Switching control between companions

I would like to be able to control my companions in battle, temporarily, making my main caracter an npc like the others. This would help us optimize them and it would be fun too.

That is a truly novel idea!

It could also help you see the battle through by allowing you the option to continue the
battle as one of your companions if your character gets knocked out!

Great idea!

They are in your team anyway...

No, you only play, as long as they are still alive. Sorry, didn't understand at first.

Maybe this could be done by switching characters in the party screen, puting borcha in nº 1 place for example.

I agree
You should play with your character, not any warrior you like. You choose it in the beginning, so stick with it through the rest of the game.

Still, it undermines the importance of the player's own character, the decisions you make on how to specialise them, etc. if you can technically have one of your companions a horse archer, another a berserker, a knight, and also an archer. Also, what would happen with commands now? Would everyone follow your companion's orders?

Not that I think it's a bad idea, just not quite in line with how I view the experience of playing the game ought to be. Were it a feature that switched the player's control to his closest companion should the player get knocked out in a battle, or an option to lead as one of your companions in the game if your character is unable to fight, then that might be a different matter.

I'm not completely sure what the OP is suggesting.

Are you suggesting that we should be able to change which character we enter the battle as? For example, moving Marnid to the top of the party list would have you spawn as Marnid when entering battle?

Or are you suggesting that when your character is knocked unconscious in battle, you should be able to control one of your Hero NPCs instead of restarting the battle?

Or are you proposing both?

I think this is an excellent idea as long as you can only switch control when your character is unable to fight (knocked unconscious). It's very frustrating when you're in the middle of battle, get taken out by a stray arrow, and have to restart the battle from the beginning again. By allowing the player to take control of a companion after being knocked out, we get rid of the several "rounds" of battle that happen when the armies are reset to the spawn point and charge other. Instead, we end up fighting one battle to resolve one battle.

As for realism, the companions could be viewed as lieutenants who serve to take command when the main leader of the party is unable to in battle. Also, the two forces would remain engaged in battle rather than being reset to the spawn point and charging each other again.

Additionally, with this "alternate character" system in, I would welcome a death/injury system to keep players from becoming incautious with their characters.

It started as this

Then Jericho sugested this

While the OP's idea isn't a bad one. I like this idea better though.

And this idea is EXCELLENT.

The idea is very RPG suited. In Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic this feature is included and is great, you can swap between party members and use their different skills to suit the mood. Obviously in M&B you would only be able to play as heroes and not as normal men.

No. No. No. No.
I like pretending (and as it often happens) that with me unconscious and them lacking my tacticianary super skillz, the battle goes to pot.
It'd cheapen the feel to just feel like you're controlling an unimportant body rather than "you".

My first reaction to reading the opening post was. "NONONONONO! I HATE THAT IDEA!" Then I read a reply about getting to play a hero, only once your get knocked unconscious. I then thought, "YESYESYESYESYESYES! That idea is good!"

this is a brilliant idea....i love it..its unfair if u see it carefully..u can kill enemy vassal but they didnt lose at all...i always trying to be hero..try to kill them by my own hands..well guess what..i died getting couched lance....And WE LOSE...and THATS Not FAIR..
so i think this is a good suggestion....

nope. the way i see it the whole idea of m&b is playing a character which leads a bunch of men in the conquest of calradia. i think a major part of that experience is constantly being the same guy so that even if you play in 3rd person you keep a certain level of immersion. if you begin to trivilise your character's importance you would lose a lot of that and the game would become a lot less

I like the idea of switching to another hero much like KoToR did, in place of just ending a battle your side was winning in just because your knocked out. I mean, why not just make the battle end then when an ENEMY lord falls? Doesn't make much sense does it?

I would like to combine that idea with a permanent death system. If you die you switch to another member of your followers.
So you play not a single character but a family or clan or something like that.
This would allow the Player to die several times without cancel the whole game by one defeat

epic idea mna! I love it!

Thanks ihope it´s possible in a mod?

the stuff is from total war where you play a Dynasty faction with marriage and childs who "coming of age" and join your team then. But I fear it would take too much time playing one setting 16 ingame-
years.
