Some general things to watch out for that may prolong your character's life - new suggestions posted regularly.
Swords are far superior to bayonets - you can outfight 3-5 bayonet armed troops if you carry a saber.
Soldiers in green are sharpshooters that can kill you in one hit even at 1/4 damage, and if you play with full damage, can easily take you down from long range in a single hit. Killing the enemies in green is always top priority.
If you command infantry, you'll have a big advantage if you use the bridge - just order your men to hold position at the ramp, and then to follow you. It will save you 30 seconds to 1 minute, which can be very important positioning time in infantry vs. infantry fights.
