Getting killed became a hundred times easier with the addition of a wide array of weapons that can kill from a distance. Not to mention the fact that being sandwiched in between two pike formations (which is sometimes the case if you were the one leading the formation) leads to certain death.

Hmmm, I guess you're right... but who would be stupid enough to charge and get smashed in between two pike formations? No offence.

Try leading a pikeman formation and you'll see

If you don't have a standard bearer you have to rally units around yourself ... And that's how it starts

Just for you all to know, haelmarian pikes are classified as standard bearers.

So you don't need to lead a pike square yourself
