with warband being pushed back to 2010, there will be more time to improve the animations.

will they ever make it so the various body parts are attached to the model?

for example could the aventail of the helmet be attacked to the player's body and morph as the player twists his head rather than stay rigid?

could the leg be actually attached at the knee? right now upper and lower leg is separated making it difficult to animate the lower body, or the nether regions.
 
Making the player model in different parts doesn't make rigging any more difficult. You can still rig them as one and the skeleton is always in one piece, it's not separated, so the animating process is the same.
I don't see what the problem is.

Besides, if they made everything in one model, they had to make one model for each combination of armor.
 
from what armagan said there will be the possibility to rig helmets, but i didn't understood if they will use it for native models or only for mods
