I can't remember if you ever played MP or not, but I suspect that's because Empire is just one faction there and a bunch of the aesthetic and balance considerations from MP seeped over into SP.

Exactly, I definitely never accidently shot my own bucellarii.
My dudes, I can't understand why so much fighting about it, it's that easy to differentiate. Especially when most elite troops use reflective metal plates all over their body and only some small piece of cloth at the elbows and knees show their colour. I can't understand how you have difficulty with those factions.
Try upping your graphics, perhaps. Stop playing with peasant pcs.
Or try buying a new gaming chair, it makes all the difference. Trust me.
