horses wont just run into people aswell
 
yeah it's lopsided on both sides. Only elite heavy cavalry is suitable for a head-on charge, in which case it would cause enourmous damage. Light cavalry shouldn't even be charging infantry in formation, but if it did, the damage on both sides would be a lot worse. Basically combat is fantasy and trying to balance it would be a total nightmare, it lacks too many mechanics to make it realistic, and it would take too much work to insert these mechanics.
 
I hope to see the spectacular scene of a large cavalry charge defeating the infantry. Of course, I also hope to see the Macedonian pike phalanx's resistance to cavalry.
 
Horses usually don't charge head on shield walls, formations should have an option to brace. When charging single soldier in loose formation they should do more charge damage I think
