plan the building of your main character or companions (though I have only seen a few companions gain trait points - ex Francois).  I've listed the traits first by how they're listed ingame first and then by category like how they're listed by the devs in their game manual.

InGame list:
Born Leader - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, +3 to maximum company size
Hotshot - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, +3 accuracy
Journeyman gunner - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, +3% solid/chain damage, +2% graphshot damage
Peddler - 3 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, -10% harbor taxes/mooring fees, -10% manufacture upkeep
Quick Blade - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, +3 attack speed
Sergeant - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, -5% xp for troops to level
Ship boy - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, +3%, +3% sailing speed on map, +3% combat speed, -3% adverse wind combat penalty
Stableman - 2 trait points, lvl 1, no req's, +3 to speed and maneuverability, +1 to charge
Blacksmith - 2 trait points, lvl 3, Trade 2 & Eng 2 & STR 9, Damaged weapons/armor are repaired overtime
Chef - 2 trait points, lvl 3, INT 9, +50% morale bonus from food
Farrier - 2 trait points,  lvl 3, Herb 2 & AGI 9, Wounded horses nursed to health, +10 hp to any horse ridden by player
Fencer - 2 trait points, lvl 3, 1H/2h/Polearms 80 & Wep Mast 2, +1 to piercing damage
Firefighter - 2 trait points, lvl 3, Seafar 2 & Eng 2 & N. Combat 1, +30% fire extinguishing speed
Hammerstrike - 2 trait points, lvl 3, 1H/2h/Polearms 80 & Pow Strike 2, +1 to blunt damage
Horse tamer - 2 trait points, lvl 3, Riding 1 & INT 9, horse req's are lowered by 1
Sutler - 2 trait points, lvl 3, Looting 2, The amount of money, food, and commodities found after combat is doubled
Tailor - 2 trait points, lvl 3, Trade 1 & Eng 1 & AGI 9, Damaged clothing is repaired overtime
Commander - 2 trait points, lvl 6, Seafar 2 & & N. Combat 2, Fleetmater req's lowered by 1
