So i am playing Darth mod NTW again as the UK, this time with a total slaughter version which supposedly made france a little OP against the other AIs which  i thought it was a good change, considering last time i play France got pwned by Prussia and i was like, yeah, campaign over...

Well NOW its a little different. Playing Hard Campaign Very Hard Battles with 40 units per army.

Seriously France captured 4 russian cities in one turn, i was like what the ****. And i cant help since only now i got to 4 stacks. And i gotta use those in Spain first. I tried helping Prussia hold Berlin with 1 stack and i actually did win a major battle there and destroyed 1 french stack, but next turn 2 more appeared and besiged Berlin directly, i jumped on my ship nearby asap....

Normally i woudnt rush Spain but since things are pretty freaking horrible im going towards Madrid asap so i can free my 5 stacks (1 extra just disembarked), 20.000 men. At least i dont have to worry about ships anymore since every single french, dane (norway is mine though) and spanish ports are blockaded. Now im in some agressive trade ship building so i can hold more armies, got me from making only 5k when i lost trade with Prussia and Austria cause France captured all their ports to now 20k per turn. Also at least Austria was smart enough to peace with France, so at least the balkans wont be french....

Why did they stop making this kind of games!?
They milked the franchise too much in a fairly short time span:

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines (CBEL) was released on July 1, 1998. Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty, a set of new Commandos missions issued as a standalone game, was released on March 31, 1999. Commandos 2: Men of Courage, a full sequel, released in 2001 Commandos 3: Destination Berlin was released in October 2003 - which isn't too bad. But there were also the following games: Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive came out in 2001 and Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood in 2002. Despite being from a different studio than the Commandos series, they looked very similar and game play was almost identical.

So we have six near-identical games coming out between 1998 and 2003. It works for the sports games and the brainless shooters because their audiences are counted in the tens of millions but it doesn't really work for any other genre, where the audience is limited.

Battle of Britain - 15.10.1940

No. 46 Squadron - B flight
Mission: Patrol over Eastern Dover

Led by yellow one, (A) F/L William Grey B flight of No. 46 sought the skies. Red leader, P/O Charles Remlinger had to quickly land again after noticing his rudder being unresponsive, a problem quickly fixed according to ground mechanics after which he took off and rejoined the formation. After about 15 to 20 minutes of uneventful patrols at Angels 22 over Eastern Dover's coast ground control sent No. 46's B flight to intercept a section of Bf 109's passing through the cloud cover over Dover harbour. This proved to be a false contact.

While returning to patrol altitude P/O Charles Remlinger spotted a flight of Bf 110's passing over them at Angels 25 to 27, which ground control had failed to communicate to No. 46's B flight. The Bf 110's passed overhead and engaged per section, attacking red section, who engaged the heavy fighters succesfully. The lead section of Bf 110's attacked yellow section head-on but yellow section avoided the attack and turned around to engage the heavy fighters from behind.

No. 46's B flight managed to take down two of the heavy fighters and claim one as destroyed at the loss of two Hurricanes and pilots, one per section. When B flight pulled out of combat they encountered a flight on Bf 109's and attacked from above, but did not succeed in taking down any of the fighters and were ambushed by a third section of Bf 109's. In the resulting engagement two more Hurricanes were heavily damaged, both (A) F/L William Grey's Hurricane and P/O Charles Remlinger's plane. Both made it back to England and bailed out.

The remaining two pilots, veteran P/O Henryk Adamczyk and fresh Sgt. Michael Finn, who achieved a single airkill, safely landed.
-------

Heavy casualties were inflicted on both sides of the engagement, although today No. 46 Squadron received the worst end of it, losing four planes and claiming three.

(A) F/L William Grey (yours truly) shot down one Bf 110 today, raising his total tally to five kills. As such he has become the Squadron's first ace.

Yes, my No.3 wingman had his gear out when we were under attack for dark and mysterious reasons.

I guess that could be it! An oversaturation of the genre could have lead the downfall of those games, I do recall an FPS in the Commandos franchise aswell, it wasn't very well received that didn't help as well.

Continuing my NTW campaign....

Peninsular War was very succesful with Madrid captured very quickly, and all major battles against spanish stacks were won without any units getting destroyed (had to fight 4 spanish full stacks). Now with Spain only holding Navarra, peace was agreed and Catalonia liberated, they are to act as a buffer so that France doesnt think of invading Iberia...

But the french keep advancing in the Eastern front and mMscow was quickly besieged, trade has been stopped with Russia as they dont have any trading ports by now.

Hearing the news, Wellington is ordered to transfer all of his army corps but one and do an amphibious invasion of the Crimea to support the Russians.

The landing was unopposed and all corps will advance.

The plan is to reach Smolensk and join up with the Russians near the Baltic while holding up the Crimea for more reinforcements.

Too late, Moscow has fallen, and the plan is changed for 1 Corps to try to liberate it.

Initial advance runs very succesfully with all french units surrendering before a fight.

Though only initally, as it seems France mustered all available forces in Ukraine to fight in Crimea so to trap the other british forces near Kiev and the one heading towards Moscow... The battle of Odessa begins, and the fate of the british forces rests upon it.
